    On Coordinating Personalized Web Services using COOPS

    This paper presents CooPS, which is a method for Coordinating Personalized Services. These services are primarily offered to mobile users. Very little has been done so far regarding first, personalizing Web services for the benefit of mobile users and second, providing the methodological support to designers who specify the operations of personalization. Various obstacles still exist such as lack of techniques for modeling and specifying the integration of personalization into Web services, and existing approaches for Web services composition typically facilitate orchestration only, while neglecting contextual information on users and Web services

    Smart e-trader: A prototype information management system for UAE stock markets

    This paper presents a new online smart trading approach for investors in UAE stock markets. Smart trader is a web-based information management system that provides investors with real time stock market information and personalized stock recommendations. A study was conducted to assess the needs for such system in UAE markets and found a strong demand for it among investors. A new system architecture is also proposed, called smart e- trader, to accommodate investors\u27 new needs and preferences. A prototype system of smart trader has been implemented to evaluate the usefulness and effectiveness of the new approach. The findings of this research suggests that deploying a smart online stock trading applications in UAE markets would help investors make an informative investment decisions as well as assist them manage their stock trading transactions

    Visual Attention toward Human Face Recognizing for Autism Spectrum Disorder and Normal Developing Children: An Eye Tracking Study

The paper discusses an eye tracking analysis study to let us understand the visual behavior and pattern of Normal Developing children and Autistic children while viewing human face stimulus. An eye tracking experiment consists of displaying different images with human face embedded in different locations (left, center and right) and the eye tracker captured and tracked the child\u27s eye gaze movements, then analyzed to identify where specifically in the stimulus is the child looking at. The finding indicates a significant difference was found between the two groups viewing patterns and behavior when they presented with a scene that have human face. The study also reveals that large percentage of Autistic participants expressed minimum interest and time looking at face area, evident by significant time spent fixations on non-face regions, comparing to the normal developing children. The results can be used to improve the life style of other children who have a risk to develop Autism as well as discover earlier signs of ASD

    Effect of pulsed magnetic field pre-treatment of AISI 52100 steel on the coefficient of sliding friction and wear in pin-on-disk tests

    Disc specimens manufactured from commercial bearing rollers (AISI 52100 steel, 62–63 HRC) in initial state and after pre-treatment by pulsed magnetic field (PMF) with a magnetic field strength of 1–7 MA/m were tested with sunflower oil using pin-on-disk apparatus. According to the obtained results the treatment causes a reduction in the coefficient of friction and wear. To explain the results, nano- and microhardness tests as well as optical and atomic force microscopy were used. Reasons of the effect of PMF on the friction and wear were discussed.Peer reviewe

    Boundary layer flow of nanofluid over an exponentially stretching surface

    The steady boundary layer flow of nanofluid over an exponential stretching surface is investigated analytically. The transport equations include the effects of Brownian motion parameter and thermophoresis parameter. The highly nonlinear coupled partial differential equations are simplified with the help of suitable similarity transformations. The reduced equations are then solved analytically with the help of homotopy analysis method (HAM). The convergence of HAM solutions are obtained by plotting h-curve. The expressions for velocity, temperature and nanoparticle volume fraction are computed for some values of the parameters namely, suction injection parameter α, Lewis number Le, the Brownian motion parameter Nb and thermophoresis parameter Nt

    Characteristics of maxillofacial injuries resulting from road traffic accidents – a 5 year review of the case records from Department of Maxillofacial Surgery in Katowice, Poland

    BACKGROUND: In spite of employing numerous devices improving the safety in motor vehicles, traffic accidents are still among the main reasons of maxillofacial injuries. The maxillofacial injuries remain the serious clinical problem because of the specificity of this anatomical region. The knowledge of etiologic factors and mechanisms of injuries can be helpful in a satisfactory trauma prevention. The aim of this study was to find out the incidence and the pattern of maxillofacial injuries resulting from traffic accidents in the patients treated in the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery (Silesian Medical Academy in Katowice, Poland) from January 2001 to December 2005. METHODS: The material consisted of 1024 case records of patients with maxillofacial injuries treated in the Maxillofacial Surgery Department of Silesian Medical Academy. The detailed analysis was carried out on the case records of 198 patients in the age of 3 to 68 with maxillofacial injuries resulting from traffic accidents. On the basis of data from a history, examination on admission, consultations and radiological examinations, patients' age and gender, we obtained the information on a pattern of injury and detailed description of an accident (the date and the time of an accident, the role of the patient in an accident). RESULTS: The traffic accidents were the cause of 19,93% maxillofacial injuries in the analyzed period of time. Most of the patients had injuries to the soft tissues of the face (22,21%), followed by tooth and alveolar process injuries (20,71%) and mandibular fractures (18,69%). All the types of injuries were more common in men than in women. The majority of the patients were car drivers followed by car passengers, pedestrians, cyclists and motor cyclists. The peak age of the patients was between 18 to 25 years. The prevalent number of accidents resulting in injuries to this region took place in spring, especially between noon and 4 PM. CONCLUSION: Our results exhibit that road traffic accidents remain among the main reasons of maxillofacial injuries following the traumas resulting from assaults and interpersonal violence. This succession of etiologic factors is in accordance with the data from the most developed countries. The relatively high incidence of injuries resulting from traffic accidents indicates the necessity to reinforce legislation aimed to prevent road traffic crashes and thus to reduce maxillofacial injuries among children and adults

    Observation of direct-photon collective flow in sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV Au+Au collisions

    The second Fourier component v_2 of the azimuthal anisotropy with respect to the reaction plane was measured for direct photons at midrapidity and transverse momentum (p_T) of 1--13 GeV/c in Au+Au collisions at sqr(s_NN)=200 GeV. Previous measurements of this quantity for hadrons with p_T < 6 GeV/c indicate that the medium behaves like a nearly perfect fluid, while for p_T > 6 GeV/c a reduced anisotropy is interpreted in terms of a path-length dependence for parton energy loss. In this measurement with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider we find that for p_T > 4 GeV/c the anisotropy for direct photons is consistent with zero, as expected if the dominant source of direct photons is initial hard scattering. However, in the p_T < 4 GeV/c region dominated by thermal photons, we find a substantial direct photon v_2 comparable to that of hadrons, whereas model calculations for thermal photons in this kinematic region significantly underpredict the observed v_2.Comment: 384 authors, 6 pages, 3 figures, and 1 table.     Azimuthal anisotropy of pi^0 and eta mesons in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV

    The azimuthal anisotropy coefficients v_2 and v_4 of pi^0 and eta mesons are measured in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV, as a function of transverse momentum p_T (1-14 GeV/c) and centrality. The extracted v_2 coefficients are found to be consistent between the two meson species over the measured p_T range. The ratio of v_4/v_2^2 for pi^0 mesons is found to be independent of p_T for 1-9 GeV/c, implying a lack of sensitivity of the ratio to the change of underlying physics with p_T. Furthermore, the ratio of v_4/v_2^2 is systematically larger in central collisions, which may reflect the combined effects of fluctuations in the initial collision geometry and finite viscosity in the evolving medium.Comment: 384 authors, 71 institutions, 11 pages, 9 figures, and 2 tables.
