Remembrance Archives
The article proposes a reflection on the design role and a speculative project about the topic of temporality in the digital city. The
notion of socio-technical system (Whitworth 2009) is used to show how in a society characterized by high technological density the
city model could approach the one of a factory (Armando & Durbiano 2019). In a socio-technical system the capillarity of the
interactions between men and machines is central in beating the rhythm of the subjects’ behaviors acting its space. Furthermore
in the contemporary landscape the analytics systems producing predictions introduce an additional temporal layer (Hansen 2015)
used as a filter to read and design these behaviors (Pentland 2019) and the city planning. Artificial intelligences, synthesizing the
data harvested, produce precognition simulating behaviors in the digital in order to anticipate them in the analogical. It is claimed
that within these temporal loops only an incremental optimization is possible and that to design exclusively through this filter could
cause a folding of time that would lead the city to live in a temporal bubble, whereas the city lives on many different temporal lines
contributing to the imagination and to the collective memory (Gregotti 1966). Therefore design has to address this challenge
bringing the question of the memory at the project's center (Zannoni 2018). A speculative project called Remembrance Archives is
proposed. Remembrance Archives aims to hack the temporal bubble by the injection of data drawn from the past of the city history
that will alter the regular output of the artificial intelligence predictive models in unexpected ways, practicing an actual work of
remembrance through which people will interact with the city memories as a source of new meanings and imaginar
Territory, sustainability and design : From traceability to the upgrade of production waste
Design is the discipline capable of interpreting technical,
economic, social and cultural transformations, coming into
close contact with the concrete dimension of the territorial context and acting on the processes of competitive
enhancement of single companies and of local business
systems.
Starting from these premises and with the purpose
of allowing the territory to absorb values such as sustainability, identity and brand recognition strategies, the envisioned change — beyond the project level — is cultural.
Two research projects dedicated to the integration
of good practices for sustainability in the territorial context
of Veneto demonstrate how a virtuous circle can be implemented starting from the concept of dedicated tracking
systems for companies up to the design for a sustainable
management of waste. This positive process consists of
new relationships and active exchanges of skills, bringing
to light those already existing. In this way, the profound
meaning of belonging to a cultural identity is integrated into
the planned development of companie

The implementation and use of the "5s" and Kaizen program for the management of sewing offices of a middle family company
A century that defined the price of its product was the company. Today, in the 21st century, who defines the price is the market. That is why one of the managers' roles today is to look after maintenance and seek continuous improvements in order to reduce costs so that profits are maintained or raised. This article deals precisely with this, through the statistics applied to performance and quality indicators. Before starting the kaizen process, this article discusses the implementation of 5S in the target company of the case study in order to organize and standardize the processes. After 5S, the kaizen was implanted and data were collected that were treated statistically. It was concluded that the system was confirmed by the statistical results after the treatment and analysis of the data, and that the main purpose of these two tools, 5S and Kaizen, is to improve competitiveness and why not say, Have more assurance of the company's sustainability
Compressed sensing in fluorescence microscopy.
Compressed sensing (CS) is a signal processing approach that solves ill-posed inverse problems, from under-sampled data with respect to the Nyquist criterium. CS exploits sparsity constraints based on the knowledge of prior information, relative to the structure of the object in the spatial or other domains. It is commonly used in image and video compression as well as in scientific and medical applications, including computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. In the field of fluorescence microscopy, it has been demonstrated to be valuable for fast and high-resolution imaging, from single-molecule localization, super-resolution to light-sheet microscopy. Furthermore, CS has found remarkable applications in the field of mesoscopic imaging, facilitating the study of small animals' organs and entire organisms. This review article illustrates the working principles of CS, its implementations in optical imaging and discusses several relevant uses of CS in the field of fluorescence imaging from super-resolution microscopy to mesoscopy
Early and Sustained Elevation in Serum Pancreatic Amylase Activity: A Novel Predictor of Morbidity After Pancreatic Surgery
Objective:To characterize early postoperative serum pancreatic amylase (spAMY) trends after pancreatic resections. Summary Background Data:A postoperative spAMY elevation is a common finding but uncertainties remain about its meaning and prognostic implications. Methods:Analysis of patients who consecutively underwent pancreatectomy from 2016 to 2019. spAMY activity was assessed from postoperative day (POD) 0 to 3. Different patterns of spAMY have been identified based on the spAMY standard range (10-52 U/l). Results:Three patterns were identified: (#1) spAMY values always < the lower limit of normal/within the reference range /a single increase in spAMY > upper limit of normal at any POD; (#2) Sustained increase in spAMY activity on POD 0 + 1; (#3) Sustained increase in spAMY activity including POD 1 + 2. Shifting through spAMY patterns was associated with increase morbidity (21% in #1 to 68% in #3 at POD 7; log rank < 0.001). Almost all severe complications (at least Clavien-Dindo >= 3) occurred in patients with pattern #3 (15% vs 3% vs 5% in #1 and #2 at POD 7, P = 0.006), without difference considering >3-times or >the spAMY normal limit (P = 0.85). POPF (9% in #1 vs 48% in #3, P < 0.001) progressively increased across patterns. Pre-operative diabetes (OR 0.19), neoadjuvant therapy (OR 0.22), pancreatic texture (OR 8.8), duct size (OR 0.78), and final histology (OR 2.2) were independent predictors of pattern #3. Conclusions:A sustained increase in spAMY activity including POD 1 + 2 (#3) represents an early postoperative predictor of overall and severe early morbidity. An early and dynamic evaluation of spAMY could crucially impact the subsequent clinical course with relevant prognostic implications

Solvent-dependent termination, size and stability in polyynes synthesis by laser ablation in liquids
In recent years there has been a growing interest in sp-carbon chains as
possible novel nanostructures. An example of sp-carbon chains are the so-called
polyynes, characterized by the alternation of single and triple bonds that can
be synthesized by pulsed laser ablation in liquid (PLAL) of a graphite target.
In this work, by exploiting different solvents in the PLAL process, e.g. water,
acetonitrile, methanol, ethanol, and isopropanol, we systematically investigate
the solvent role in polyyne formation and stability. The presence of methyland
cyano-groups in the solutions influences the termination of polyynes, allowing
to detect, in addition to hydrogen-capped polyynes up to HC22H, methyl-capped
polyynes up to 18 carbon atoms (i.e. HCnCH3) and cyanopolyynes up to HC12CN.
The assignment of each species was done by UV-Vis spectroscopy and supported by
density functional theory simulations of vibronic spectra. In addition,
surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy allowed to observe differences, due to
different terminations (hydrogen, methyl-and cyano group), in the shape and
positions of the characteristic Raman bands of the size-selected polyynes. The
evolution in time of each polyyne has been investigated evaluating the
chromatographic peak area, and the effect of size, terminations and solvents on
polyynes stability has been individuated.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures. Supporting Information of this article is

Time-resolved optical spectrometer based on a monolithic array of high-precision TDCs and SPADs
We present a compact time-resolved spectrometer suitable for optical spectroscopy from 400 nm to 1 μm wavelengths. The detector consists of a monolithic array of 16 high-precision Time-to-Digital Converters (TDC) and Single-Photon Avalanche Diodes (SPAD). The instrument has 10 ps resolution and reaches 70 ps (FWHM) timing precision over a 160 ns full-scale range with a Differential Non-Linearity (DNL) better than 1.5 % LSB. The core of the spectrometer is the application-specific integrated chip composed of 16 pixels with 250 μm pitch, containing a 20 μm diameter SPAD and an independent TDC each, fabricated in a 0.35 μm CMOS technology. In front of this array a monochromator is used to focus different wavelengths into different pixels. The spectrometer has been used for fluorescence lifetime spectroscopy: 5 nm spectral resolution over an 80 nm bandwidth is achieved. Lifetime spectroscopy of Nile blue is demonstrated
