Time-delay control for stabilization of the Shapovalov mid-size firm model
Control and stabilization of irregular and unstable behavior of dynamic systems (including chaotic processes) are interdisciplinary problems of interest to a variety of scientific fields and applications. Using the control methods allows improvements in forecasting the dynamics of unstable economic processes and offers opportunities for governments, central banks, and other policy makers to modify the behaviour of the economic system to achieve its best performance. One effective method for control of chaos and computation of unstable periodic orbits (UPOs) is the unstable delay feedback control (UDFC) approach, suggested by K. Pyragas. This paper proposes the application of the Pyragas’ method within framework of economic models. We consider this method through the example of the Shapovalov model, by describing the dynamics of a mid-size firm. The results demonstrate that suppressing chaos is capable in the Shapovalov model, using the UDFC method
Classical and quantum pumping in closed systems
Pumping of charge (Q) in a closed ring geometry is not quantized even in the
strict adiabatic limit. The deviation form exact quantization can be related to
the Thouless conductance. We use Kubo formalism as a starting point for the
calculation of both the dissipative and the adiabatic contributions to Q. As an
application we bring examples for classical dissipative pumping, classical
adiabatic pumping, and in particular we make an explicit calculation for
quantum pumping in case of the simplest pumping device, which is a 3 site
lattice model.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures. The long published version is cond-mat/0307619.

Event-by-event fluctuations in collective quantities
We discuss an event-by-event fluctuation analysis of particle production in
heavy ion collisions. We compare different approaches to the evaluation of the
event-by-event dynamical fluctuations in quantities defined on groups of
particles, such quantities as mean transverse momentum, transverse momentum
spectra slope, strength of anisotropic flow, etc.. The direct computation of
the dynamical fluctuations and the sub-event method are discussed in more
detail. We also show how the fluctuation in different variables can be related
to each other.Comment: LaTex, 14 pages and 5 figures. 2 references adde
Molecular dynamics study of melting of a bcc metal-vanadium II : thermodynamic melting
We present molecular dynamics simulations of the thermodynamic melting
transition of a bcc metal, vanadium using the Finnis-Sinclair potential. We
studied the structural, transport and energetic properties of slabs made of 27
atomic layers with a free surface. We investigated premelting phenomena at the
low-index surfaces of vanadium; V(111), V(001), and V(011), finding that as the
temperature increases, the V(111) surface disorders first, then the V(100)
surface, while the V(110) surface remains stable up to the melting temperature.
Also, as the temperature increases, the disorder spreads from the surface layer
into the bulk, establishing a thin quasiliquid film in the surface region. We
conclude that the hierarchy of premelting phenomena is inversely proportional
to the surface atomic density, being most pronounced for the V(111) surface
which has the lowest surface density
Chaos in a double driven dissipative nonlinear oscillator
We propose an anharmonic oscillator driven by two periodic forces of
different frequencies as a new time-dependent model for investigating quantum
dissipative chaos. Our analysis is done in the frame of statistical ensemble of
quantum trajectories in quantum state diffusion approach. Quantum dynamical
manifestation of chaotic behavior, including the emergence of chaos, properties
of strange attractors, and quantum entanglement are studied by numerical
simulation of ensemble averaged Wigner function and von Neumann entropy.Comment: 9 pages, 18 figure
Shadowing in photo-production : role of in-medium hadrons
We study the effects of in-medium hadronic properties on shadowing in
photon-nucleus interactions in Glauber model as well as in the multiple
scattering approach. A reasonable agreement with the experimental data is
obtained in a scenario of downward spectral shift of the hadrons. Shadowing is
found to be insensitive to the broadening of the spectral functions. An impact
parameter dependent analysis of shadowing might shed more light on the role of
in-medium properties of hadrons.Comment: Title modified; version to appear in PRC, Rapid Communication
A Phenomenological Analysis of Heavy Hadron Lifetimes
A phenomenological analysis of lifetimes of bottom and charmed hadrons within
the framework of the heavy quark expansion is performed. The baryon matrix
element is evaluated using the bag model and the nonrelativistic quark model.
We find that bottom-baryon lifetimes follow the pattern
.
However, neither the lifetime ratio nor the
absolute decay rates of the baryon and mesons can be explained.
One way of solving both difficulties is to allow the presence of linear
corrections by scaling the inclusive nonleptonic width with the fifth power of
the hadron mass rather than the heavy quark mass . The hierarchy
of bottom baryon lifetimes is dramatically modified to
: The
longest-lived among bottom baryons in the OPE prescription now
becomes shortest-lived. The replacement of by in nonleptonic
widths is natural and justified in the PQCD-based factorization approach
formulated in terms of hadron-level kinematics. For inclusive charmed baryon
decays, we argue that since the heavy quark expansion does not converge, local
duality cannot be tested in this case. We show that while the ansatz of
substituting the heavy quark mass by the hadron mass provides a much better
description of the charmed-baryon lifetime {\it ratios}, it appears unnatural
and unpredictive for describing the {\it absolute} inclusive decay rates of
charmed baryons, contrary to the bottom case.Comment: 35 pages, to appear in Phys. Rev. The CDF result on the lifetime

Study of KS KL Coupled Decays and KL -Be Interactions with the CMD-2 Detector at VEPP-2M Collider
The integrated luminosity about 4000 inverse nanobarn of around phi meson
mass ( 5 millions of phi mesons) has been collected with the CMD-2 detector at
the VEPP-2M collider. A latest analysis of the KS KL coupled decays based on 30
% of available data is presented in this paper.
The KS KL pairs from phi meson decays were reconstructed in the drift chamber
when both kaons decayed into two charged particles. From a sample of 1423
coupled decays a selection of candidates to the CP violating KL into pi+ pi-
decay was performed. CP violating decays were not identified because of the
domination of events with a KL regenerating at the Be beam pipe into KS and a
background from KL semileptonic decays.
The regeneration cross section of 110 MeV/c KL mesons was found to be 53 +-
17 mb in agreement with theoretical expectations. The angular distribution of
KS mesons after regeneration and the total cross section of KL for Be have been
measured.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figure
