    The key role of organizational culture in a multi-system view of technology-driven change.

    Organizations undergoing technology-driven change must understand that technology is only one of several inter-related components which drive organizational performance. A multi-system perspective of organizations highlights the interdependencies between an organization's technology, structure and culture and how these affect organizational processes and behaviors. Successful technological innovations require that either the technology be designed to fit the organization's current structure and culture or that the organizational structure and culture be reshaped to fit the demands of the new technology. Thus, the desired effects of new technology are most often realized in organizations able to implement the additional changes that are required to maintain overall fit. To illustrate these issues, this paper presents a case study based on a technology-driven change in a Turkish financial organization.     Evaluation of a two-phase extraction system of carbohydrates and proteins from chlorella vulgaris utex 1803

    Microalgae are a valuable source of high-value products and biofuels, however the high-energy cost required for the extraction of their metabolites has kept questioning on possible industrial upgrading. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of temperature, solvent/biomass, NaOH concentration and thermal pretreatment of the biomass in a 2-cycle carbohydrate and protein extraction system. Results shown that best conditions for carbohydrates extraction are achieved at a solvent concentration of 3.67 M, 55°C and a solvent/biomass ratio of 30mL/g. On the other side, the best conditions for protein were 3 M, 85°C and 45 mL/g. The efficiencies achieved under these conditions were 95% for carbohydrates and 98% for proteins. Using the best extraction conditions for each metabolite a thermal pre-treatment was performed at 25°C, 75°C and 105°C. Results indicate that highest efficiencies were achieved with dry biomass pretreated at 105°C, with values of 95% for carbohydrates and 98% for proteins

    Organizational culture as a determinant of technology assimilation

    From higher to lower levels of abstraction, an organization can be seen as a more or less rational entity trying to achieve certain objectives by securing and employing certain resources strategically, as a complex system enacting specific processes and enabling certain patterns of individual and group behavior, or as a set of individuals working around certain (implicit or explicit) operating rules and utilizing certain technology. For an organization to successfully achieve its objectives, it must be able to deploy the right kind of processes and behaviors by carefully aligning its technology, its organizational structure and the values and beliefs of its people (which is usually referred to as "organizational culture"). Successful technological innovations require that either the technology be designed to fit the organization's current structure and culture or that the organizational structure and culture be reshaped to fit the needs of the new technology. Only if the organization is able to undertake the additional changes that are required to maintain overall fit will the new technology reach the desired effects. Otherwise, the investment could be worthless. To illustrate these issues, the paper presents a case study based on a technology-driven change in a Turkish financial organization

    Large falcine meningioma fed by callosomarginal branch successfully removed following contralateral interhemispheric approach

    We report the case of a highly vascular facline meningioma removed following surgical ligation of a large callosomarginal feeding branch via a contralateral interhemispheric approach. Successfully addressing this vessel via a contralateral interhemispheric approach prior to any debulking allowed for en bloc Simpson Grade 1 tumor removal with minimal blood loss and short term tumor control without evidence of recurrence at 2 year follow up. A 56 year old man presented with first time generalized tonic-clonic seizure. Imaging revealed a right sided 5 cm falcine meningioma. The patient underwent pre-operative embolization of feeding branches, however, the most significant supply, arising from the right callosomarginal artery, could not be occluded. A bipartite frontotemporal craniotomy was performed. From a left sided interhemispheric approach the pericallosal and callosomarginal arteries were identified and the large callosomarginal tumor feeding branch were occluded using a straight Yasargil aneurysm clip. From the right the superior sagital sinus was ligated anteriorly and posteriorly. The sinus, falx, and adherent tumor were then removed en bloc. We present the case of a highly vascular falcine meningioma with a large callosomarginal feeding branch which was successfully occluded using surgical clipping of this vessel via a contralateral interhemispheric approach. This case provides an excellent example of one approach to directly dealing with large, deep interhemispheric feeding vessels unsuitable for embolization.     Advanced oxidation processes with Uv-H2O2 for nitrification and decolorization of dyehouse wastewater

    In this work, a UV/H2O2 system was evaluated using an experimental design 2 level I-optimal response surface design to analyze the effect of temperature, pH, UV lamp power (W), and H2O2 concentration on dye load removal and nitrification from industrial cleaning wastewater. Results showed that the optimum conditions were 80 °C, pH 4, PW-UV 60 W, and H2O2 3.1 Mol*L-1. Removal percentages of 45% for COD, 47.5% color, 87% Fe, 82% Cr and 91% ammonium oxidation to nitrate were achieved. It can be concluded that the effluents treated by this process could be promising for reuse and exploitation in biotechnological tools through microalgae and cyanobacteria
