Microbial-environmental interactions reveal the evaluation of fermentation time on the nutrient properties of soybean meal

    Get PDF
Microbial fermentation techniques are often used to improve their quality, where the keys are fermentation strains and fermentation time. This study studied the interaction between microbiota and environmental (or nutritional) factors and microbiota at different fermentation times to determine the most appropriate time, using lactic acid bacteria as fermentation strains. It can be concluded that fermentation improved the nutritional value of soybean meals. In the early stages of fermentation, debris in soybean meal highly proliferated and destabilized the microbial community, while pH and nutritional conditions played an important role in helping its stabilization. In addition, we must pay attention to the interspecific interactions of microorganisms, which makes it easy to understand how the microbial community maintains community stability. A 4-day fermentation of soybean meal with Lactobacillus is recommended

Bladder cancer is the most common malignancy of the urinary system. Efforts to identify innovative and effective therapies for bladder cancer are urgently needed. Recent studies have identified the BRD4 protein as the critical factor in regulation of cell proliferation and apoptosis in bladder cancer, and it shows promising potential for pharmacologic treatment against bladder cancer. In this study, we have evaluated the biological function of QCA570, a novel BET degrader, on multiple bladder cancer cells and explore its underlying mechanisms. QCA570 potently induces degradation of BRD4 protein at nanomolar concentrations, with a DC50 of ∼ 1 nM. It decreases EZH2 and c-MYC levels by transcriptional suppression and protein degradation. Moreover, the degrader significantly induces cell apoptosis and cycle arrest and shows antiproliferation activity against bladder cancer cells. These findings support the potential efficacy of QCA570 on bladder cancer

The Overseeing Mother: Revisiting the Frontal-Pose Lady in the Wu Family Shrines in Second Century China

Located in present-day Jiaxiang in Shandong province, the Wu family shrines built during the second century in the Eastern Han dynasty (25–220) were among the best-known works in Chinese art history. Although for centuries scholars have exhaustively studied the pictorial programs, the frontal-pose female image situated on the second floor of the central pavilion carved at the rear wall of the shrines has remained a question. Beginning with the woman’s eyes, this article demonstrates that the image is more than a generic portrait (“hard motif ”), but rather represents “feminine overseeing from above” (“soft motif ”). This synthetic motif combines three different earlier motifs – the frontal-pose hostess enjoying entertainment, the elevated spectator, and the Queen Mother of the West. By creatively fusing the three motifs into one unity, the Jiaxiang artists lent to the frontal-pose lady a unique power: she not only dominated the center of the composition, but also, like a divine being, commanded a unified view of the surroundings on the lofty building, hence echoing the political reality of the empress mother’s “overseeing the court” in the second century during Eastern Han dynasty

Multivalued Logic for Reduced Pin Count and Multi-Site SoC Testing

Abstract-With the reduced-pin-count test (RPCT) being adopted for multi-core systems-on-chip (SoCs) that usually support test compression as well, test speed is reduced due to the narrower input bandwidth. In this work, we propose an idea to combine multi-valued logic (MVL) test application with RPCT technology, which increases the data rate of test channels to avoid compromising test speed for the interface. The hardware modifications for the tester and device under test (DUT) are proposed with the corresponding test flow. Simulation result shows that the test speed is increased by four times with 4-bit MVL test channel. An actual ATE experiment verifies that only 61,757 cycles are used to complete a RPCT with MVL test application, compared to 247,020 cycles for an RPCT only scenario

Highly Damping and Self‐Healable Ionic Elastomer from Dynamic Phase Separation of Sticky Fluorinated Polymers

Shock-induced low-frequency vibration damage is extremely harmful to bionic soft robots and machines that may incur the malfunction of fragile electronic elements. However, current skin-like self-healable ionic elastomers as the artificial sensing and protecting layer still lack the ability to dampen vibrations, due to their almost opposite design for molecular frictions to material's elasticity. Inspired by the two-phase structure of adipose tissue (the natural damping skin layer), here, a highly damping ionic elastomer with energy-dissipating nanophases embedded in an elastic matrix is introduced, which is formed by polymerization-induced dynamic phase separation of sticky fluorinated copolymers in the presence of lithium salts. Such a supramolecular design decouples the elastic and damping functions into two distinct phases, and thus reconciles a few intriguing properties including ionic conductivity, high stretchability, softness, strain-stiffening, elastic recovery, room-temperature self-healability, recyclability, and most importantly, record-high damping capacity at the human motion frequency range (loss factor tan δ > 1 at 0.1–50 Hz). This study opens the door for the artificial syntheses of high-performance damping ionic skins with robust sensing and protective applications in soft electronics and robotics

Conductance-stable liquid metal sheath-core microfibers for stretchy smart fabrics and self-powered sensing

Highly conductive and stretchy fibers are crucial components for smart fabrics and wearable electronics. However, most of the existing fiber conductors are strain sensitive with deteriorated conductance upon stretching, and thus, a compromised strategy via introducing merely geometric distortion of conductive path is often used for stable conductance. Here, we report a coaxial wet-spinning process for continuously fabricating intrinsically stretchable, highly conductive yet conductance-stable, liquid metal sheath-core microfibers. The microfiber can be stretched up to 1170%, and upon fully activating the conductive path, a very high conductivity of 4.35 × 104 S/m and resistance change of only 4% at 200% strain are realized, arising from both stretch-induced channel opening and stretching out of tortuous serpentine conductive path of the percolating liquid metal network. Moreover, the microfibers can be easily woven into an everyday glove or fabric, acting as excellent joule heaters, electrothermochromic displays, and self-powered wearable sensors to monitor human activities

Mechanoadaptive morphing gel electrolyte enables flexible and fast-charging Zn-ion batteries with outstanding dendrite suppression performance

The safe, flexible, and environment-friendly Zn-ion batteries have aroused great interests nowadays. Nevertheless, flagrant Zn dendrite uncontrollably grows in liquid electrolytes due to insufficient surface protection, which severely impedes the future applications of Zn-ion batteries especially at high current densities. Gel electrolytes are emerging to tackle this issue, yet the required high modulus for inhibiting dendrite growth as well as concurrent poor interfacial contact with roughened Zn electrodes are not easily reconcilable to regulate the fragile Zn/Zn2+ interface. Here we demonstrate, such a conflict may be defeated by using a mechanoadaptive cellulose nanofibril-based morphing gel electrolyte (MorphGE), which synergizes bulk compliance for optimizing interfacial contact as well as high modulus for suppressing dendrite formation. Moreover, by anchoring desolvated Zn2+ on cellulose nanofibrils, the side reactions which induce dendrite formation are also significantly reduced. As a result, the MorphGE-based symmetrical Zn-ion battery demonstrated outstanding stability for more than 100 h at the high current density of 10 mA·cm−2 and areal capacity of 10 mA·h·cm−2, and the corresponding Zn-ion battery delivered a prominent specific capacity of 100 mA·h·g−1 for more than 500 cycles at 20 C. The present example of engineering the mechanoadaptivity of gel electrolytes will shed light on a new pathway for designing highly safe and flexible energy storage devices
