The Takagi problem on the disk and bidisk
We give a new proof on the disk that a Pick problem can be solved by a
rational function that is unimodular on the unit circle and for which the
number of poles inside the disk is no more than the number of non-positive
eigenvalues of the Pick matrix. We use this method to find rational solutions
to Pick problems on the bidisk

Variable frequency microwave (VFM) processing facilities and application in processing thermoplastic matrix composites
Microwave processing of materials is a relatively new technology advancement alternative that provides new approaches for enhancing material properties as well as economic advantages through energy savings and accelerated product development. Factors that hinder the use of microwaves in materials processing are declining, so that prospect for the development of this technology seem to be very promising. The two mechanisms of orientation polarisation and interfacial space charge polarisation, together with dc conductivity, form the basis of high frequency heating. Clearly, advantages in utilising microwave technologies for processing materials include penetration radiation, controlled electric field distribution and selective and volumetric heating. However, the most commonly used facilities for microwave processing materials are of fixed frequency, e.g. 2.45 GHz. This paper presents a state-of-the-art review of microwave technologies, processing methods and industrial applications, using variable frequency microwave (VFM) facilities. This is a new alternative for microwave processing

Cost Effective Capture of multiple IQ streams for Phase Arrays
This paper introduces a new and affordable method of realising 10 IQ Software Defined receivers, and how to synchronise them. We first discuss the need for multiple IQ and the available techniques. We then introduce the RTL-SDR and Matlab as a very low cost prototype implementation of 10 IQ streams. This leads to the design and manufacture of a PCB to distribute a single clock to multiple RTL-SDRs. The required modifications to the RTL-SDRs to receive the distributed clock and other modifications to improve the overall performance are presented. We then describe how to attain raw IQ data and synchronise the receivers. Finally, we prove all 10 can maintain a phase lock over a frame of 7 seconds
Effectiveness of group-based self-management education for individuals with Type 2 diabetes:A systematic review with meta-analyses and meta-regression
Aims:
Patient education for the management of Type 2 diabetes can be delivered in various forms, with the goal of promoting and supporting positive self-management behaviours. This systematic review aimed to determine the effectiveness of group-based interventions compared with individual interventions or usual care for improving clinical, lifestyle and psychosocial outcomes in people with Type 2 diabetes.
Methods:
Six electronic databases were searched. Group-based education programmes for adults with Type 2 diabetes that measured glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) and followed participants for ≥ 6 months were included. The primary outcome was HbA1c, and secondary outcomes included fasting blood glucose, weight, body mass index, waist circumference, blood pressure, blood lipid profiles, diabetes knowledge and self-efficacy.
Results:
Fifty-three publications describing 47 studies were included (n = 8533 participants). Greater reductions in HbA1c occurred in group-based education compared with controls at 6–10 months [n = 30 studies; mean difference (MD) = 3 mmol/mol (0.3%); 95% confidence interval (CI): −0.48, −0.15; P = 0.0002], 12–14 months [n = 27 studies; MD = 4 mmol/mol (0.3%); 95% CI: −0.49, −0.17; P < 0.0001], 18 months [n = 3 studies; MD = 8 mmol/mol (0.7%); 95% CI: −1.26, −0.18; P = 0.009] and 36–48 months [n = 5 studies; MD = 10 mmol/mol (0.9%); 95% CI: −1.52, −0.34; P = 0.002], but not at 24 months. Outcomes also favoured group-based education for fasting blood glucose, body weight, waist circumference, triglyceride levels and diabetes knowledge, but not at all time points. Interventions facilitated by a single discipline, multidisciplinary teams or health professionals with peer supporters resulted in improved outcomes in HbA1c when compared with peer-led interventions.
Conclusions:
Group-based education interventions are more effective than usual care, waiting list control and individual education at improving clinical, lifestyle and psychosocial outcomes in people with Type 2 diabetes. No Full Tex
Isostaticity in two dimensional pile of rigid disks
We study the static structure of piles made of polydisperse disks in the
rigid limit with and without friction using molecular dynamic simulations for
various elasticities of the disks and pile preparation procedures. The
coordination numbers are calculated to examine the isostaticity of the pile
structure. For the frictionless pile, it is demonstrated that the coordination
number converges to 4 in the rigid limit, which implies that the structure of
rigid disk pile is isostatic. On the other hand, for the frictional case with
the infinite friction constant, the coordination number depends on the
preparation procedure of the pile, but we find that the structure becomes very
close to isostatic with the coordination number close to 3 in the rigid limit
when the pile is formed through the process that tends to make a pile of random
configuration.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures, Submitted to J. Phys. Soc. Jp
A new design for the CERN-Fr\'ejus neutrino Super Beam
We present an optimization of the hadron focusing system for a low-energy
high-intensity conventional neutrino beam (Super-Beam) proposed on the basis of
the HP-SPL at CERN with a beam power of 4 MW and an energy of 4.5 GeV. The far
detector would be a 440 kton Water Cherenkov detector (MEMPHYS) located at a
baseline of 130 km in the Fr\'ejus site. The neutrino fluxes simulation relies
on a new GEANT4 based simulation coupled with an optimization algorithm based
on the maximization of the sensitivity limit on the mixing angle.
A new configuration adopting a multiple horn system with solid targets is
proposed which improves the sensitivity to and the CP violating

Incidence of surgical site infection following mastectomy with and without immediate reconstruction using private insurer claims data
OBJECTIVE: The National Healthcare Safety Network classifies breast operations as clean procedures with an expected 1–2% surgical site infection (SSI) incidence. We assessed differences in SSI incidence following mastectomy with and without immediate reconstruction in a large, geographically diverse population. DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. PATIENTS: Commercially-insured women aged 18–64 years with ICD-9-CM procedure or CPT-4 codes for mastectomy from 1/1/2004–12/31/2011. METHODS: Incident SSIs within 180 days after surgery were identified by ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes. The incidence of SSI after mastectomy +/− immediate reconstruction was compared by the chi-square test. RESULTS: From 2004–2011, 18,696 mastectomy procedures among 18,085 women were identified, with immediate reconstruction in 10,836 (58%) procedures. The 180-day incidence of SSI following mastectomy with or without reconstruction was 8.1% (1,520/18,696). Forty-nine percent of SSIs were identified within 30 days post-mastectomy, 24.5% between 31–60 days, 10.5% between 61–90 days, and 15.7% between 91–180 days. The incidence of SSI was 5.0% (395/7,860) after mastectomy-only, 10.3% (848/8,217) after mastectomy plus implant, 10.7% (207/1,942) after mastectomy plus flap, and 10.3% (70/677) after mastectomy plus flap and implant (p<0.001). The SSI risk was higher after bilateral compared with unilateral mastectomy with (11.4% vs. 9.4%, p=0.001) and without (6.1% vs. 4.7%, p=0.021) immediate reconstruction. CONCLUSIONS: SSI incidence was two-fold higher after mastectomy with immediate reconstruction than after mastectomy alone. Only 49% of SSIs were coded within 30 days after operation. Our results suggest stratification by procedure type will facilitate comparison of SSI rates after breast operations between facilities
