Boundary conditions and Berry phase in magnetic nanostructures

    Get PDF
The effect of micromagnetic boundary conditions on the Berry curvature and topological Hall effect in granular nanostructures is investi- gated by model calculations. Both free surfaces and grain boundaries between interacting particles or grains affect the spin structure. The Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions yield corrections to the Erdmann-Weierstrass boundary conditions, but the Berry curvature remains an exclusive functional of the local spin structure, which greatly simplifies the treatment of nanostructures. An explicit example is a model nanostructure with cylindrical symmetry whose spin structure is described by Bessel function and which yields a mean-field-type Hall-effect contribution that can be related to magnetic-force-microscopy images

Design of Ripple Free Single Phase Isolated Converter using DC Active Filter with Centre Tap Transformer

    Get PDF
A ripple current reduction method is proposed that does not require additional switching devices. A current ripple that has twice the supply frequency of the power supply is generated in the dc part when a single-phase pulse width modulated inverter is used for a grid connection. The current ripple causes shortening of the lifetime of electrolytic capacitors, batteries, and fuel cells. The proposed circuit realizes a dc active filter function without increasing the number of switching devices, because the energy buffer capacitor is connected to the center tap of the isolation transformer. In addition, the buffer capacitor voltage is controlled by the common-mode voltage of the inverter. The features of the proposed circuit are described and Simulation results are presented.Simulation results proves the ripple reduction, to approximately 20% that of the conventional circuit

To evaluate the effect of different levels of nitrogen on growth and yield of wheat a field experiment was conducted in 2017-18 at research area of cereals and pulses section, Ayyub agricultural research institute, Faisalabad. Eight levels of nitrogen i.e. 0, 29, 58, 87, 116, 145, 174, 203 kg ha-1 were evaluated. Experiment was laid out under randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications with a net plot size of 10×5m. Data were recorded for growth and yield parameters like number of tillers, plant height, spiklets per spike, seeds per spike, biological yield, 1000 grain weight, grain yield and harvest index. Different levels of nitrogen significantly increased all the growth and yield parameters. Maximum number of tillers, highest plant height and biological yield was recorded from the treatment where nitrogen was applied @ 203 Kg ha-1 while 1000 grain yield, seeds per spike and grain yield was achieved highest from where nitrogen applied @ 145 Kg ha-1

A study was undertaken to isolate a novel indigenous bacterial strain namely Burkholderia cepacia from tea soils to solubilize potassium (K) and phosphorus (P) sources respectively. The isolated strain was screened based on its solubilization potential in both broth and agarized medium amended with various K and P sources. Plant growth promoting traits and biocontrol activity of the purified strain against tea pathogens such as Pestalotiopsis theae, Glomerella cingulata, Poria hypolateritia, Phomopsis theae and Hypoxylon serpens were studied. Results revealed a significant solubilizing zone in agar medium blended with muriate of potash (MOP) (2.0 cm), sulphate of potash (SOP) (1.2 cm), rock phosphate (1.6 cm) and single super phosphate (0.8 cm). The release of available K was quantified in liquid medium supplemented with MOP and was found to be higher (41.5 mg L-1) than SOP. Among different P sources, rock phosphate (35.2 mg L-1) showed higher solubilization than single super phosphate (30.2 mg L-1) by the test organism on 5th day of incubation. B. cepacia was found to produce a large amount of bioactive compounds like siderophore (12.3 μg mL-1), IAA (263.3 μg mL-1) and GA3 (14.9 μg mL-1) including exo-polysaccharides (46.8 ppm). The test organism also showed a remarkable biocontrol activity against P. theae (52.5%), G. cingulata (42.5%), H. serpens (47.5%), Phomopsis theae (32.7%) and P. hypolateritia (30.9%). The secondary metabolites production by an efficient strain B. cepacia revealed that the strain could produce a wide range of volatile compounds

An Empirical Study on Different Ranking Methods for Effective Data Classification

    Get PDF
Ranking is the attribute selection technique used in the pre-processing phase to emphasize the most relevant attributes which allow models of classification simpler and easy to understand. It is a very important and a central task for information retrieval, such as web search engines, recommendation systems, and advertisement systems. A comparison between eight ranking methods was conducted. Ten different learning algorithms (NaiveBayes, J48, SMO, JRIP, Decision table, RandomForest, Multilayerperceptron, Kstar) were used to test the accuracy. The ranking methods with different supervised learning algorithms give different results for balanced accuracy. It was shown the selection of ranking methods could be important for classification accuracy

OBJECTIVES: This study is done to make a definitive diagnosis by using various diagnostic modalities available at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital and to identify the Common etiologies for Chronic Recurrent Pain. METHODS: This study was conducted at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. A sample size of 50 patients with complaints of Chronic Recurrent pain abdomen were taken into this study. The patients with Acute Abdomen, patients undergoing previous surgeries and urological and Gynaecological causes were excluded from this Study. RESULTS: Of the total 50 patients studied, it was found that the incidence was more commoner in males, and patients between 31-40 years were commonly affected.16 of the 50 patients were Alcoholics for more than 10 years and Chronic smokers and vegetarians were less commonly affected than people taking mixed diet. The patients with low Socio Economic status were commonly affected in this study. This study also showed that OGD scopy revealed the diagnosis in patients with peptic ulcer disease, GORD and Gastritis, CT was confirmatory in case of Chronic pancreatitis and colonoscopy proved its importance in identification of intra luminal pathologies such as Neoplastic Growth. Of the total 50 patients 43 patients were treated conservatively of which 17 got relieved of their symptoms and 7 patients were subjected to surgical treatment of which 4 patients got relieved of their symptoms. CONCLUSION: The common etiology for chronic recurrent pain abdomen in adults at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital was peptic ulcer, chronic pancreatitis, Gastritis, GORD, TB abdomen followed by malignancy. For patients with upper abdominal pathology, endoscopy proves to be a confirmatory diagnosis and for patients with lower abdominal pathology CT abdomen and diagnostic Laparoscopy gives better information in arriving at a diagnosis. For 5 out of total 50 patients, definitive diagnosis could not be established inspite of all investigations. These patients were classified as chronic intractable abdominal pain, which is found to be more common in females. They were given placebo and referred to psychiatrists for further management

    A Note on Isolate Domination

A set SS of vertices of a graph GG such that S\left\langle S\right\rangle has an isolated vertex is called an \emph{isolate set} of GG. The minimum and maximum cardinality of a maximal isolate set are called the \emph{isolate number} i0(G)i_0(G) and the \emph{upper isolate number} I0(G)I_0(G) respectively. An isolate set that is also a dominating set (an irredundant set) is an \emph{isolate dominating set} \ (\emph{an isolate irredundant set}). The \emph{isolate domination number} γ0(G)\gamma_0(G) and the \emph{upper isolate domination number} Γ0(G)\Gamma_0(G) are respectively the minimum and maximum cardinality of a minimal isolate dominating set while the \emph{isolate irredundance number} ir0(G)ir_0(G) and the \emph{upper isolate irredundance number} IR0(G)IR_0(G) are the minimum and maximum cardinality of a maximal isolate irredundant set of GG. The notion of isolate domination was introduced in \cite{sb} and the remaining were introduced in \cite{isrn}. This paper further extends a study of these parameters
