Studies on the procyclical behaviour of banks
The three papers in this volume investigate the same subject matter, the procyclicality of banking sector behaviour, from three different perspectives. The first paper of the volume focuses on some regulatory aspects of banks’ procyclical behaviour. The second paper deals both with the depth of financial intermediation and banks’ procyclical behaviour, as in the case of catching-up economies the two subjects are interrelated. The third paper describes some regulatory options that may encourage banks to prepare in due time for a deterioration in loan quality due to changes in the economic environment.Pro-cyclicality, Basel Capital Accord, Credit risk, Provisioning, Regulation.
The effect of plasma-core induced self-guiding on phase matching of high-order harmonic generation in gases
In this work we numerically study a self-guiding process in which ionization
plays a dominant role and analyze its effect on high-order harmonic generation
(HHG) in gases. Although this type of self-guiding --- termed as plasma-core
induced self-guiding in previous works --- limits the achievable cut-off by
regulating the intensity of the laser beam, it provides favorable conditions
for phase matching, which is indispensable for high-flux gas high-harmonic
sources. To underline the role of self-guiding in efficient HHG, we investigate
the time-dependent phase matching conditions in the guided beam and show how
the spatio-temporally constant fundamental intensity contributes to the
constructive build-up of the harmonic field in a broad photon-energy range up
to the provided cut-off.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figure
Hegymenet Alkalmazkodás a piacgazdasági realitásokhoz a munka világában
szólnak a legélesebb közgazdasági viták. A 2000-es években számos átfogó, nagy
figyelmet kiváltó, kitűnő monográfia is született a makrogazdaság tárgykörében
(Antal[2004], Csaba[2006], Erdős[2003]) Az ezek alapjául szolgáló kutatásoknak különös
aktualitást ad a globális pénzügyi válság, a kapuk előtt álló recesszió fenyegetése.
Sokkal kevesebb szó esik azonban azokról a változásokról, amelyeket a mikrogazdaságban
tapasztalhatunk.
a stabilizáciĂł fundamentumainak a kiĂ©pĂtĂ©se, a növekedĂ©s forrásainak a megteremtĂ©se
a mikroszférában elkerülhetetlen változásokat. Hosszú távon a makrofolyamatok lefutását
egyensúlyvesztés mögött is a mikroszereplők alkalmazkodásának problémái
és hiányosságai húzódnak meg.
E tanulmány célja a mikrojelenségek feltérképezése. A mikrofejleményeket a legfontosabb
termelési tényező: a munka oldaláról vizsgáljuk, amelyben a legnagyobb torzulások
elemeket azonosĂthatunk a vállalatok világában vĂ©gbemenĹ‘, egymással szorosan összefonĂłdĂł
változásokban, mi ezeknek a mozgatórugója, és milyen akadályok, korlátok állnak
az emlĂtett változások Ăştjában
A gyenge hazai innováciĂłs teljesĂtmĂ©ny intĂ©zmĂ©nyi magyarázatához. VitaĂrás a nemzetközi innováciĂłs versenyben valĂł rĂ©szvĂ©tel akadályairĂłl (Towards an institutional explanation of the country's weak innovation performance)
MiĂ©rt van a magyar gazdaság hasonlĂłan kritikus helyzetben, mint a rendszerváltást megelĹ‘zĹ‘ idĹ‘kben? MiĂ©rt nem sikerĂĽl az eladĂłsodást megállĂtani, a gazdaságot konszolidálni, Ă©s fenntarthatĂł növekedĂ©si pályára állĂtani? Ennek közvetlen okát a szerzĹ‘k a fejlĹ‘dĂ©s fĂ©loldalasságában Ă©s a duális gazdasági szerkezetben látják. Az országban mĂ©g mindig meglehetĹ‘sen korlátozott a sikeres belĂ©pĂ©s lehetĹ‘sĂ©ge a piaci Ă©s a politikai arĂ©nába, azaz a magyar társadalom - a north-i terminolĂłgiával Ă©lve - "korlátozott hozzáfĂ©rĂ©sre alapozott társadalomkĂ©nt" ĂrhatĂł le. Az a tĂ©ny, hogy a piaci szereplĹ‘k esĂ©lyei az államhoz Ă©s intĂ©zmĂ©nyeihez fűzĹ‘dĹ‘ kapcsolatoktĂłl fĂĽggĹ‘en nagyban kĂĽlönböznek egymástĂłl, Ă©s a gazdasági szereplĹ‘k rendszerszerűen használják e kapcsolatokat járadĂ©kszerzĂ©sre, lefojtja az innováciĂłt, Ă©s Ăşjra Ă©s Ăşjra megakasztja a fejlĹ‘dĂ©st. / === / Why is Hungary's economy still in a critical state similar to the one before the change of system? Why is the indebtedness not being halted, the economy consolidated or vital structural reforms performed? The authors see the direct cause in lopsided development and a dual economic structure. The introduction of market economic institutions was not followed by rapid, overall development towards a knowledge-led, information economy. Several indicators show how Hungary has fallen behind in competition for international innovation. The inadequacy is not a fortuitous, exogenous attribute, but explicable in terms of a real institutional setup underlying the formal market institutions, and of actual behaviour patterns found in the economy. Only in part has substance been gained by the institutions and legal frames of a market economy that theoretically would provide free and open access to resources. The scope for successful entry into the market or political arena remains very narrow, so that in Douglass North's terms, Hungary's is still "a society based on restricted access." Innovation is stifled and development repeatedly impeded by the fact that market players' chances differ widely depending on their connections with the state and its institutions and such connections are used regularly in rent-seeking

Extended model for optimizing high-order harmonic generation in absorbing gases
We report on an extended version of the one-dimensional model proposed by Constant et al (1999 Phys. Rev. Lett. 82 1668) to study phase matching of high-order harmonic generation in absorbing and dispersive medium. The model-expanded from zeroth to first order-can be used with media having a pressure profile varying linearly with propagation length. Based on the new formulas, the importance of having a generation medium that ends abruptly with a steep pressure gradient for achieving high flux is highlighted. In addition to further rule-of-thumb guidelines for harmonic-flux optimization, it is shown that having a steep increase of pressure in the beginning of the medium increases harmonic flux, while it also decreases the required medium length to reach the absorption-limited maximum
