    The Effect of Group Counseling Program on Dealing with School Exhaustion of 7th Grade Students

    In this research, the effect of Group Counseling Program on coping with school exhaustion was investigated. The study was conducted with 7th grade students attending Private Bogazici Educational Center in Bakirkoy, Istanbul during 2016-2017 academic year. “the School Burnout Scale for the Second Level of Primary Education”, which was developed by Aypay (2011) was used to assess school exhaustion levels. Sixteen (8 males and 8 females) out of 96 students with high school exhaustion levels and willing to participate in the study was selected randomly. 8 of them were randomly assigned as experimental group (4 males and 4 females) and the other 8 students were randomly assigned as control group. In this research, pre-test post-test control group design was used. In the study, group counseling was applied to the experimental group for 8 weeks and no treatment was given to the control group. For the analysis of the data, Mann-Whitney-U test was used for intra-group comparison; and Wilcoxon test was used for inter-group comparison. As a result, it was found that group counseling program was effective in decreasing school exhaustion; however, it was not effective in family originated exhaustion and school inadequacy, which are sub-dimensions of school exhaustion. The results showed that there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores of total exhaustion scores. Obtained data was interpreted and recommendations were given in the scope of the literature. Keywords: school exhaustion, group counseling, 7th grade student

    The Effect of a Psycho-Training Program Designed to Increase Optimism on Secondary School Students

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficiency of a psycho-training program designed to increase optimism levels of the secondary school students. Pre-test post-test control group design was used in the study. “Life Orientation Scale”, which was developed by Scheier and Carver (1987) and adapted by Aydın and Tezer (1991), was applied to the 8th graders of Istanbul Avcılar Cihangir State School in 2015-2016 academic year. 24 voluntary students with low optimism levels were selected, then, 12 of them were randomly assigned as experimental group, and the other 12 were assigned as control group. Psycho-training program was applied to only experimental group for one and half hour for eight weeks. Control group was not exposed to any manipulation. The independent variable in this study was psycho-training program and the dependent variable was the optimism level of the students.  For the analysis of the data Mann- Whitney U test was used for inter-group differences and Wilcoxon Signed Rang Test was used for intra-group differences. The results of the study indicate that psycho-training program designed to increase optimism levels has been effective in increasing optimism levels of the students in experimental group.     Bu makalede, pandemi sürecinin sebep olduğu bireysel, ailevi ve toplumsal bağlamda ortaya çıkan travmatik durumlara karşı oldukça etkili çözümler sağlayan “pozitif psikoloji” yaklaşımı ele alınmıştır. Bilindiği gibi Aralık 2019’da Wuhan, Çin merkezli, insanlarda akut solunum sendromu (COVID-19) salgınına yol açan yeni bir coronavirus (SARS CoV2) ortaya çıktı. Üç ay içinde, virüs 118.000’den fazla vakaya yayıldı ve 114 ülkede 4,291 ölüme neden oldu ve Dünya Sağlık Örgütü’nün küresel bir pandemi ilan etmesine yol açtı. Pandemi, el yıkamayı artırarak, yüze dokunmayı azaltarak, kamusal alanda maske takarak ve fiziksel uzaklaştırma yoluyla virüsün yayılmasını yavaşlatmak için büyük bir küresel halk sağlığı kampanyasına yol açmıştır..

    Analysis of 4th Grade Students' Problem Solving Skills in Terms of Several Variables

    The aim of this study is to examine if the level of primary school students in solving problems differs according to some demographic variables. The research is descriptive type in the general survey method, it was carried out with quantitative research techniques. The sample of the study consisted of 587 primary school students in Grade 4. The data of the study was obtained by applying "Problem Solving Inventory for Primary School Children", developed by Serin, Bulut-Serin and Saygılı (2010). To analyze the data, t-test, was used to determine differences in test, after one-way ANOVA test Scheffer as complementary post-hoc analysis was used. The results of the analysis show a significant difference in terms of maternal educational level and type of school according to scale total scale scores of problem solving skill (p<0.05). No significant difference was found in terms of gender and level of parental education status (p>0.05). As a result of the research, organizing supportive trainings for the children experiencing shortage of problem solving skills have been suggested to their parents and teachers.     In this study, the relationship between parents’ involvement level of secondary school students and of their academic success was analyzed and it was investigated whether parents’ involvement level changes according to parents’ gender, age, educational status, family’s socio-economic level, gender of student and class level or not. The research sample was composed of 265 female and 227 male students, a total of 492 secondary school students, and of their parents. “Family Involvement Scales” were used to measure parents’ involvement level. In order to determine students’ academic success, the final achievement weighted score of students for the previous year was used. For the data analysis, besides descriptive statistics, Spearman correlation coefficient, one-way analysis of variance and independent samples t-test was used. As a result of the research, it was identified that the parents’ involvement level was shown a significant difference according to parents' gender and socio-economic level of the family. As a result of the research, it has been found to be a significant positive relationship between parents’ involvement level of secondary school students’ and their academic success. As parents’ involvement level increases, academic success also increases. ÖzetBu çalışmada ortaokul öğrencilerinin anne-baba katılım düzeyi ile akademik başarıları arasındaki ilişki incelenmiş ve anne-baba katılım düzeyinin ebeveynin cinsiyetine, yaşına, eğitim durumuna, ailenin sosyo-ekonomik düzeyine, öğrencinin cinsiyetine ve sınıf düzeyine göre farklılaşıp farklılaşmadığı araştırılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini 265’i kız, 227’si erkek olmak üzere toplam 492 ortaokul öğrencisi ve bunların anne-babaları oluşturmuştur. Ebeveynlerin anne-baba katılım düzeylerini ölçmek amacıyla “Aile Katılım Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Öğrencilerin akademik başarılarını tespit etmek amacıyla öğrencinin bir önceki yıla ilişkin ağırlıklı yıl sonu başarı puanı kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde betimsel istatistiklerin yanında Spearman korelasyon katsayısı, tek yönlü varyans analizi ve bağımsız örneklem t-testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda anne-baba katılım düzeyinin ebeveynlerin cinsiyetine ve ailenin sosyo-ekonomik düzeyine göre anlamlı bir farklılık gösterdiği tespit edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda ortaokul öğrencilerinin anne-baba katılım düzeyi ile akademik başarıları arasında anlamlı pozitif bir ilişki olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Anne-baba katılım düzeyi arttıkça akademik başarı da artmaktadır

    The effect of attachment styles on problematıc ınternet use ın hıgh school students

    Bu araştırma, lise öğrencilerinde bağlanma stillerinin problemli internet kullanımı (PİK) üzerindeki etkisini incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 2015-2016 eğitim öğretim döneminde Konya ilinin çeşitli ilçelerinde eğitim gören 200 Anadolu Lisesi (109 kız, 91 erkek) öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Katılımcılar rastgele tabakalı örneklem yöntemi ile seçilmiştir. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak, Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Yakın İlişkiler Yaşantılar Envanteri (Sümer, 2006a), Problemli İnternet Kullanım Ölçeği Ergen Formu (Ceyhan ve Ceyhan, 2014) ve verileri çözümlemek için de SPSS 22 programı kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucu, lise öğrencilerinde bağlanma stillerinin PİK’nı etkilediğini göstermiştir. Elde edilen bulgular literatür ışığında tartışılmış ve bu araştırmanın farklı gelişim dönemleri üzerinde, farklı değişkenlerle tekrarlanması önerilmiştir.The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of attachment styles on problematic internet usage (PIU) in high school students. The sample of the study involves 200 students (109 females, 91 males) that have been studied in Anatolian High Schools in different districts of Konya in 2015-2016 academic year. The sample is randomly selected through stratified sampling method. As a data collection tools, Personal Information Form, Experiences in Close Relationship Inventory (Brennan, Clark and Shaver, 1998) and Problematic Internet Usage Scale for Adolescents (Ceyhan and Ceyhan, 2014) were used and analyzed by the means of SPSS.22 Program.     Araştırmanın ilk bölümünde, “ilişkisel tarama modeli” kullanılarak ergenlerin mesleki olgunluk düzeyleri ile benlik kavramları, aile ortamını psiko-sosyal algılayışları, bazı akademik ve demografik değişkenler arasında ilişki olup olmadığı incelenmiş; ikinci bölümünde ise, “Solomon Dört-Grup Deneysel Modeli” uygulanarak “Mesleki Karar Verme Eğitim Programı”nın etkisi araştırılmıştır. Araştırmanın tarama bölümünün örneklemini, İstanbul ili içinde öğretim yapan resmi ve özel liselerden rastgele çekilen, 20 resmi ve 10 özel olmak üzere toplam 30 lise ve bu liselerden “küme örnekleme” tekniği ile elde edilen 2576 lise 1., 2. ve 3. sınıf öğrencisinden, değerlendirmeye alınan 2434 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Araştırmanın deneme bölümünün örneklemini ise, çalışmanın birinci bölümünün örneklemi olan liselerden birinin tarama bölümüne katılmış ve katılmamış olan 2. sınıf gönüllü öğrencilerin içinden rastgele seçilen 10’ar kişilik 2 deney ve 10’ar kişilik 2 kontrol grubu öğrencisi oluşturmuştur. Araştırmanın birinci bölümünün verilerini toplamak için “Mesleki Olgunluk Envanteri (Yeterlilik Testi, Kendini Tanıma Alt-testi)”, “Piers-Harris Öz-Kavram Ölçeği”, “Aile Ortamı Ölçeğı” ve “Kişisel Bilgi Formu” araçları kullanılmıştır. İkinci bölümünde ise, araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanmış olan “Mesleki Karar Verme Eğitim Programı” uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular, tek-yönlü ve üç-yönlü varyans analizleri, Pearson Momentler Çarpımı Korelasyon Katsayısı istatistik tekniklerine göre analiz edilmiştir. Bulgulara göre, mesleki olgunluk ile öz-kavram verilerinin toplamı ve altı alt-boyutu arasında; mesleki olgunluk ile ailenin psiko-sosyal algılanışı verilerinin iki alt-boyutu arasında; mesleki olgunluk verileri ile örneklemin akademik başarısı, cinsiyeti, anne-baba eğitim düzeyi, kendi eğitim düzeyi (1., 2., 3. sınıf olması) ve lise türü (resmi ya da özel) arasında .01 ve .05 manidarlık düzeyinde anlamlı derecede ilişki bulunmuştur. Ancak, mesleki olgunluk düzeyi ile okullarda rehberlik servisinin olup olmaması arasında anlamlı derecede ilişki bulunamamıştır. Araştırmanın deneysel bölümünün analizine göre, “Mesleki Karar Verme Eğitim Programı”nın, deney grubunun mesleki olgunluk düzeyini yükselttiği ortaya çıkmıştır. The present research was prepard in two sections. In the first section, survey model was used to study the relation between career maturity of adolescents and their self-consept, family psycho-social perception, academic and demographic variables were studied. In the second section, “Solomon Four-Group Experimental Model” was used to study the effectiveness of career decision making program. The sample of the first part was randomly chosen from the private and public schools in Istanbul. Twenty Public and ten private school were selected and using the cluster sample technique, the scales were administered to 2576 ninth, tenth and eleventh grade students, but 2434 students were used in the analysis. The sample of the experimental part of the research were also selected from one of these schools. Twenty students were participated at the survey and the other twenty weren’t the sample of the first section of the research. These students all were tenth grade and all were randomly selected. In the first part of the research “Career Maturity Inventory-Competence Test, Knowing Your-Self”; “Piers Harris Self-Consept”, “Family Environment Questionarie” and “Personel Questionarie” were used. In the second part of the research “Career Decision-Making” program was administered. One-way Analysis of Variance, t-test, Pearson Correlation Coefficient were used to analyze the variables. Results indicated that there are correlations between career maturity and self-consept; family environment, academical achievements, sex, education, parents education. However, there isn’t any relation between career maturity and having guidance service in the school. The experimental study showed that “Career Decision-Making Program” was effective
