    Plateau pika fecal microbiota transplantation ameliorates inflammatory bowel disease manifestations in a mouse model of colitis

    Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a serious global public health concern. Although the pathogenesis of the disease is currently unknown, it has been reported to be associated with both intestinal microbiota and inflammatory mediators. There is evidence suggesting that the feces of the Plateau pika is useful for treating gastrointestinal injuries and pain. Although fecal microbiota transplantation is highly efficacious intervention for IBD prevention, however, potential the transfer of pathogenic microbes or toxic substances is potentially hazardous. Fortunately, micropore filtering of the donor feces can minimize the risk of bacterial infection allowing retention of the therapeutic effects of the residual bacteriophages. Here, we demonstrated that Plateau pika feces not only alleviated the IBD symptoms but also promoted optimal structure and composition of the intestinal microbiota. Additionally, Plateau pika feces transfer also enhanced phenotypic features, such as, body-weight, disease activity index, and histological scores. In conclusion, Plateau pika feces was found to protect mice against colitis induced by dextran sodium sulfate by reducing inflammation and regulating microbial dysbiosis. These findings suggest the potential of Plateau pika feces as an alternative therapy for IBD

    ACE: A Routing Algorithm Based on Autonomous Channel Scheduling for Bluetooth Mesh Network

    The Internet of Things (IoT) interconnects massive cyber-physical devices (CPD) to provide various applications, such as smart home and smart building. Bluetooth Mesh is an emerging networking technology, which can be used to organize a massive network with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices. Managed-flooding protocol is used in Bluetooth Mesh to route the data packets. Although it is a highly desirable option when data transmission is urgent, it is inefficient in a larger and denser mesh network due to the collisions of broadcast data packets. In this paper, we introduce ACE: a Routing Algorithm based on Autonomous Channel Scheduling for Bluetooth Mesh Network. ACE relies on the existing Bluetooth Mesh messages to distribute routes without additional traffic overhead and conducts a beacon-aware routing update adaptively as the topology evolves. In ACE, BLE channel resources can be efficiently utilized by a channel scheduling scheme for each node locally and autonomously without any neighborly negotiation. We implement ACE on the nRF52840 from Nordic Semiconductor and evaluate its effectiveness on our testbed. Compared to the Bluetooth Mesh, our experiments proved that ACE could reduce the end-to-end latency by 16%, alleviate packets collisions issues, and increase the packet delivery ratio (PDR) by 30% under heavy traffic.     The deformation characteristics and flow field around knotless polyethylene netting based on fluid structure interaction (FSI) one-way coupling

    Knotless polyethylene (PE) netting is widely used in fisheries because of its excellent hydrodynamic performance and low cost. Netting deformation and the surrounding flow field distribution play an important role in determining the hydrodynamic characteristics of netting in moving water. In order to investigate the effect of solidity ratio and attack angle on drag, netting deformation, and flow field distribution through the netting, a fluid-structure interaction (FSI) model based on a one-way coupling combining the shear stress turbulent (SST) k-omega model and the large deformation nonlinear structural finite element model was evaluated. Our results showed the difference between the parallel and normal drag forces found in the present numerical model and experimental flume tank data were 9.17% and 11.58%, respectively. The mean relative error in the inclined hydrodynamic drag for different flow velocities and attack angles was 8.35%, 6.69%, and 5.37% for the nettings 1, 2, and 3, respectively. These results show that the present numerical simulation based on FSI one-way coupling can be used to examine hydrodynamic forces on netting. The flow simulation results show that there is a noticeable flow velocity decrease through the netting and a rather large velocity reduction region downstream from the netting for different attack angles. These results reveal the existence of turbulent flow due to the netting wake. It was found that the equivalent stress and total deformation increase as the flow velocity increases and solidity ratio decreases

    Chinese experts consensus for aerosol therapy assisted by Internet of Things

    Aerosol inhalation treatment imposes direct effects on target organs with less systematic side effects and no need of deliberate cooperation of patients. However, the lack of resources and experience impairs the drug efficacy and even causes side effects. The editorial board of International Journal of Respiration reviewed the literature, discussed and summarized their experience, and finalized the Chinese experts consensus on the treatment of aerosol inhalation assisted by Internet of Things. This practice guideline was designed to guide medical staffs at all levels to carry out standardized aerosol inhalation treatment more properly.     Derived Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio and C-Reactive Protein as Prognostic Factors for Early-Stage Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Treated with Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy

    Objectives: To explore the relationship between peripheral blood inflammation parameters and overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) of early-stage non-small cell lung cancer patients who underwent stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). Patients and methods: In this study, eligible patients treated with SBRT from 2013 to 2018, and both serum complete blood count and blood biochemical results were available prior to (within 60 days) radiotherapy were included. Results: A review of hospital registries identified 148 patients, and the 5-year OS and PFS of the entire cohort were 69.8% and 65.6%, respectively, with the median follow-up time was 52.8 months. Multivariable analysis showed that derived neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (dNLR) ≥1.4 and C-reactive protein (CRP) ≥2.9 were statistically and independently associated with worse OS (HR = 4.62, 95% CI 1.89–11.27, p = 0.001; HR = 2.92, 95% CI 1.49–5.70, p = 0.002, respectively). The 5-year OS for patients with dNLR below and equal to or above the 1.4 were 85.3% and 62.9% (p = 0.002), respectively, and 76.7% for the low CRP group versus 58.5% for the high CRP group (p = 0.030). Higher serum level of post-treatment CRP also independent parameters for inferior PFS (HR = 4.83, 95% CI 1.28–18.25, p = 0.020). Conclusions: Our results demonstrate that dNLR and CRP are associated with the outcomes of early-stage NSCLC patients treated with SBRT, which may assist in selecting optimal nursing care and therapeutic scheme for every individual

    Comparison of stereotactic body radiation therapy versus surgery for multiple primary lung cancers after prior radical resection: A multicenter retrospective study

    Background: Patients who previously underwent surgical resection of initial primary lung cancer are at a high risk of developing multiple primary lung cancers (MPLCs). The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety between stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) and surgery for MPLCs patients after prior radical resection for the first lung cancers. Methods: In this multicenter retrospective study, eligible MPLC patients with tumor diameter of 5.0 cm or less at N0M0 who underwent SBRT or reoperation between January 2013 and August 2020 were enrolled. The primary endpoint was the 3-year locoregional recurrence and treatment-related toxicity. Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate survival rates. The χ2 test was adapted to assess the difference of categorical variables between the two subgroup patients. Results: A total of 203 (73 in the SBRT group and 130 in the surgery group) patients from three academic cancer centers were evaluated with a median follow-up of 38.3 months. The cumulative 1-, 2-, and 3-year incidences of locoregional recurrence were 5.6 %, 7.0 % and 13.1 % in the SBRT group versus 3.2 %, 4.8 % and 7.4 % in the surgery group, respectively [hazard ratio (HR), 1.97; 95 % confidence interval (CI), 0.74–5.24; P = 0.14]. The cancer-specific survival rates were 95.9 %, 94.5 % and 88.1 % versus 96.9 %, 94.6 % and 93.8 % in the SBRT and surgery groups respectively (HR, 1.72; 95 % CI, 0.67–4.44; P = 0.23). In the SBRT group, two patients (2.7 %) suffered from grade 3 radiation pneumonitis, while in the surgery group, grade 3 complications occurred in four (3.1 %) patients, and four cases were expired due to pneumonia or pulmonary heart disease within 90 days after surgery. Conclusions: SBRT is an effective therapeutic option with limited toxicity compared to surgery for patients with MPLCs after prior radical surgical resection, and it could be considered as an alternative treatment for those patients
