    Empirical Investigation on Agile Methods Usage: Issues Identified from Early Adopters in Malaysia

    Agile Methods are a set of software practices that can help to produce products faster and at the same time deliver what customers want. Despite the benefits that Agile methods can deliver, however, we found few studies from the Southeast Asia region, particularly Malaysia. As a result, less empirical evidence can be obtained in the country making its implementation harder. To use a new method, experience from other practitioners is critical, which describes what is important, what is possible and what is not possible concerning Agile. We conducted a qualitative study to understand the issues faced by early adopters in Malaysia where Agile methods are still relatively new. The initial study involves 13 participants including project managers, CEOs, founders and software developers from seven organisations. Our study has shown that social and human aspects are important when using Agile methods. While technical aspects have always been considered to exist in software development, we found these factors to be less important when using Agile methods. The results obtained can serve as guidelines to practitioners in the country and the neighbouring regions

The BALT region of 5 to 7 week old non-vaccination animals were analysed for B, T and FCD cells. Isotype controls were used to standardise the microscope and examine aspecific binding before acquiring images (A-B). The GC of MacReporter animals are tightly packed with Bu1-CSF1R-eGFP+ FDC cells and Bu1+CSF1R-eGFP- B cells (C) with few Bu1+ B cells found in the parabronchi (F). CD3+ T cells are disperse within and outside the GC (D) and parabronchi (G). CSF1R-eGFP+ FDC cells express Fc receptors and trap immunoglobulin by expressing IgY (E) and CSF1R-eGFP+ IgY+ FDC are rarely detected out with the GC, BALT region of the lung.     Experimental Prediction of Wear Rate on Rail and Wheel Materials at Dry Sliding Contact

    This research is aimed at predicting the rail gauge and wheel flange contacts and their influences to wear rate using pin-on-disc method. A real model using a pin to represent a wheel component and a disc to represent a rail component were fabricated for the experiments. The experimental results were analyzed and the empirical formula of the wear depths as functions of applied load, bulk temperature and sliding velocity were obtained to describe the behavior of the systems. The results showed that the wear depth increased linearly with the increasing in applied load and temperature, while it decayed exponentially with the sliding velocity. The results were found to agree with the twin disc models from previous research works

    Output Speed Prediction of an Overrunning Clutch for Oscillatory Input Motion using a Simplified Approach

    This paper presents the derivation of a simplified mathematical equation to predict the output speed of an overrunning clutch. The working principle of the overrunning clutch was studied and mathematical equations were derived for different cases. A MATLAB Simulink model was created to simulate the equations and ADAMS/View simulation was used for verification. The equations are able to calculate the output motion with minimal errors. The equation can be used for a quick estimation to predict the output speed for any kind of input motions

    Zero Distribution of System with Unknown Random Variables Case Study: Avoiding Collision Path

    This paper presents the stochastic analysis of finding the feasible trajectories of robotics arm motion at obstacle surrounding. Unknown variables are coefficients of polynomials joint angle so that the collision-free motion is achieved. ãk is matrix consisting of these unknown feasible polynomial coefficients. The pattern of feasible polynomial in the obstacle environment shows as random. This paper proposes to model the pattern of this randomness values using random polynomial with unknown variables as coefficients. The behavior of the system will be obtained from zero distribution as the characteristic of such random polynomial. Results show that the pattern of random polynomial of avoiding collision can be constructed from zero distribution. Zero distribution is like building block of the system with obstacles as uncertainty factor. By scale factor k, which has range, the random coefficient pattern can be predicted

    Development of force feedback in steering systems for virtual driving simulator

    In steer-by-wire (SBW) vehicles, the elimination of the rigid mechanical column shaft would require the system to generate an artificial feedback torque which should produce similar driving feeling and behavior as to the conventional steering system. The objective of this study is to evaluate the characteristics of force feedback inside SBW vehicle for driving simulator utilizing Logitech G27 steering wheel. The model of the system is developed in Matlab/Simulink/3D Animation. A J-turn test is performed to see the resulting handwheel torque and its effect on the vehicle dynamic. The evaluation shows that the results are reasonable such that the driver of the simulator can feel the similar forces coming from the real road

    Effect of Mn<sup>+2</sup> Doping and Vacancy on the Ferromagnetic Cubic 3C-SiC Structure Using First Principles Calculations

    Wide bandgap semiconductors doped with transition metals are attracting significant attention in the fabrication of dilute magnetic semiconductor devices (DMSs). The working principle of DMSs is based on the manipulation of the electron spin, which is useful for magnetic memory devices and spintronic applications. Using the density functional theory (DFT) calculation with the GGA+U approximation, we investigated the effect of native defects on the magnetic and electronic structure of Mn+2-doped 3C-SiC structure. Three structures were selected with variations in the distance between two impurities of (Mn+2)-doped 3C-SiC, which are 4.364 Å, 5.345Å, and 6.171 Å, respectively. We found ferromagnetic coupling for single and double Mn+2 dopant atoms in the 3C-SiC structure with magnetic moments of 3 μB and 6 μB respectively. This is due to the double exchange because of p-d orbital hybridization. The p-orbitals of C atoms play important roles in the stability of the ferromagnetic configuration. The impact of Si-vacancy (nearby, far) and C-vacancy (near) of (Mn+2)-doped 3C-SiC plays an important role in the stabilization of AFM due to super-exchange coupling, while the C-vacancy (far) model is stable in FM. All electronic structures of Mn+2-doped 3C-SiC reveal a half-metallic behavior, except for the Si-vacancy and C-vacancy of (nearby), which shows a semiconductor with bandgap of 0.317 and 0.828 eV, respectively. The Curie temperature of (Mn+2)-doped 3C-SiC are all above room temperature. The study shows that native vacancies play a role in tuning the structure from (FM) to (AFM), and this finding is consistent with experiments reported in the literature

    Uplift and settlement prediction model of marine clay soil e integrated with polyurethane foam

    Polyurethane (PU) foam is a lightweight material that can be used efficiently as a ground improvement method in solving excessive and differential settlement of soil foundation mainly for infrastructures such as road, highway and parking spaces. The ground improvement method is done by excavation and removal of soft soil at shallow depth and replacement with lightweight PU foam slab. This study is done to simulate the model of marine clay soil integrated with polyurethane foam using finite element method (FEM) PLAXIS 2D for prediction of settlement behavior and uplift effect due to polyurethane foam mitigation method. Model of soft clay foundation stabilized with PU foam slab with variation in thickness and overburden loads were analyzed. Results from FEM exhibited the same trend as the results of the analytical method whereby PU foam has successfully reduced the amount of settlement significantly. With the increase in PU foam thickness, the settlement is reduced, nonetheless the uplift pressure starts to increase beyond the line of effective thickness. PU foam design chart has been produced for practical application in order to adopt the effective thickness of PU foam within tolerable settlement value and uplift pressure with respect to different overburden loads for ground improvement works
