A large olive ridely turtle was found stranded in dead condition near Thalikulam Landing Centre at Thambankadavu (Thrissur District, Kerala) on 19.04.2012. The specimen weighed around 60 kg and length was 78 cm in length

Mud bank fishery observed in Thrissur District, Kerala during June, 2012

During the month of June, 2012 from 25th to 30th, mud bank fishery was observed in Thrissur District, Kerala. During the six days of mud bank fishery , the landings of the district concentrated only at five centres, namely Puthan kadapuram, Blangad, Chettuva, Kaipamangalam (Companykadavu) and Perijanam (Bhajanamadam). The phenomenon was first noticed along the west coast, off Chettuva and Kaipamangalam, mostly in 5 to 16 m depth range

Heavy landing of Mobula sp. at Neendakara, Kollam, Kerala

On 12th June 2012, thritysix numbers of Mobula sp. were landed at Neendakara Fisheries Harbour. The total weight of the landings was approximately 3400 kg. The species was caught in multiday hooks and lines from Goa coast at a depth of about 450 m. The fishermen sold the catch @ ` 80/kg

Hooks and line fishery of cuttle fish from the artificial trap at Blangad, Thrissur

About 300 fibre boats fitted with outboard engine are coming to Blangad Landing Centre from Tamil Nadu (Kollamgodu, Neerodi, Enayam, Thoothur and Muttam) for Sepia fishing during October - March period. The type of gear used is hooks and line. At the end of a thread, four hooks (no.10) are attached and above the hooks, some weight wrapped with glittering silvery ribbon attached to attract the animal
