Perovskite-perovskite tandem photovoltaics with optimized bandgaps
We demonstrate four and two-terminal perovskite-perovskite tandem solar cells
with ideally matched bandgaps. We develop an infrared absorbing 1.2eV bandgap
perovskite, , that can deliver 14.8 %
efficiency. By combining this material with a wider bandgap
material, we reach monolithic two
terminal tandem efficiencies of 17.0 % with over 1.65 volts open-circuit
voltage. We also make mechanically stacked four terminal tandem cells and
obtain 20.3 % efficiency. Crucially, we find that our infrared absorbing
perovskite cells exhibit excellent thermal and atmospheric stability,
unprecedented for Sn based perovskites. This device architecture and materials
set will enable 'all perovskite' thin film solar cells to reach the highest
efficiencies in the long term at the lowest costs
Azetidinium lead iodide for perovskite solar cells
Hybrid organic–inorganic perovskites have been established as good candidate materials for emerging photovoltaics, with device efficiencies of over 22% being reported. There are currently only two organic cations, methylammonium and formamidinium, which produce 3D perovskites with band gaps suitable for photovoltaic devices. Numerous computational studies have identified azetidinium as a potential third cation for synthesizing organic–inorganic perovskites, but to date no experimental reports of azetidinium containing perovskites have been published. Here we prepare azetidinium lead iodide for the first time. Azetidinium lead iodide is a stable, bright orange material which does not appear to form a 3D or a 2D perovskite. It was successfully used as the absorber layer in solar cells. We also show that it is possible to make mixed cation devices by adding the azetidinium cation to methylammonium lead iodide. Computational studies show that the substitution of up to 5% azetidinium into the methylammonium lead iodide is energetically favourable and that phase separation does not occur at these concentrations. Mixed azetidinium–methylammonium cells show improved performance and reduced hysteresis compared to methylammonium lead iodide cells
Perceptions of complementary/alternative medicine use and influence on evidence-based asthma medicine adherence in Malaysian children
Abstract Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is widely used especially in Asia including for childhood asthma. The use of CAM could influence adherence to evidence-based (E-B) medicine. We explored the views of carers of Malaysian children with asthma regarding the use of CAM for childhood asthma, and its relationship with self-reported adherence to E-B medicine. We used a screening questionnaire to identify children diagnosed with asthma from seven suburban primary schools in Malaysia. Informed consent was obtained prior to the interviews. We conducted the interviews using a semi-structured topic guide in participants’ preferred language (Malay, Mandarin, or Tamil). All interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim and coded using Nvivo. Analysis was performed thematically, informed by the Necessity-Concerns Framework. A total of 46 carers (16 Malays, 21 Indians, 9 Chinese) contributed to 12 focus groups and one individual interview. We categorised participants’ as ‘Non-CAM’; ‘CAM’; or ‘combination’ user. Cultural practices and beliefs in the efficacy of CAM resulted in widespread use of CAM. Most carers used CAM as ‘complementary’ to E-B medicine. Concerns about dependence on or side effects of E-B treatment influenced carers’ decisions to rely on CAM as an ‘alternative’, with an important minority of accounts describing potentially harmful CAM-use. Healthcare professionals should discuss beliefs about the necessity for and concerns about use of both E-B medicine and CAM, and provide balanced information about effectiveness and safety. The aim is to improve adherence to regular E-B preventer medication and prevent delays in seeking medical advice and harmful practices associated with CAM
Progress on lead-free metal halide perovskites for photovoltaic applications: a review
ABSTRACT: Metal halide perovskites have revolutionized the field of solution-processable photovoltaics. Within just a few years, the power conversion efficiencies of perovskite-based solar cells have been improved significantly to over 20%, which makes them now already comparably efficient to silicon-based photovoltaics. This breakthrough in solution-based photovoltaics, however, has the drawback that these high efficiencies can only be obtained with lead-based perovskites and this will arguably be a substantial hurdle for various applications of perovskite-based photovoltaics and their acceptance in society, even though the amounts of lead in the solar cells are low. This fact opened up a new research field on lead-free metal halide perovskites, which is currently remarkably vivid. We took this as incentive to review this emerging research field and discuss possible alternative elements to replace lead in metal halide perovskites and the properties of the corresponding perovskite materials based on recent theoretical and experimental studies. Up to now, tin-based perovskites turned out to be most promising in terms of power conversion efficiency; however, also the toxicity of these tin-based perovskites is argued. In the focus of the research community are other elements as well including germanium, copper, antimony, or bismuth, and the corresponding perovskite compounds are already showing promising properties. The relationship between expectation, experience and perception of labour pain: an observational study.
The present study was aimed to assess the relationship between pain expectation before labour, labour pain and pain perception after the labour. Pregnant women were asked to rate their pain level on a standard continuous visual analogue scale at various time points. Pain expectancy (PE), labour pain (LP) and postpartum pain perception (PPP) scores were calculated. The final study group was composed of 230 pregnant women after exclusions. Mean age of pregnant women was 26.2 ± 5.79. The mean PE, LP, and PPP scores were 70.11 ± 18.82, 75.72 ± 19.2 and 65.84 ± 19.56, respectively. The difference among pain scores was statistically significant (p < 0.001). There was a positive correlation between PE and LP or PE and PPP scores (p = 0.27 and p = 0.21). The correlations were statistically significant (p = 0.01 or p = 0.01). In addition, there was a positive correlation between LP and PPP scores (p = 0.87) and the correlation was statistically significant (p = 0.01). This study showed that, if pregnant women had lower expectations of pain before the labour, they indeed experienced lower amount of pain during the labour
A prospective study to assess the clinical impact of interobserver reliability of sonographic measurements of fetal nuchal translucency and crown-rump length on combined first-trimester screening.
OBJECTIVE: To examine the interobserver variability for fetal biometric parameters and to focus on how this variability affects the combined first-trimester screening test results. METHODS: Sixty-four singleton pregnancies who were scheduled for combined first-trimester screening were investigated. Two experienced sonographers performed all examinations at the same visit. The risk calculations of screening were performed according to the each operator’s individual ultrasonographic fetal measurements. Interobserver variability in measurements of fetal nuchal translucency (NT) and crown-rump length (CRL) and the effect of this interobserver variability on the screening results were assessed. RESULTS: Interobserver reliabilities for NT and CRL were 0.687 and 0.945 (p<0.001), respectively. Interobserver reliability coefficients for trisomy 21 and trisomy 13/18 were 0.945 and 0.963 (p<0.001), respectively. CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrated quite high interobserver reliability for CRL measurement, while interobserver agreement for NT was lower. Despite this lower reliability and agreement for NT measurement, interobserver reliability for chromosomal abnormalities was quite high
