İnternet ve dijital teknolojilerin Web 2.0 devrimiyle yaratılan ve içerik oluşturmaya olanak sağlayan yeni sistemde kullanıcılara ortaklaşa paylaşımla sunulan ikinci nesil hizmetler, Türkiye gibi sosyal medya kullanım oranının yüksek olduğu ülkelerde tüketici davranışlarını doğrudan etkileyen iletişim ağlarının ve sosyal medya üzerinde gruplaşmaların oluşumuna zemin hazırlamıştır. Oluşan yeni iletişim ortamında, kamuoyu yargılarının rasyonellikten uzaklaşarak duygulardan ve kişisel kanaatlerden etkilenmesi sonucunda popülaritesi artan ve Oxford sözlükleri tarafından 2016 yılının kelimesi seçilen Post-Truth kavramı günlük yaşamda tüketici davranışlarını etkileyen ve kontrol edilmesi güç bir etken haline gelmiştir. Bu çalışmada, Post-Truth medyanın 18-34 yaş aralığı olarak belirlenen “Genç Yetişkinler” segmentindeki kullanıcıların tüketim davranışları üzerindeki etkisini belirlemeye yönelik odak grup çalışması yapılmış, Post-Truth kavramının ve Post-Truth medyanın artan önemi üzerinde durularak tüketici davranışları üzerindeki etkisi ortaya konulmuştur. Araştırma bulguları; tüketicilerin sadık oldukları markalar hakkında yapılan PostTruth haberlere itibar etmediklerini, aynı durumu ve haberi, haber kaynağının kendi siyasi görüşlerine uygun olup olmamasına göre farklı şekillerde yorumladıklarını, PostTruth haberlerin genellikle siyasi tabanlı olarak algılanması nedeniyle işletmelerin PostTruth medyadan etkilenmemeleri için belirli bir siyasi görüş ile ilişkilendirilen sosyal medya kanallarını ve etkinliklerini tercih etmemeleri gerektiğini ortaya koymuştur. In the new system created by the Web 2.0 revolution of Internet and digital Technologies and enabling content creation, the second generation of services offered by jointly sharing has laid the ground for its formation of communication networks that directly affect consumer behavior and grouping on social media in countries with high rate of social media usage such as Turkey. In the new communication environment, the concept of Post-Truth, which has become popular as a result of the fact that public judgements affected by emotions and personal convictions away from rationality and has been choosen as the Word of 2016 by Oxford Dictionaries, has become a factor that affects consumer behavior and difficult to control in daily life. In this study, focus group interviews was conducted to determine the effect of Post-Truth media on consumption behaviors of the “Young Adults” segment which was determined as the 18-34 age range, and the effect of Post-Truth concept and Post-Truth media on consumer behavior was emphasized. Research findings point out that; consumers do not respect the Post-Truth news about the brands they are loyal to and that they interpret the same situation and news in different ways depending on whether or not the news source is compatible with their own political views, businesses should not prefer the social media channels and activities associated with a particular political view in order not to be affected by the Post-Truth media because of the fact that Post-Truth news is generally perceived as political-based

A CdZnTe based semiconductor X-ray detector (XRD) and its associated readout electronics has been developed by the Space Systems Design and Testing Laboratory of Istanbul Technical University and the High Energy Astrophysics Detector Laboratory of Sabanci University along with an SME partner. The XRD will be the secondary science mission on board BeEagleSat, which is developed as one of the double CubeSats for the QB50 project. QB50 is a European Framework 7 project carried out by a number of international organizations led by the von Karman Institute of Belgium. The heart of the XRD is a 2.5 mm thick, 15 mm x 15 mm CdZnTe crystal with orthogonal electrode strips on top and bottom for position resolution on the crystal. There are 3 sets of steering electrodes in between anodes. A commercial off the shelf (COTS) high voltage source provides necessary potential difference to transport electrons and holes towards electrodes. The signals from each strip are read by a COTS ASIC, RENA-3b, controlled my MSP 430. The XRD board (single ~10 cm x 10 cm board) also carries the necessary power regulators and 7 COTS batteries. In a previous paper presented at the IAC 2014, we discussed the main design of the XRD and provided results from some of the early vibration tests of the mechanical design. At the time, the CdZnTe crystal has not been attached, and the readout electronics and software were still in development phase. In this paper, we present the laboratory performance of the electronic readout system and discuss the current phase of the XRD development

Reconstruction of Huge Cutaneous Defects of Thoracic Large Meningomyelocele: A Technical Note

    Get PDF
In meningomyelocele (MMC) cases, postnatal sac repair and repairment of overlying tissue defect in early period is a challenging surgical process. Infection control, hemodynamic follow-up and selection of the appropriate reconstruction technique are important. Repairment of thoracolumbar huge defects is extremely difficult due to the anomalies of adjacent bony and soft tissues. The aim of the study is to report the method of repairment of the thoracolumbar huge defect in a patient with a large MMC and also to review the options of repairment of such defects and to provide a common surgical discipline. A term newborn with a mainly thoracic large MMC, 10x15 cm in size, was operated on the 5th postpartum day. After the excision of MMC and repairment of neural tube, operation was performed for the closure of skin defect. Tissue defect was reconstructed with a Z advancement-rotation flap. There were no early or late complications after the operation. We concluded that the repairment of the defects with flaps after giant MMC excisions in a single-session reduces the morbidity

A CdZnTe based semiconductor X-ray detector (XRD) and its associated readout electronics is developed by the Space Systems Design Laboratory of Istanbul Technical University and High Energy Astrophysics Detector Laboratory of Sabanci University along with an SME partner. The detector will utilize 30 orthogonal cross strip electrodes (and 3 steering electrodes in between anodes) whose geometry is optimized by an extensive set of simulations and energy resolution measurements. The signals will be read by RENA 3b ASIC controlled by MSP 430 microcontroller. The system will have its own battery and will be turned on intermittently due to power constraints. CdZnTe based X-ray detectors have been utilized in space, but they are either pixellated (NuStar), or they consist of many individual crystal pieces (BAT in Swift satellite). The aim of the XRD is to show that large volume crystals with orthogonal strips are viable alternatives, especially for small satellite systems with medium energy resolution requirement. XRD will also characterize the hard X-ray background in 20-200 keV at low Earth orbit conditions as a function of altitude. Due to power and telemetry constraints, the individual events will be corrected for hole trapping on-board, histogrammed, and only the X-ray spectra will be transmitted to the ground station along with a small set of raw data for diagnostic purposes. The XRD is planned to travel into space, as a secondary science mission, on board BeEaglesat which is a 2U CubeSat developed as one of the possible double (2U) CubeSats for the QB50 project. QB50 is a European Framework 7 (FP7) project carried out by a number of international organizations led by the von Karman Institute of Belgium. Its main scientific objective is to study in situ the temporal and spatial variations of a number of key constituents and parameters in the lower thermosphere with a network of about 50 double and triple CubeSats, separated by few hundred kilometers and carrying a determined set of sensors

    Get PDF
Background/aim: Ischemia on the colon wall negatively affects healing of anastomosis. We were aimed to evaluate the effects of carbon monoxide releasing molecule-2 (CORM-2) on the healing of anastomosis in a rat model of the ischemic colon. Materials and methods: In this prospective study a total of 60 rats were randomly divided into three groups as colon transection and end-to-end anastomosis (Group I), colon transection, and end-to-end anastomosis following the induction of ischemia (Group II), and colon transection and end-to-end anastomosis following the induction of ischemia and treated with daily intraperitoneal administration of CORM-2 (Group III). Each group was also divided into two equal subgroups as postoperative 3rd and 7th day. Postoperative healing of anastomoses was evaluated by anastomosis burst pressure (ABP), tissue biomarkers including hydroxyproline (HP), malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), and histopathological findings. Results: In the ischemic group treated with CORM-2, lower MDA and higher HP levels were observed in comparison to the untreated ischemic group on the 3rd day. GSH and HP levels were higher and MDA levels was lower in the ischemic rats treated with CORM-2 than in the ischemic untreated rats on the 7th day. In the ischemic group treated with CORM-2, the mucosal epithelial score decreased and the neoangiogenesis score increased compared to the untreated rats on the 7th day. Conclusion: In ischemic colon anastomosis, reduces cell destruction by suppressing the oxidative reaction, and strengthening the antioxidative mechanisms of the cells. It also increases collagen formation, epithelial development, and neoangiogenesis

    Get PDF
Aims: Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by telangiectasia, epistaxis, and vascular malformations. Pathogenic mutations were found in ENG, AVCRL1, SMAD4, and GDF genes. In this study, we present our database of patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia regarding the phenotype-genotype relations and discuss two novel ENG gene pathogenic variations in two unrelated families. Methods: Next Generation Sequencing analysis was performed on the peripheral blood of nine patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia in four unrelated families. All patients were diagnosed with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia according to the Curaçao criteria. Data on treatment and screenings of visceral involvement were recorded from files. Results: We have found a pathogenic variation in either the ENG or ACVRL1 gene in each family. Two novel pathogenic variations in the ENG gene, including NM_000118.3 (ENG): c.416delC (p.P139fs*24) and NM_000118.3(ENG): c.1139dupT (p.Leu380PhefsTer16), were found in the same family. The NM_000020.2(ACVRL1): c.1298C>T (p.Pro433Leu) pathogenic variation in the ACVRL1 gene in our first family and a novel heterozygous likely pathogenic NM_000020.2(ACVRL1): c.95T>C (p.Val32Ala) variation was found in our second family. Seven of the nine patients were treated with thalidomide for controlling bleeding episodes. All patients responded to thalidomide. In one patient, the response to thalidomide was lost and switched to bevacizumab. Conclusion: In hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, certain types of mutations correlate with disease phenotypes and with next generation sequencing methods. New pathogenic variations can be revealed, which might help manage patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasi
