Effects of Anomalous Magnetic Moment in the Quantum Motion of Neutral Particle in Magnetic and Electric Fields Produced by a Linear Source in a Conical Spacetime

Lateral projection as a possible explanation of the nontrivial boundary dependence of the Casimir force
We find the lateral projection of the Casimir force for a configuration of a
sphere above a corrugated plate. This force tends to change the sphere position
in the direction of a nearest corrugation maximum. The probability distribution
describing different positions of a sphere above a corrugated plate is
suggested which is fitted well with experimental data demonstrating the
nontrivial boundary dependence of the Casimir force.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figur
Thermal correction to the Casimir force, radiative heat transfer, and an experiment
The low-temperature asymptotic expressions for the Casimir interaction
between two real metals described by Leontovich surface impedance are obtained
in the framework of thermal quantum field theory. It is shown that the Casimir
entropy computed using the impedance of infrared optics vanishes in the limit
of zero temperature. By contrast, the Casimir entropy computed using the
impedance of the Drude model attains at zero temperature a positive value which
depends on the parameters of a system, i.e., the Nernst heat theorem is
violated. Thus, the impedance of infrared optics withstands the thermodynamic
test, whereas the impedance of the Drude model does not. We also perform a
phenomenological analysis of the thermal Casimir force and of the radiative
heat transfer through a vacuum gap between real metal plates. The
characterization of a metal by means of the Leontovich impedance of the Drude
model is shown to be inconsistent with experiment at separations of a few
hundred nanometers. A modification of the impedance of infrared optics is
suggested taking into account relaxation processes. The power of radiative heat
transfer predicted from this impedance is several times less than previous
predictions due to different contributions from the transverse electric
evanescent waves. The physical meaning of low frequencies in the Lifshitz
formula is discussed. It is concluded that new measurements of radiative heat
transfer are required to find out the adequate description of a metal in the

Spherically symmetric vacuum solutions of modified gravity theory in higher dimensions
In this paper we investigate spherically symmetric vacuum solutions of
gravity in a higher dimensional spacetime. With this objective we construct a
system of non-linear differential equations, whose solutions depend on the
explicit form assumed for the function . We explicit
show that for specific classes of this function exact solutions from the field
equations are obtained; also we find approximated results for the metric tensor

Fungal diversity notes 1512-1610: taxonomic and phylogenetic contributions on genera and species of fungal taxa
This article is the 14th in the Fungal Diversity Notes series, wherein we report 98 taxa distributed in two phyla, seven classes, 26 orders and 50 families which are described and illustrated. Taxa in this study were collected from Australia, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Chile, China, Cyprus, Egypt, France, French Guiana, India, Indonesia, Italy, Laos, Mexico, Russia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam. There are 59 new taxa, 39 new hosts and new geographical distributions with one new combination. An updated, accurate and timely report of fungus-host and fungus-geography is important. We also provide an updated list of fungal taxa published in the previous fungal diversity notes. In this list, erroneous taxa and synonyms are marked and corrected accordingly

Austin & Staples, do semi-árido paraibano Evaluation of antibacterial activity and phytochemical prospection of Solanum paniculatum Lam. and Operculina hamiltonii (G. Don) D. F. Austin & Staples from the semi-arid region of Paraíba State, Brazil
Devido ao aparecimento de populações de parasitos resistentes, as drogas farmacêuticas, alternativas de controle, estão sendo pesquisadas utilizando plantas medicinais. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a atividade antibacteriana e realizar a análise fitoquímica do extrato etanólico de duas espécies do semi-árido paraibano, Solanum paniculatum Lam. e Operculina hamiltonii (G. Don) D. F. Austin & Staples. As referidas espécies são muito utilizadas pela população rural contra verminoses gastrintestinais de ovinos. A prospecção fitoquímica foi obtida a partir dos extratos etanólicos para análise dos constituintes químicos existentes nas duas espécies. As análises dos extratos indicaram a presença de taninos flobabênicos, flavononóis, flavononas e alcalóides em ambas as espécies. A atividade antibacteriana foi determinada inicialmente pelo método de difusão em cavidade. A espécie S. paniculatum apresentou atividade contra Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 12692), Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922) e Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 15442), no entanto O. hamintonii não demonstrou atividade contra as linhagens bacterianas testadas.The emergence of resistant parasite populations has led to the study of pharmaceutical drugs, which represent an alternative control. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity and to perform the phytochemical analysis of the ethanol extract from two species belonging to the semi-arid region of Paraíba State, Brazil: Solanum paniculatum Lam. and Operculina hamiltonii (G. Don) D. F. Austin & Staples. Such species have been largely used by the rural population against ovine gastrointestinal helminthes. Phytochemical prospection was obtained from ethanol extracts for analysis of chemical compounds present in both species. Extract analyses indicated the presence of condensed tannins, flavonols, flavanones, and alkaloids in both species. The antibacterial activity was initially determined by the cavity method. The species S. paniculatum had activity against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 12692), Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 15442); however, O. hamintonii did not present activity against the tested bacterial strains
Nootkatone Inhibits Acute and Chronic Inflammatory Responses in Mice
Nootkatone (NTK) is a sesquiterpenoid found in essential oils of many species of Citrus (Rutaceae). Considering previous reports demonstrating that NTK inhibited inflammatory signaling pathways, this study aimed to investigate the effects of this compound in mice models of acute and chronic inflammation. Murine models of paw edema induced by carrageenan, dextran, histamine, and arachidonic acid, as well as carrageenan-induced peritonitis and pleurisy, were used to evaluate the effects of NTK on acute inflammation. A murine model of granuloma induced by cotton pellets was used to access the impact of NTK treatment on chronic inflammation. In the acute inflammation models, NTK demonstrated antiedematogenic effects and inhibited leukocyte recruitment, which was associated with decreased vascular permeability, inhibition of myeloperoxidase (MPO), interleukin (IL)1-\u3b2, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-\u3b1 production. In silico analysis suggest that NTZ anti-inflammatory effects may also occur due to inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 activity and antagonism of the histamine receptor type 1 (H1). These mechanisms might have contributed to the reduction of granuloma weight and protein concentration in the homogenates, observed in the chronic inflammation model. In conclusion, NTK exerted anti-inflammatory effects that are associated with inhibition of IL1-\u3b2 and TNF-\u3b1 production, possibly due to inhibition of COX-2 activity and antagonism of the H1 receptor. However, further studies are required to characterize the effects of this compound on chronic inflammation
Fermionic current induced by magnetic flux in compactified cosmic string spacetime
In this paper, we investigate the fermionic current densities induced by a
magnetic flux running along the idealized cosmic string in a four-dimensional
spacetime, admitting that the coordinate along the string's axis is
compactified. In order to develop this investigation we construct the complete
set of fermionic mode functions obeying a general quasiperiodicity condition
along the compactified dimension. The vacuum expectation value of the azimuthal
current density is decomposed into two parts. The first one corresponds to the
uncompactified cosmic string geometry and the second one is the correction
induced by the compactification. For the first part we provide a closed
expression which includes various special cases previously discussed in the
literature. The second part is an odd periodic function of the magnetic flux
along the string axis with the period equal to the flux quantum and it is an
even function of the magnetic flux enclosed by the string axis. The
compactification of the cosmic string axis in combination with the
quasiperiodicity condition leads to the nonzero axial current density. The
latter is an even periodic function of the magnetic flux along the string axis
and an odd periodic function of the magnetic flux enclosed by the string axis.
The axial current density vanishes for untwisted and twisted fields in the
absence of the magnetic flux enclosed by the string axis. The asymptotic
behavior of the vacuum fermionic current is investigated near the string and at
large distances from it. In particular, the topological part of the azimuthal
