Heavy-flavour and quarkonium measurements in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt(sNN) = 2.76 TeV with ALICE
International audienceWe report on the latest results on heavy-flavour and J/ production at both midrapidity and forward rapidity, in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt (sNN) = 2.76 TeV, measured with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. We present measurements of the nuclear modification factor for open heavy-flavours and J/psi and compare these results to model predictions. Preliminary results on the elliptic flow of D mesons and J/psi are discussed

Modelling of precipitation during friction stir welding of an Al-Mg-Si alloy
In this study, microstructural evolution in AA 6082-T651 friction stir welds is simulated using a metallurgical model coupling a Monte Carlo random sampling technique and classical nucleation and growth theory. The calculated volume fraction and size distribution of precipitates are used to predict hardness. Some of the model parameters are calibrated from microstructure and hardness data available in the open literature. Temperature and hardness data in the region of the weld are obtained from FSW experiments. The temperature in the weld is predicted by finite element analysis, with a simplified thermo-mechanical approach, after calibration of heat transfer parameters in order to match the temperature measurements. The calculated thermal cycles are then applied to the metallurgical model. The subsequently predicted hardness profiles across the weld are then compared with experimental data
Xiaohong Xiao-Planes, Éducation et politique en Chine : le rôle des élites du Jiangsu, 1905-1914 (Education and Politics in China—The Role of the Jiangsu Elite, 1905-1914)
Over the last thirty years, many works, both Chinese and foreign, have been devoted to the reformist activities of notables from various Chinese provinces during the last half-century of the Qing dynasty, particularly during the period 1901-12. These books have also covered the different forms of associations that these elite organised themselves into in order to increase the efficiency of their actions and their ability to negotiate with the imperial administration. In the general hubbub of ..
D meson nuclear modification factors in Pb-Pb collisions at {\surd}sNN = 2.76 TeV, measured with the ALICE detector
The ALICE experiment has measured the D meson production in pp and Pb-Pb
collisions at the LHC at {\surd}s = 7 and 2.76 TeV and {\surd}sNN = 2.76 TeV
respectively, via the exclusive reconstruction of hadronic decay channels. The
analyses of the D0{\to}K-pi+ and D+{\to}K-pi+pi+ channels will be described and
the preliminary results for the D0 and D+ nuclear modification factor will be
presented.Comment: Proceedings of Quark Matter 2011 conference. 4 pages, 4 figures. The

Asymmetric Colliding Nuclear Matter Approach in Heavy Ion Collisions
The early stage of a heavy ion collision is governed by local non-equilibrium
momentum distributions which have been approximated by colliding nuclear matter
configurations, i.e. by two Lorentz elongated Fermi ellipsoids. This approach
has been extended from the previous assumption of symmetric systems to
asymmetric 2-Fermi sphere configurations, i.e. to different densities. This
provides a smoother transition from the limiting situation of two
interpenetrating currents to an equilibrated system. The model is applied to
the dynamical situations of heavy ion collisions at intermediate energies
within the framework of relativistic transport (RBUU) calculations. We find
that the extended colliding nuclear matter approach is more appropriate to
describe collective reaction dynamics in terms of flow observables, in
particular, for the elliptic flow at low energies.Comment: 21 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in Nuclear Physics
Heavy-flavour production in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC, measured with the ALICE detector
We present the first results from the ALICE experiment on the nuclear
modification factors for heavy-flavour hadron production in Pb-Pb collisions at
sqrt{s_NN}=2.76 TeV. Using proton-proton and lead-lead collision samples at
sqrt{s}=7 TeV and sqrt{s_NN}=2.76 TeV, respectively, nuclear modification
factors R_AA(pt) were measured for D mesons at central rapidity (via displaced
decay vertex reconstruction), and for electrons and muons, at central and
forward rapidity, respectively.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, plenary talk at Quark Matter 2011, Annecy, Franc
