Structure function of a damped harmonic oscillator
Following the Caldeira-Leggett approach to describe dissipative quantum
systems the structure function for a harmonic oscillator with Ohmic dissipation
is evaluated by an analytic continuation from euclidean to real time. The
analytic properties of the Fourier transform of the structure function with
respect to the energy transfer (the ``characteristic function'') are studied
and utilized. In the one-parameter model of Ohmic dissipation we show
explicitly that the broadening of excited states increases with the state
number without violating sum rules. Analytic and numerical results suggest that
this is a phenomenologically relevant, consistent model to include the coupling
of a single (sub-)nuclear particle to unobserved and complex degrees of
freedom.Comment: 23 pages, 5 figures, RevTex4, minor changes following referee's

Electroweak Precision Observables within a Fourth Generation Model with General Flavour Structure
We calculate the contributions to electroweak precision observables (EWPOs)
due to a fourth generation of fermions with the most general (quark-)flavour
structure (but assuming Dirac neutrinos and a trivial flavour structure in the
lepton sector). The new-physics contributions to the EWPOs are calculated at
one-loop order using automated tools (FeynArts/FormCalc). No further
approximations are made in our calculation. We discuss the size of non-oblique
contributions arising from Z--quark--anti-quark vertex corrections and the
dependence of the EWPOs on all CKM mixing angles involving the fourth
generation. We find that the electroweak precision observables are sensitive to
two of the fourth-generation mixing angles and that the corresponding
constraints on these angles are competitive with those obtained from flavour
physics. For non-trivial 4x4 flavour structures, the non-oblique contributions
lead to relative corrections of several permille and should be included in a
global fit
Two-loop electroweak fermionic corrections to sin^2 theta_{eff}^{b anti-b}
We present the first calculation of the two-loop electroweak fermionic
correction to the flavour-dependent effective weak-mixing angle for bottom
quarks, sin^2 theta_{eff}^{b anti-b}. For the evaluation of the missing
two-loop vertex diagrams, two methods are employed, one based on a
semi-numerical Bernstein-Tkachov algorithm and the second on asymptotic
expansions in the large top-quark mass. A third method based on dispersion
relations is used for checking the basic loop integrals. We find that for small
Higgs-boson mass values, M_H ~ 100 GeV, the correction is sizable, of order
O(10^{-4}).Comment: 17 pages, 2 figures, references added, accepted for publication in

Measurement of \Gamma_{ee}(J/\psi)*Br(J/\psi->e^+e^-) and \Gamma_{ee}(J/\psi)*Br(J/\psi->\mu^+\mu^-)
The products of the electron width of the J/\psi meson and the branching
fraction of its decays to the lepton pairs were measured using data from the
KEDR experiment at the VEPP-4M electron-positron collider. The results are
\Gamma_{ee}(J/\psi)*Br(J/\psi->e^+e^-)=(0.3323\pm0.0064\pm0.0048) keV,
\Gamma_{ee}(J/\psi)*Br(J/\psi->\mu^+\mu^-)=(0.3318\pm0.0052\pm0.0063) keV.
Their combinations
\Gamma_{ee}\times(\Gamma_{ee}+\Gamma_{\mu\mu})/\Gamma=(0.6641\pm0.0082\pm0.0100)
keV,
\Gamma_{ee}/\Gamma_{\mu\mu}=1.002\pm0.021\pm0.013 can be used to improve
theaccuracy of the leptonic and full widths and test leptonic universality.
Assuming e\mu universality and using the world average value of the lepton
branching fraction, we also determine the leptonic \Gamma_{ll}=5.59\pm0.12 keV
and total \Gamma=94.1\pm2.7 keV widths of the J/\psi meson.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure
High-statistics measurement of the pion form factor in the rho-meson energy range with the CMD-2 detector
We present a measurement of the pion form factor based on e+e- annihilation
data from the CMD-2 detector in the energy range 0.6<sqrt(s)<1.0 GeV with a
systematic uncertainty of 0.8%. A data sample is five times larger than that
used in our previous measurement.Comment: 18 pages, 10 figures. Added comparison with KLOE measurement, minor

Magnetic Oscillations in Dense Cold Quark Matter with Four-Fermion Interactions
The phase structures of Nambu-Jona-Lasinio models with one or two flavours
have been investigated at non-zero values of and , where is an
external magnetic field and is the chemical potential. In the phase
portraits of both models there arise infinitely many massless chirally
symmetric phases, as well as massive ones with spontaneously broken chiral
invariance, reflecting the existence of infinitely many Landau levels. Phase
transitions of first and second orders and a lot of tricritical points have
been shown to exist in phase diagrams. In the massless case, such a phase
structure leads unavoidably to the standard van Alphen-de Haas magnetic
oscillations of some thermodynamical quantities, including magnetization,
pressure and particle density. In the massive case we have found an oscillating
behaviour not only for thermodynamical quantities, but also for a dynamical
quantity as the quark mass. Besides, in this case we have non-standard, i.e.
non-periodic, magnetic oscillations, since the frequency of oscillations is an
-dependent quantity.Comment: latex, 29 pages, 8 figure
Measurement of main parameters of the \psi(2S) resonance
A high-precision determination of the main parameters of the \psi(2S)
resonance has been performed with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e^{+}e^{-}
collider in three scans of the \psi(2S) -- \psi(3770) energy range. Fitting the
energy dependence of the multihadron cross section in the vicinity of the
\psi(2S) we obtained the mass value
M = 3686.114 +- 0.007 +- 0.011 ^{+0.002}_{-0.012} MeV and the product of the
electron partial width by the branching fraction into hadrons \Gamma_{ee}*B_{h}
= 2.233 +- 0.015 +- 0.037 +- 0.020 keV.
The third error quoted is an estimate of the model dependence of the result
due to assumptions on the interference effects in the cross section of the
single-photon e^{+}e^{-} annihilation to hadrons explicitly considered in this
work.
Implicitly, the same assumptions were employed to obtain the charmonium
leptonic width and the absolute branching fractions in many experiments.
Using the result presented and the world average values of the electron and
hadron branching fractions, one obtains the electron partial width and the
total width of the \psi(2S):
\Gamma_{ee} =2.282 +- 0.015 +- 0.038 +- 0.021 keV,
\Gamma = 296 +- 2 +- 8 +- 3 keV.
These results are consistent with and more than two times more precise than
any of the previous experiments
Measurement of e+e- -> pi+pi- cross section with CMD-2 around rho-meson
The cross section of the process e+e- -> pi+pi- has been measured using about
114000 events collected by the CMD-2 detector at the VEPP-2M e+e- collider in
the center-of-mass energy range from 0.61 to 0.96 GeV. Results of the pion form
factor determination with a 0.6% systematic uncertainty are presented.
Implications for the hadronic contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic
moment are discussed.Comment: 17 pages, 4 figures, submitted to PL
First experimental results obtained using the highpower free electron laser at the siberian center for photochemical research
The first lasing near the wavelength of 140 µm was achieved in April 2003 using a high-power free electron laser (FEL) constructed at the Siberian Center for Photochemical Research. In this paper we briefly describe the design of the FEL driven by an accelerator–recuperator. Characteristics of the electron beam and terahertz laser radiation, obtained in the first experiments, are also presented in the paper.У Сибірському центрі фотохімічних досліджень навесні 2003 року отримана генерація випромінювання з довжиною хвилі 140 мкм на потужному лазері на вільних електронах (ЛВЕ).
