    Soft gluons in Higgs plus two jet production

    We investigate the effects of an all order QCD resummation of soft gluon emissions for Higgs boson production in association with two hard jets. We consider both the gluon-gluon fusion and weak boson fusion processes and show how to resum a large part of the leading logarithms in the jet veto scale. Our resummation improves on previous analyses which also aim to include the effects of multiple soft gluon radiation. In addition we calculate the interference between weak boson fusion and gluon-gluon fusion and find that it is small.Comment: 15 pages and 5 figure

    Rapidity-Separation Dependence and the Large Next-to-Leading Corrections to the BFKL Equation

    Recent concerns about the very large next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) corrections to the BFKL equation are addressed by the introduction of a physical rapidity-separation parameter Δ\Delta. At the leading logarithm (LL) this parameter enforces the constraint that successive emitted gluons have a minimum separation in rapidity, yi+1yi>Δy_{i+1}-y_i>\Delta. The most significant effect is to reduce the BFKL Pomeron intercept from the standard result as Δ\Delta is increased from 0 (standard BFKL). At NLL this Δ\Delta-dependence is compensated by a modification of the BFKL kernel, such that the total dependence on Δ\Delta is formally next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic. In this formulation, as long as Δ2.2\Delta\gtrsim2.2 (for αs=0.15\alpha_{s}=0.15): (i) the NLL BFKL pomeron intercept is stable with respect to variations of Δ\Delta, and (ii) the NLL correction is small compared to the LL result.     Multi-Regge kinematics and the moduli space of Riemann spheres with marked points

    We show that scattering amplitudes in planar N = 4 Super Yang-Mills in multi-Regge kinematics can naturally be expressed in terms of single-valued iterated integrals on the moduli space of Riemann spheres with marked points. As a consequence, scattering amplitudes in this limit can be expressed as convolutions that can easily be computed using Stokes' theorem. We apply this framework to MHV amplitudes to leading-logarithmic accuracy (LLA), and we prove that at L loops all MHV amplitudes are determined by amplitudes with up to L + 4 external legs. We also investigate non-MHV amplitudes, and we show that they can be obtained by convoluting the MHV results with a certain helicity flip kernel. We classify all leading singularities that appear at LLA in the Regge limit for arbitrary helicity configurations and any number of external legs. Finally, we use our new framework to obtain explicit analytic results at LLA for all MHV amplitudes up to five loops and all non-MHV amplitudes with up to eight external legs and four loops.Comment: 104 pages, six awesome figures and ancillary files containing the results in Mathematica forma

    Observable jets from the BFKL chain

    We derive a modified form of the BFKL equation which enables the structure of the gluon emissions to be studied in small xx deep inelastic scattering. The equation incorporates the resummation of the virtual and unresolved real gluon emissions. We solve the equation to calculate the number of small xx deep-inelastic events containing 0,1,2 ...resolved gluon jets, that is jets with transverse momenta qT>μq_{T} > \mu.     The Momentum Kernel of Gauge and Gravity Theories

    We derive an explicit formula for factorizing an nn-point closed string amplitude into open string amplitudes. Our results are phrased in terms of a momentum kernel which in the limit of infinite string tension reduces to the corresponding field theory kernel. The same momentum kernel encodes the monodromy relations which lead to the minimal basis of color-ordered amplitudes in Yang-Mills theory. There are interesting consequences of the momentum kernel pertaining to soft limits of amplitudes. We also comment on surprising links between gravity and certain combinations of kinematic and color factors in gauge theory.Comment: 19 pages, 1 figur

    Collinear and Soft Limits of Multi-Loop Integrands in N=4 Yang-Mills

    It has been argued in arXiv:1112.6432 that the planar four-point integrand in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory is uniquely determined by dual conformal invariance together with the absence of a double pole in the integrand of the logarithm in the limit as a loop integration variable becomes collinear with an external momentum. In this paper we reformulate this condition in a simple way in terms of the amplitude itself, rather than its logarithm, and verify that it holds for two- and three-loop MHV integrands for n>4. We investigate the extent to which this collinear constraint and a constraint on the soft behavior of integrands can be used to determine integrands. We find an interesting complementarity whereby the soft constraint becomes stronger while the collinear constraint becomes weaker at larger n. For certain reasonable choices of basis at two and three loops the two constraints in unison appear strong enough to determine MHV integrands uniquely for all n.Comment: 27 pages, 14 figures; v2: very minor change

    We discuss the inclusive cross section to produce two minijets with a large separation in rapidity in high energy hadronic collisions. The contribution to the inclusive cross section from the exchange of a BFKL Pomeron is compared with the contribution from the exchange of two BFKL Pomerons, which is induced by the unitarization of the semi-hard interaction.
