The paper analyses the institute of compensation for wrongful conviction and deprivation of liberty in the common law legal systems. It points to the basic difference in approach between common law legal systems and civil law legal systems laws on this issue, where the common law regimes are much more restrictive. It analysed the specifics of the rules on compensation for damages in common law, which can have a negative impact on eligibility for damages to wrongfully convicted persons. The paper specially investigated under which conditions it is possible to achieve compensation for wrongful conviction from the state, as a rule, in the regime of non-legally binding payments, and, exceptionally, in a separate legal regime established by law. &nbsp

Beside standard procedure for stability design of structural elements in compression, bending, as well in compression and bending, Eurocode 3 offers posibility to make these calculations using finit element method through general method for lateral and lateral torsional buckling of structural elements. In this paper general method for lateral and lateral torsional buckling of structural elements is presented. Also, there is numerical example whose results are compared with results of Eurocodes alternative procedures and JUS

Is hail suppression useful in Serbia? – General review and new results

    Get PDF
Anthropogenic influence on weather has been increasingly published and discussed in the last decades. Climate changes caused by inadvertent anthropogenic influence are well underway. Hail suppression, which has been proven to have no influence on weather, will be considered in the article. Even though hail suppression as scientifically ungrounded activity seemed to promise certain success several decades ago, it has spread over the whole territory of the Republic of Serbia after abundant experience, when many developed countries have given up on this activity. Reasons will be presented for the senselessness of hail suppression based on the latest research. By processing all hail data from the territory of Serbia in the period from 1967 to 2010, it was found out that the hail trend is rising which is in contrary to expectations and previous claims that hail suppression decreases hail frequency

Stainless steel cross-section resistance according to continuous strength method

    Get PDF
Continuous strength method is a contemporary approach to calculation of resistance of stainless steel cross-sections which has been recently developed at the Imperial College of London. The basis of the method is the continuous relation between the slenderness and strain capacity of a cross-section, nonlinear relation between the stress and strain and the strengthening effects of cold forming. In the paper are presented the fundamental rules for calculation of cross-section resistance according to continuous strength method; the comparative analysis of design resistance of the compressed cross-section was conducted through a numerical example according to this method and EN 1993-1-4

Antimicrobial growth promoters in feed - possibilities and necessity

    Get PDF
The attention of the scientific and professional communities, as well as of food consumers, has always been directed towards finding adequate nutritional strategies that could improve food production and safety. By using antibiotics as feed additives, farmers gained increased profits based on higher growth rates with better feed conversion and lower costs of therapeutic treatment. The quantities of antibiotics used as growth promoters for farm animals have been increasing constantly, but at the same time, the frequency of bacterial resistance to antibiotics and the presence of antibiotic residues in food have become a global problem. To eliminate or minimize these risks, on 1 January 2006, antibiotics were banned from use as additives in animal nutrition in the European Union. Accordingly, there is interest in developing new nutritional strategies that would support the function of the autochthonous microbiota in the animal gastrointestinal tract to control pathogenic bacteria. Probiotics, prebiotics, phytobiotics and feed enzymes are a new generation of growth promoters and largely achieve their effects by using the physiological mechanisms of animals and/or their intestinal microbiomes, enabling animals to completely fulfil their genetic potential with respect to production properties

Assessing average annual air temperature trends using the Mann–Kendall test in Kosovo

    Get PDF
The annual trends of surface mean monthly air temperature and monthly extreme temperatures were analyzed from ten meteorological stations in Kosovo. The data refer to observation periods between 1949 and 1999 for four stations, and observation periods between 1965 and 1999 for the remaining six stations. Trends were analyzed for nine time series. Positive trends were found in six series, and negative trends were found in three series. After an assessment of these trends using the Mann–Kendall test, positive trends were confirmed in four series, a negative trend was confirmed in one series, and in one series there was no trend, whereas trends were characterized as slightly positive in two time series and slightly negative in one series
