On timelike and spacelike hard exclusive reactions
We show to next-to-leading order accuracy in the strong coupling alpha_s how
the collinear factorization properties of QCD in the generalized Bjorken regime
relate exclusive amplitudes for spacelike and timelike hadronic processes. This
yields simple space--to--timelike relations linking the amplitudes for
electroproduction of a photon or meson to those for photo- or meso-production
of a lepton pair. These relations constitute a new test of the relevance of

Heat flow in the postquasistatic approximation
We apply the postquasistatic approximation to study the evolution of
spherically symmetric fluid distributions undergoing dissipation in the form of
radial heat flow. For a model which corresponds to an incompressible fluid
departing from the static equilibrium, it is not possible to go far from the
initial state after the emission of a small amount of energy. Initially
collapsing distributions of matter are not permitted. Emission of energy can be
considered as a mechanism to avoid the collapse. If the distribution collapses
initially and emits one hundredth of the initial mass only the outermost layers
evolve. For a model which corresponds to a highly compressed Fermi gas, only
the outermost shell can evolve with a shorter hydrodynamic time scale.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Observation of opto-mechanical multistability in a high Q torsion balance oscillator
We observe the opto-mechanical multistability of a macroscopic torsion
balance oscillator. The torsion oscillator forms the moving mirror of a
hemi-spherical laser light cavity. When a laser beam is coupled into this
cavity, the radiation pressure force of the intra-cavity beam adds to the
torsion wire's restoring force, forming an opto-mechanical potential. In the
absence of optical damping, up to 23 stable trapping regions were observed due
to local light potential minima over a range of 4 micrometer oscillator
displacement. Each of these trapping positions exhibits optical spring
properties. Hysteresis behavior between neighboring trapping positions is also
observed. We discuss the prospect of observing opto-mechanical stochastic
resonance, aiming at enhancing the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in gravity

SeaWiFS technical report series. Volume 5: Ocean optics protocols for SeaWiFS validation
Protocols are presented for measuring optical properties, and other environmental variables, to validate the radiometric performance of the Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS), and to develop and validate bio-optical algorithms for use with SeaWiFS data. The protocols are intended to establish foundations for a measurement strategy to verify the challenging SeaWiFS accuracy goals of 5 percent in water-leaving radiances and 35 percent in chlorophyll alpha concentration. The protocols first specify the variables which must be measured, and briefly review rationale. Subsequent chapters cover detailed protocols for instrument performance specifications, characterizing and calibration instruments, methods of making measurements in the field, and methods of data analysis. These protocols were developed at a workshop sponsored by the SeaWiFS Project Office (SPO) and held at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California (9-12 April, 1991). This report is the proceedings of that workshop, as interpreted and expanded by the authors and reviewed by workshop participants and other members of the bio-optical research community. The protocols are a first prescription to approach unprecedented measurement accuracies implied by the SeaWiFS goals, and research and development are needed to improve the state-of-the-art in specific areas. The protocols should be periodically revised to reflect technical advances during the SeaWiFS Project cycle
Parton Saturation-An Overview
The idea of partons and the utility of using light-cone gauge in QCD are
introduced. Saturation of quark and gluon distributions are discussed using
simple models and in a more general context. The Golec-Biernat W\usthoff model
and some simple phenomenology are described. A simple, but realistic, equation
for unitary, the Kovchegov equation, is discussed, and an elementary derivation

Gluon Distribution Functions for Very Large Nuclei at Small Transverse Momentum
We show that the gluon distribution function for very large nuclei may be
computed for small transverse momentum as correlation functions of an
ultraviolet finite two dimensional Euclidean field theory. This computation is
valid to all orders in the density of partons per unit area, but to lowest
order in . The gluon distribution function is proportional to ,
and the effect of the finite density of partons is to modify the dependence on

Physical Properties of OSIRIS-REx Target Asteroid (101955) 1999 RQ36 derived from Herschel, ESO-VISIR and Spitzer observations
In September 2011, the Herschel Space Observatory performed an observation
campaign with the PACS photometer observing the asteroid (101955) 1999 RQ36 in
the far infrared. The Herschel observations were analysed, together with ESO
VLT-VISIR and Spitzer-IRS data, by means of a thermophysical model in order to
derive the physical properties of 1999 RQ36. We find the asteroid has an
effective diameter in the range 480 to 511 m, a slightly elongated shape with a
semi-major axis ratio of a/b=1.04, a geometric albedo of 0.045 +0.015/-0.012,
and a retrograde rotation with a spin vector between -70 and -90 deg ecliptic
latitude. The thermal emission at wavelengths below 12 micron -originating in
the hot sub-solar region- shows that there may be large variations in roughness
on the surface along the equatorial zone of 1999 RQ36, but further measurements
are required for final proof. We determine that the asteroid has a
disk-averaged thermal inertia of Gamma = 650 Jm-2s-0.5K-1 with a 3-sigma
confidence range of 350 to 950 Jm-2s-0.5K-1, equivalent to what is observed for
25143 Itokawa and suggestive that 1999 RQ36 has a similar surface texture and
may also be a rubble-pile in nature. The low albedo indicates that 1999 RQ36
very likely contains primitive volatile-rich material, consistent with its
spectral type, and that it is an ideal target for the OSIRIS-REx sample return

Sudbury project (University of Muenster-Ontario Geological Survey): Field studies 1984-1989 - summary of results
In cooperation between the Ontario Geological Survey and the Institute of Geology and Institute of Planetology, geological, petrological, and geochemical studies were carried out on impact-related phenomena of the Sudbury structure during the last decade. The main results of the field studies are briefly reviewed. Footwall rocks, sublayer, and lower sections of the Sudbury Igneous Complex (SIC) were mainly mapped and sampled in the northern (Levack Township) and western (Trillabelle and Sultana Properties) parts of the north range. Within these mapping areas Sudbury Breccias (SB) and Footwall Breccias (FB) were studied; SB were also investigated along extended profiles beyond the north and south ranges up to 55 km from the SIC. The Onaping Formation (OF) and the upper section of the SIC were studied both in the north range (Morgan and Dowling Townships) and in the southern east range (Capreol and McLennan Townships)
Color Transparency at COMPASS energies
Pionic quasielastic knockout of protons from nuclei at 200 GeV show very
large effects of color transparency as -t increases from 0 to several GeV^2.
