Determination of S17(0) from published data
The experimental landscape for the 7Be+p radiative capture reaction is
rapidly changing as new high precision data become available. We present an
evaluation of existing data, detailing the treatment of systematic errors and
discrepancies, and show how they constrain the astrophysical S factor (S17),
independent of any nuclear structure model. With theoretical models robustly
determining the behavior of the sub-threshold pole, the extrapolation error can
be reduced and a constraint placed on the slope of S17. Using only radiative
capture data, we find S17(0) = 20.7 +/- 0.6 (stat) +/- 1.0 (syst) eV b if data
sets are completely independent, while if data sets are completely correlated
we find S17(0) = 21.4 +/- 0.5 (stat) +/- 1.4 (syst) eV b. The truth likely lies
somewhere in between these two limits. Although we employ a formalism capable
of treating discrepant data, we note that the central value of the S factor is
dominated by the recent high precision data of Junghans et al., which imply a
substantially higher value than other radiative capture and indirect
measurements. Therefore we conclude that further progress will require new high

Cooperating Agents for 3D Scientific Data Interpretation
Many organizations collect vast quantities of three-dimensional (3-D) scientific data in volumetric form for a range of purposes, including resource exploration, market forecasting, and process modelling. Traditionally, these data have been interpreted by human experts with only minimal software assistance. However, such manual interpretation is a painstakingly slow and tedious process. Moreover, since interpretation involves subjective judgements and each interpreter has different scientific knowledge and experience, formulation of an effective interpretation often requires the cooperation of numerous such experts. Hence, there is a pressing need for a software system in which individual interpretations can be generated automatically and then refined through the use of cooperative reasoning and information sharing. To this end, a prototype system, SurfaceMapper, has been developed in which a community of cooperating software agents automatically locate and display interpretations in a volume of 3-D scientific data. The challenges and experiences in designing and building such a system are discussed. Particular emphasis is given to the agents' interactions and an empirical evaluation of the effectiveness of different cooperation strategies is presented
Multiple-Scattering Series For Color Transparency
Color transparency CT depends on the formation of a wavepacket of small
spatial extent. It is useful to interpret experimental searches for CT with a
multiple scattering scattering series based on wavepacket-nucleon scattering
instead of the standard one using nucleon-nucleon scattering. We develop
several new techniques which are valid for differing ranges of energy. These
techniques are applied to verify some early approximations; study new forms of
the wave-packet-nucleon interaction; examine effects of treating wave packets
of non-zero size; and predict the production of 's in electron scattering

Systematic Analysis Method for Color Transparency Experiments
We introduce a data analysis procedure for color transparency experiments
which is considerably less model dependent than the transparency ratio method.
The new method is based on fitting the shape of the A dependence of the nuclear
cross section at fixed momentum transfer to determine the effective attenuation
cross section for hadrons propagating through the nucleus. The procedure does
not require assumptions about the hard scattering rate inside the nuclear
medium. Instead, the hard scattering rate is deduced directly from the data.
The only theoretical input necessary is in modelling the attenuation due to the
nuclear medium, for which we use a simple exponential law. We apply this
procedure to the Brookhaven experiment of Carroll et al and find that it
clearly shows color transparency: the effective attenuation cross section in
events with momentum transfer is approximately $40\ mb\ (2.2\
GeV^2/Q^2)$. The fit to the data also supports the idea that the hard
scattering inside the nuclear medium is closer to perturbative QCD predictions
than is the scattering of isolated protons in free space. We also discuss the

Nucleon-nucleus optical potential in the particle-hole approach
Feshbach's projection formalism in the particle-hole model space leads to a
microscopic description of scattering in terms of the many-body self-energy. To
investigate the feasibility of this approach, an optical potential for O-16 is
constructed starting from two previous calculations of the self-energy for this
nucleus. The results reproduce the background phase shifts for positive parity
waves and the resonances beyond the mean field.
The latter can be computed microscopically for energies of astrophysical

Japanese Encephalitis Virus Isolated From Seven Species Of Mosquitoes Collected At Semarang Regency, Central Java
Suatu penelitian telah dilakukan untuk mengisolasi arbovirus dari nyamuk yang ditangkap dari rumah penduduk dan kandang ternak desa Susukan, kecamatan Ungaran, kabupaten Semarang. Pada periode penelitian yang dilakukan selama 2 tahun, isolasi virus hanya didapatkan pada bulan Januari dan Februari. Virus Japanese encephalitis (JEV) adalah satu-satunya virus yang dapat diisolasi. Mayoritas isolat JEV (72%) berasal dari nyamuk yang ditangkap di kandang ternak. Isolat JEV ini berusai dari 7 spesies nyamuk dengan frekuensi Culex quinquefasciatus yang paling tinggi (11.5%). Empat vektor JEV baru yang potensial di Indonesia adalah Cx.bitaeniorhynchus, Cx.quinquefasciatus, Anopheles kochi dan Armigeres subalbatus. Ini adalah laporan pertama tentang isolasi JEV dari An.kochi dan Ar.subalbatus di Asia
Product assurance technology for custom LSI/VLSI electronics
The technology for obtaining custom integrated circuits from CMOS-bulk silicon foundries using a universal set of layout rules is presented. The technical efforts were guided by the requirement to develop a 3 micron CMOS test chip for the Combined Release and Radiation Effects Satellite (CRRES). This chip contains both analog and digital circuits. The development employed all the elements required to obtain custom circuits from silicon foundries, including circuit design, foundry interfacing, circuit test, and circuit qualification
Sum Rule Description of Color Transparency
The assumption that a small point-like configuration does not interact with
nucleons leads to a new set of sum rules that are interpreted as models of the
baryon-nucleon interaction. These models are rendered semi-realistic by
requiring consistency with data for cross section fluctuations in proton-proton

Comparison of four-times-a-day and twice-a-day dosing regimens in subjects requiring 1200 μg or less of budesonide to control mild to moderate asthma
AbstractThe aim of this study was to compare the efficacy, compliance and side-effects of budesonide administered twice daily (b.d.) and four times a day (q.d.) with a Turbuhaler® device in asthmatic subjects requiring ≤ 1200 μg daily. The randomized, parallel group study design included a 2-week baseline period followed by a 6–12-month treatment period. Subjects were assessed at regular intervals in hospital through FEV1, PC20 methacholine, adrenal function and throat swabs. They were asked to record their symptoms and PEF values morning and evening at home. An asthmatic flare-up, which was the main outcome resulting in a patient's termination of the study, was defined beforehand as (a) 25% or greater diurnal variability in PEF for 2 consecutive days, and/or (b) nocturnal awakenings due to asthma symptoms 2 days or more in the same week and/or (c) an increase (doubling or more) in the need for inhaled bronchodilator 2 days in the same week.Fifty-eight adult asthmatic subjects (20 males and 38 females) entered the study, one-half being randomly assigned to the b.d. regimen and one-half to the q.d. regimen. Fourteen subjects were on 400 μg, 15 subjects on 800 μg and 29 subjects on 1200 μg of budesonide daily. Seventeen flare-ups were recorded in the b.d. regimen group as opposed to 11 in the q.d. regimen (P=0·05), significant differences being found in the 800 and 1200 μg groups (a total of 13 flare-ups in the b.d. group and eight flare-ups in the q.d. group for the two doses, P=0·01). Kaplan-Meier survival analysis yielded similar results. There was no significant difference in FEV1, PC20 or cortisol levels during the study on either regimen. Throat symptoms and growth of Candida albicans were more common in the q.d. group. Compliance assessed by the number of times the Turbuhaler® device was actuated was significantly better in the b.d. group (95%) as compared with the q.d. group (83%). To conclude, administering inhaled budesonide with a Turbuhaler® device on a q.d. basis results in fewer flare-ups in spite of less satisfactory compliance and more common, local side-effects than on a b.d. regimen at daily doses of 800 and 1200 μg
