Modified maximum force criterion, a model for the theoretical prediction of forming limit curves
In order to perform the theoretical evaluation of Forming Limit Curves (FLC), the Modified Maximum Force Criterion (MMFC) has been proposed. This paper investigates the mechanism of the fracture of ductile sheet metals and introduces the MMFC model. The evaluation process and the simplified formulations are presented. The influences of hardening behavior and the yield loci are discussed as well. Comparisons with the experimental data of different materials showed generally satisfactory agreemen
On the prediction of the curvature of cross roll straightened bars
A recently proposed procedure for the simulation of cross roll straightening allows to predict successfully the residual stress distribution in straightened bars as well as their yield stress. Although the procedure allows also to make predictions about the curvature of straightened bars, large discrepancies appear between predictions and exper- iments. The present study aims at understanding the causes of these deviations. The standard experimental setup for the measurement of curvature provides values on the assumption of a constant in-plane curvature. Using a modified procedure for the predic- tion of the curvature, this study shows that, according to the model, the curvature of straightened bars is not constant and not in-plane. The reason for the deviation observed between predictions and measurements is then obvious
Modelling of Dynamic Strain Aging with a Dislocation-Based Isotropic Hardening Model and Investigation of Orthogonal Loading
Based on experimental results, a dislocation material model describing the dynamic strain aging\ud
effect at different temperatures is presented. One and two stage loading tests were performed in\ud
order to investigate the influence of the loading direction as well as the temperature influence due\ud
to the hardening mechanism. Bergström’s theory of work hardening was used as a basis for the\ud
model development regarding the thermal isotropic behavior as well as the Chaboche model to\ud
describe the kinematic hardening. Both models were implemented in an in-house FE-Code in\ud
order to simulate the real processes. The present paper discusses two hardening mechanisms,\ud
where the first part deals with the pure isotropic hardening including dynamic strain aging and the\ud
second part involves the influence of the loading direction regarding combined (isotropic and\ud
kinematic) hardening behavior
ALS Longitudinal Studies With Frequent Data Collection at Home: Study Design and Baseline Data
Objective: To design an ALS clinical study in which patients are remotely recruited, screened, enrolled and then assessed via daily data collection at home by themselves or caregivers. Methods: This observational, natural-history study included two academic medical centers, one providing overall clinical management and the other overseeing computing and web-services design and management. Both healthy and ALS subjects were recruited on the Internet via advertisement on governmental and foundation websites as well as through Facebook and Google paid advertisements. Individuals underwent screening and enrollment remotely, including signing an electronic informed consent form. Participants were then provided self-measurement equipment and instructed on their use through a series of web-based videos. The equipment included a handgrip dynamometer, spirometer with smartphone connection, electrical impedance myography device, and an activity tracker. ALS Functional Rating Scale-Revised data were also collected. Subjects were asked to collect data daily for three months and twice-weekly for the subsequent six months. Results: One hundred and eleven ALS patients and 30 healthy individuals enrolled in the study from across 41 states (74 men, 62 women). Baseline median ALSFRS-R score was 33. Seventy two percent of the ALS patients sent equipment and 88% of the healthy subjects sent equipment were able to complete a first set of measurements. Expected baseline differences between the ALS patients and healthy participants were identified for all measures. Conclusions: It is possible to design and institute an at-home based study in ALS patients, using a number of state-of-the-art approaches, including web-based consenting and training and Internet-connected measurement devices
Microglia regulate chandelier cell axo-axonic synaptogenesis
SignificanceChandelier cells (ChCs) are a unique type of GABAergic interneuron that form axo-axonic synapses exclusively on the axon initial segment (AIS) of neocortical pyramidal neurons (PyNs), allowing them to exert powerful yet precise control over PyN firing and population output. The importance of proper ChC function is further underscored by the association of ChC connectivity defects with various neurological conditions. Despite this, the cellular mechanisms governing ChC axo-axonic synapse formation remain poorly understood. Here, we identify microglia as key regulators of ChC axonal morphogenesis and AIS synaptogenesis, and show that disease-induced aberrant microglial activation perturbs proper ChC synaptic development/connectivity in the neocortex. In doing so, such findings highlight the therapeutic potential of manipulating microglia to ensure proper brain wiring
Comparative study of inhibitory efficacy of methionine and its derivatives in acidic medium by mild steel
Corrosion inhibition effect of L-Methionine (MT1), L-Methionine sulfoxide (MT2) and L-Methionine sulfone (MT3) on mild steel corrosion in 1M HCl solution was studied by using weight loss, electrochemical polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. The experimental results showed that the inhibitory efficiency of the three aminoacids improves with the increase of concentration to reach the maximum value of 95.20% for MT1, 94.14% for MT2 and 88.92% for MT3 for a concentration of 10-3M, which translates that the surface covered by the inhibitor increases with the concentration. The effect of temperature on the corrosion rate was investigated and some thermodynamic parameters were calculated. Polarization studies show that three studied inhibitors suggested that three inhibitors control the anodic as well as cathodic reactions and act as mixed type in nature. The results show that MT1, MT2 and MT3 are good inhibitors, and the adsorption of each inhibitor on mild steel surface obeys Flory-Huggins and Langmuir, with a better fit of the Langmuir isotherm through mixed adsorption (physisorption as well as chemisorption) process. In addition, the quantum approach based on density functional theory (DFT), monte Carlo (MC) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations was confirmed the reactivity of the studied compound towards the corrosion process
Poststaphylococcal coagulase negative reactive arthritis: a case report
We report a case of a 49-year-old patient who developed poststaphylococcal coagulase negative reactive arthritis. The woman presented with constitutional symptoms, arthritis, urinary infection and conjunctivitis. The blood culture was positive for the staphylococcal coagulase negative infection. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein were elevated, whereas the rheumatoid factor was negative. Radiographic findings confirmed diagnosis of pleuropneumonia, and one year later of chronic asymmetric sacroileitis. Physicians should be aware of possible reactive arthritis after staphylococcal coagulase negative bacteremia
