    Linear Precoding for Broadcast Channels with Confidential Messages under Transmit-Side Channel Correlation

    In this paper, we analyze the performance of regularized channel inversion (RCI) precoding in multiple-input single-output (MISO) broadcast channels with confidential messages under transmit-side channel correlation. We derive a deterministic equivalent for the achievable per-user secrecy rate which is almost surely exact as the number of transmit antennas and the number of users grow to infinity in a fixed ratio, and we determine the optimal regularization parameter that maximizes the secrecy rate. Furthermore, we obtain deterministic equivalents for the secrecy rates achievable by: (i) zero forcing precoding and (ii) single user beamforming. The accuracy of our analysis is validated by simulations of finite-size systems.Comment: to appear IEEE Communications Letter

    The Socio-Cultural, Historical, and Political Allusions in the Translation of the Saudi National Day Poetry: “Peace, O Gracious King” as a Case Study

    The aim of this paper is to explore the cultural, social, political, and linguistic aspects of Saudi poems sung on patriotic occasions such as the Saudi National Day. The focus of the study will be on “Peace, O gracious King”, a poem composed by Dr. Abdulaziz Khuja and sung by the famous Saudi singer, Mohamed Abdu in 2010. The use of eulogy has a long tradition in Arabic poetry. It could be traced back to the classic ages. Classic Arab poets used to live on the eulogy’s bounty granted to them by rulers. For them, eulogy was both a means of surviving and to have the privileges of being close to the ruler. Furthermore, it was a way to fame and good reputation. The language of the song gains its power not only from its musicality and lyricism but also from its literariness and poeticness, the most obvious aspects of Abdul-Aziz Khuga’s songs. The song is written in al-fushā or what is known as the modern standard form of Arabic. Dr. Khuga, presently the Minister of Information and Culture in Saudi Arabia, is a Saudi poet. He is one of the contemporary poets who use standard Arabic to express the concerns of the Saudi people using simple language, though exceptionally of poetic and high style. It is a language that can be said to be appealing and accessible to a large audience in society. This language is set up to answer the new needs of the modern Saudi society. Khuga’s language has also managed to bring the audience closer to poetic songs, particularly the national ones. The poem/song is permeated by the age-old metaphor of the King as “pater patriae”; “father” to his subjects’ or “the father of the country”. The representation of the King as the nation’s father taking care of his subjects and having allegiance to the nation’s stability is a salient feature of national songs. In addition, the poet populates his song with other native traditional symbols – the palm tree is an example- that are rooted in the Saudi world and are reflective of its indigenous cultural experience. As will be shown in the discussion, the Saudi national culture, natural world, and common heritage are the sources for his material. He relies on the past experience of the Saudi people to express their present situation and future aspirations. A study of the local national poem/song examined here is meant to give readers a hint at: First, the Saudi notion of what a nation is. Second, the social, cultural, religious, historical, political and emotive implications of the song, and Third, the difficulties encountered when translating such a eulogizing poem/song into English and the procedures the translator should adopt to overcome such difficulties

    The purpose of this research is to know the influence of Ramadan Fasting towards blood sugar levels in diabetics in the health center in West Java of Purwakarta. The design of this research uses quasi experiment of pre and post test with the control group, the method uses Purposive sampling done by the sum of 36 samples of respondents. The results of this research are using Independent T-test fast differences in blood sugar levels after fasting Ramadaan in the control group and the intervention group obtained the value of p = 0.039 < α = 0.05. Conclusion the results of this study showed the presence of the influence of fasting of Ramadan towards blood sugar levels in type II diabetes mellitus patients in Healty Center of Purwakarta. It can be concluded that fasting during Ramadan can be used as an alternative diet method that has positive benefits if it is run by type II diabetes mellitus patients which can reduce blood sugar to be more stable.  Keywords: Ramadhan Fasting, Blood Glukose Level, Diabetic Mellitus Type I

    Trajectories Describing the Evolution of Polarized Light in Homogeneous Anisotropic Media and Liquid Crystals

    Trajectories are given that describe the evolution of the ellipse of polarization in the complex plane for light propagating in a homogeneous anisotropic medium and along the helical axis of a cholesteric liquid crystal. For the general homogeneous anisotropic medium that exhibits combined birefringence and dichroism the trajectory is a spiral that converges to the low-absorption eigenpolarization. For pure birefringence the trajectory becomes a complete circle that encloses one eigenpolarization, whereas for pure dichroism the trajectory becomes an arc of a circle that ends at the low-absorption eigenstate. The case of a cholesteric (or twisted nematic) liquid crystal leads to an interesting family of trajectories that can be considered as distorted hypo- or epicycloids. These trajectories are nonrepetitive (open) and may show multilobes or branches depending upon the initial polarization and the properties of the liquid crystal. Graphs are also presented where the ellipticity and azimuth are plotted separately as functions of distance along the helical axis

    Systemic, Institutional, and Teaching Factors in the Delivery of Interprofessional Education Curriculum in Canada

    The Canadian federal and several provincial governments are currently collaborating to establish ‘team-based’ primary healthcare—or interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP), which can be effectively accomplished when interprofessional education (IPE) is sustainably delivered by health and social care (HASC) professional education programs. Indeed, achieving the intended patient/client-oriented outcomes of IPE and subsequent IPCP requires deliberate and purposeful considerations of several systemic, institutional, and teaching factors. Regrettably, the analyses of the extent to which these factors have influenced effective IPCP is currently under-researched. In this integrated-article dissertation, we took a purposeful and systematic approach to explore the extent to which these multi-tiered factors influence effective IPCP in the Canadian context. First, we conducted a systematic review (Chapter 2) to familiarize ourselves with and explore when and where IPE has been implemented over the past decade (2010–2020). Next, we conducted a comparative document analysis (Chapter 3) of Canadian HASC professional accreditation standards documents, through which we evaluated the accountability of interprofessional-relevant accreditation standards―to which accrediting organizations can hold their respective academic programs accountable. These two research studies revealed three major research gaps: (1) that most IPE initiatives lacked use of theoretical/conceptual frameworks; (2) that the IPE-relevant accreditation standards overwhelmingly emphasized Students and Educational Program domains, thereby potentially compromising the sustainability of IPE; and (3) that longer IPE initiatives with greater intensity and more rigorous methodological and assessments methods are warranted. To address the first research gap, we present a conceptual paper (Chapter 4) in which we discussed the importance of curriculum and learning theories to HASC professional education processes and proposed a theoretical framework for productive engaged learning, through which IPE opportunities may be grounded. To address the second and third research gaps, we explored the integration of IPE curriculum models in the programmatic structures at four, large Canadian post-secondary institutions (Chapter 5). We further explored the enablers, barriers/challenges, limitations, and outcomes of these curriculum models, as perceived by IPE facilitators and preceptors and whether they truly lead to effective IPCP (Chapter 6). This research reinforces global and national efforts to promote sustainable IPE with aim to improve patient/client-centred care

    Experimental Polarization State Tomography using Optimal Polarimeters

    We report on the experimental implementation of a polarimeter based on a scheme known to be optimal for obtaining the polarization vector of ensembles of spin-1/2 quantum systems, and the alignment procedure for this polarimeter is discussed. We also show how to use this polarimeter to estimate the polarization state for identically prepared ensembles of single photons and photon pairs and extend the method to obtain the density matrix for generic multi-photon states. State reconstruction and performance of the polarimeter is illustrated by actual measurements on identically prepared ensembles of single photons and polarization entangled photon pairs
