    Tamil language consists of three categories namely Unit, Music Drama. Drama is known as the queen of arts. The drama is very ancient and unique. Drama is a combination of both Unit, Music and performed as a story. The performing arts are narrative based and include street dance, archery, puppet show, costume dance, drama, and liturgical dance. Today, both the words ‘drama’ and koothu have different meanings. The songs have increased, the prose has improved, and the facilities like stage decoration have decreased is Koothu. The drama is full of facilities like songs, prose, beautiful stage, sound, light etc. Drama was considered as a branch of Koothu. Narrators say that drama is a story-driven speech. Drama is the change and development of Ku in the post 19th century period. Associate teachers were given as theater actors and professors of drama. It can be seen that the names of Koothu are given as Rama Drama Siruthondar drama, Arichandra drama. The development of street play is drama. Koothu are performed in the open air in villages and are performed for the people by folk artists. This can also be considered as rural drama. It can be seen that the drama, which first started as a street play, then turned into a stage play and developed into a literary play, has evolved and progressed and the old traditional folk plays are dying out. A song from natrinai paalai song 9 is mentioned as an example here to prove about mans trust on God due to his need. There is no known reason for the beliefs that have arisen in human life. Man was afraid of the obstacles, diseases and problems he encountered in his life. Hope was born as a result. He started doing many remedies based on faith to solve a problem. After that, he performed many rituals like sacrifices as a way of making amends to God. By doing so he was confident that everything would be fine. Through performances, rituals and ceremonies, the people of the country get what they want by begging or making amends with their faith In God. Thus in this article we can see what are the beliefs of the country people through the play performed in Thirukalyana Matha Shrine

    IN VITRO ANTIOXIDANT AND ANTICANCER ACTIVITY OF ULVA LACTUCA L.USING MOLT-3 CELL LINE

    Objective: The aim of the present investigation was to determine the in vitro antioxidant and anticancer activity of the ethanol extract of Ulva lactuca L. Methods: The present study was to investigate the antioxidant and anticancer activity of U. lactuca L. The extract of U. lactuca L. was extracted by ethanol and subject to analysis. An in vitro antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of U. lactuca L. was performed by 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl free radical scavenging assay. Simultaneously anticancer activity was also performed using blood cancer (MOLT-3) cell line, and the species showed a strong selective cell proliferation inhibition of the cancer cell line. Results: The scavenging activity was measured and determined to be 78.5%. This might be due to high polyphenolic compounds and flavonoid contents of the extract, which showed maximum growth inhibition of 74.4%. Conclusion: Thus, the study concludes that the constituents of seaweeds can act as potent in treating various diseases and can be used as an alternative for therapeutic treatment

    THERMOSENSITIVE HYDROGELS–A POTENTIAL CARRIER FOR THE DELIVERY OF DRUGS AND MACROMOLECULES

    In this review, the authors have discussed scientific advances in thermosensitive hydrogels over the past two decades. The ability of the thermo-sensitive hydrogel to undergo rapid changes with response to temperature makes it an attractive candidate for many biomedical applications such as targeted drug delivery, wound healing, soft contact lenses, sensors, tissue regeneration, gene, and protein delivery. This review aims to deliver a brief overview of gelation properties, merits, and demerits of various natural and synthetic thermo-sensitive polymers that have significant clinical relevance. The report emphasizes the importance of injectable thermosensitive hydrogels, as it can offer improved solubility of hydrophobic drugs and site-specificity, extended-release of drugs and macromolecules, improved safety, and local administration of drugs. The authors has also provided a commentary on the delivery of drugs or macromolecules from thermo-sensitive hydrogels through various approaches. This review highlights the current status of research in thermo-sensitive hydrogels and emphasizes the importance of developing nontoxic thermo-sensitive hydrogels, dual responsive, and multi-responsive hydrogel systems

    Prevalence of Cutaneous Side Effects of Lithium Therapy in Bipolar Affective Disorder Patients: A Prospective Observational study

    BACKGROUND: The prevalence of lithium induced skin reactions ranges from 3- 45% in various studies. Cutaneous side effects occurs when the dose of lithium 800-1200, on therapeutic level (0.8 -1.2meq/l) and when lithium is given for the longer duration (more than 1 year). OBJECTIVES: 1. To assess the prevalence of skin reactions in Bipolar affective disorder (BPAD) patients on lithium. 2. To evaluate the relationship between the dosage of lithium and cutaneous side effects. 3.To assess the relationship between serum lithium level and cutaneous side effect. 4. To evaluate the duration of lithium therapy and cutaneous side effects. 5. To assess the reduction or stoppage of dose of lithium has any change in the course of cutaneous side effects. 6.To assess the course of pre-existing skin reactions, when patient is initiated on lithium therapy. METHODOLOGY: Prospective observational study. Both Inpatient and outpatients with bipolar affective disorder on lithium therapy were recruited. They were assessed with initial semistructured proforma and dermatologist opinion obtained for patients who developed cutaneous side effects. They were followed up for once a month for 6 months and once in 2 months thereafter for 1 year. RESULT: The prevalence of lithium induced skin reactions was 38.46%. Our study has shown different dosage and serum lithium level doesn’t correlate statistically with lithium induced skin reaction but longer the duration more is the chance for lithium induced cutaneous side effects. CONCLUSION: Prevalence of Lithium induced skin lesions continues to be high. Clinician should educate the patient before initiating lithium to improve the attrition rate. Prevalence doesn’t vary between the dosage and serum lithium level, but varies with duration of lithium therapy. Hence, the clinician need not be ambivalent about reducing the dose but should be cautious on prolonged treatment

    ESTIMATION OF ANTI-INFLAMMATORY ACTIVITY AS WELL AS APOPTOTIC ACTIVITY OF ETHANOLIC EXTRACTS OF CROCUS SATIVUS

    Objective:  Inflammation is a body reaction which embroils cellular and biochemical responses, which is not only symptom for shared diseases but also known to be an initial phase for certain serious Alzheimer’s, cancer, heart vascular diseases. In order to overcome these drawbacks, there is an urgent need for nutraceuticals with excellent anti-inflammatory response with minimum side effects. An attempt has been made to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity along with gene expression analysis on ethanolic extracts of Crocus sativus (CSEE). Methods: Dried stigmas of C. sativus were analyzed for anti-inflammatory activity by macrophage scavenging assay. In this study, the phagocytic activity of the extract was tested on oxidative burst reduction of macrophages. RT-PCR was performed to analyze the anti-apoptotic gene expression during cell death, as a result of the compound treatment on cancer cells. Results:  The CSEE unveiled high phagocytic activity on the oxidative burst reduction, presenting intracellular killing and the enhancement of lysosomal enzyme activity, showing the active degranulation of macrophages. Conclusion: These findings suggest that C. sativus possessed excellent anti-inflammatory as well as apoptotic activities. Hence it was proposed that C. sativus could be exploited against oxidative stress, anti-inflammatory, cancer and ageing therapy to justify their use in traditional medicine as a nutraceutical.                           Peer Review History: Received 3 December 2018;   Revised 18 December; Accepted 1 January, Available online 15 January 2019 Academic Editor: Dr. Marwa A.     Cure from the rhizomes: the medicine behind the Indian saffron Curcumin

    Indian system of medicine has always focused on cure from the nature. Plant products from the Indian household have been used as medicine to cure myriad of ailments since ancestral times. Curcumin is a polyphenol, an active ingredient found in turmeric. In Southeast Asia, turmeric has been used as a coloring, flavoring and as a therapeutic agent. The use of turmeric to treat ailments dates back to the times of Charaka and Shushrutha. It has been widely used as an antiseptic for cuts, burns, and bruises, and as an antibacterial agent. Modern medicine has begun to understand its importance in recent times. Unfortunately its poor solubility, limited absorption and enhanced metabolism limits its bioavailability for its extended therapeutic use. Integration of nanotechnology in drug design and development has led the way to development of nanocurcumin with improved pharmacological properties. A precise understanding of effective dose, safety, and mechanism of action is required for the rational use of turmeric in the treatment of human diseases.     Efficient in vitro organogenesis and plantlets regeneration in sesame (Sesamum indicum L.)-an important oilseed crop

    The regeneration methods in Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) already developed were genotype dependent and were unsuccessful for Indian cultivars. Hence, an efficient protocol for in vitro organogenesis and plant regeneration in sesame was attempted with TMV 3 cultivar. Immature cotyledons derived from 1-week old seedlings were cultured on MS (Murashige and Shoog) medium fortified with different concentrations of 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP), thidiazuran (TDZ) and kinetin for adventitious shoot induction. It was found that optimal medium for direct shoot formation was MS with BAP (2.0 mg/l) at a frequency of 74% with an average of 4.5 shoots per expalnt. The shoot regeneration frequency was significantly reduced with either TDZ or kinetin when compared with BAP alone. Elongated individual shoots were transferred on MS media supplemented with Indole Butyric Acid (IBA; 0.5 mg/l) showed rooting frequency of 70%. The rooted plantlets were acclimatized to potting mixture containing sand, soil and clay mixture and grown to maturity with survival rate of 65 %. No phenotypic aberrations were observed among the ex vitro transferred plantlets. The protocol described here assures a high frequency of shoot regeneration, root induction and also plant survival rate

    Pain management is an all-time challenge in dentistry. Discontent to pain management is a concern among patients and professionals. Unrelieved pain affects physical and mental well-being contributing to delayed recovery, psychological distress and anxiety. Studies have revealed that chronic pain interferes with normal daily chores of the individual like exercise, sleep, social life and lifestyle. At one end of pain management spectrum are Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) while at the other end are the opioids. These drugs are not without constituent side effects. The quest is for new analgesics with potent and long term analgesia with minimal or no side effects. An analgesic that is intermediate in this spectrum is the need of the hour. Opiorphin is an endogenous peptide isolated from human saliva. Opiorphin produces analgesia, by inhibiting enkephalin (ENK) metabolizing enzymes, thus increasing the half-life of circulating ENKs. Apart from being a potent analgesic it can also be a potential biomarker for various systemic and psychosocial disorders.
