Background: Rapid weight loss (RWL) is commonly practiced in combat sports. Both magnitude and methods used to induce RWL are largely similar among combat sports, but currently, there is no data on RWL methodology used by sambo athletes. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine RWL procedures sambo athletes apply to lose weight rapidly. Methods: The sample consisted of 199 participants, of which 132 males and 67 females who participated in the World Sambo Championship 2020 held in Novi Sad, Serbia. Each participant received RWL questionnaire that was available in multiple languages, and every participant was instructed how to fill it out. Results: Almost 87% of sambo participants declared to have intentionally cut their weight prior to the competition, whereby 5.27 kg (SD: ±7.57) was lost. Gradual dieting, sauna use and skipping meals were the most dominant methods used to reduce weight prior to competition while more extreme methods of RWL such as the use of laxatives, diuretics, diet pills and vomiting were also implemented but by much smaller fragment of the participants involved. Conclusions: Findings from our study largely match with previously conducted RWL studies in terms of prevalence, magnitude and methods used by combat sport athletes, especially in judo and wrestling. Knowing the hazardous consequences of RWL, alternative methods of sustainable weight loss should be considered

Essential competencies in prescribing : A first european cross-sectional study among 895 final-year medical students

European medical students should have acquired adequate prescribing competencies before graduation, but it is not known whether this is the case. In this international multicenter study, we evaluated the essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes in clinical pharmacology and therapeutics (CPT) of final-year medical students across Europe. In a cross-sectional design, 26 medical schools from 17 European countries were asked to administer a standardized assessment and questionnaire to 50 final-year students. Although there were differences between schools, our results show an overall lack of essential prescribing competencies among final-year students in Europe. Students had a poor knowledge of drug interactions and contraindications, and chose inappropriate therapies for common diseases or made prescribing errors. Our results suggest that undergraduate teaching in CPT is inadequate in many European schools, leading to incompetent prescribers and potentially unsafe patient care. A European core curriculum with clear learning outcomes and assessments should be urgently developed

Stability and Release Kinetics of an Advanced Gliclazide-Cholic Acid Formulation: The Use of Artificial-Cell Microencapsulation in Slow Release Targeted Oral Delivery of Antidiabetics

Introduction: In previous studies carried out in our laboratory, a bile acid (BA) formulation exerted a hypoglycaemic effect in a rat model of type-1 diabetes (T1D). When the antidiabetic drug gliclazide (G) was added to the bile acid, it augmented the hypoglycaemic effect. In a recent study, we designed a new formulation of gliclazide-cholic acid (G-CA), with good structural properties, excipient compatibility and exhibits pseudoplastic-thixotropic characteristics. The aim of this study is to test the slow release and pH-controlled properties of this new formulation. The aim is also to examine the effect of CA on G release kinetics at various pH values and different temperatures. Method: Microencapsulation was carried out using our Buchi-based microencapsulating system developed in our laboratory. Using sodium alginate (SA) polymer, both formulations were prepared: G-SA (control) and G-CA-SA (test) at a constant ratio (1:3:30), respectively. Microcapsules were examined for efficiency, size, release kinetics, stability and swelling studies at pH 1.5, pH 3, pH 7.4 and pH 7.8 and temperatures of 20 and 30 °C. Results: The new formulation is further optimised by the addition of CA. CA reduced microcapsule swelling of the microcapsules at pH 7.8 and pH 3 at 30 °C and pH 3 at 20 °C, and, even though microcapsule size remains similar after CA addition, percent G release was enhanced at high pH values (pH 7.4 and pH 7.8, p < 0.01). Conclusion: The new formulation exhibits colon-targeted delivery and the addition of CA prolonged G release suggesting its suitability for the sustained and targeted delivery of G and CA to the lower intestine

Stylocentrism as a Method of the Cultural Studies

The article deals with the formation of a poly stylistic, ludic national style as an universal structure. Due to the proposed method of stylocentrism and to a new philosophical-anthropological definition of style as a materialized understanding of the world and of theatre as an art of the individual, the author rejects the imitative-fragmentary model of development of national performance and dramatic culture, instead proposing for the first time a conception of its organicity and continuity. An essential element of this scholarly study is the development of semiotic, reception-theory, psychoanalytic, and hermeneutic. The originality of this conception stems from its new definition of style and overcoming mythologizing and populism in the interpretation of Ukrainian performance and theatrical culture, broadening its temporal limits. In her innovative methodological approaches, the author takes into account the works of national and foreign scholars, encouraging the return of Ukrainian culture to the European context and enhancing the vitality of the unique Ukrainian ludic polystylism.

A model of buyer-supplier relationships in a transnational company : the role of the business network context

The paradigmatic shiftin marketing from the beginning of the 1990's has transformed the study of economic exchange, towards addressing more the relational aspects of these exchanges, where relationship specificity has replaced transaction specificity. This is particularly true in transnational supply exchanges, where specialization and outsourcing have increased the importance of effective and efficient management of buyer-supplier relationships, and their corresponding networks in which they are embedded in. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impact of selected dimensions of buyer-supplier relationships within a specific TNC business-to-business (B2B) setting on supply relationship performance from the suppliers' perspective. The paper analyzes the impact of the functional aspect of the business network context on selected elements of buyer-supplier relationships, particular in terms of the impact on business performance. This is analyzed within a confirmatory testing of a reflective structural equation model. A unique feature of the model is its focus on the business network, which is operationalized through 2 dimensions, which are related to (a) network-based information and (b) network spillover effects, as key determinants of the "traditional" elements of buyer-supplier relationships (i.e. transaction-specific investments, trust, flexibility, and joint actions). The dataset includes a sample of 157 suppliers of the focal TNC world-wide (47.9 response rate on a web-based survey). In the end, the paper provides a series of managerial implications to be considered, focusing on the so called network management perspective and the role of a wider business network context

© 2015 University of Kragujevac, Faculty of Science. All right reserved. Secondary haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (SHFLH) is a rare, potentially fatal disorder, most commonly caused by the Epstein–Barr virus. It is characterized by neoplastic proliferation of cells that belong to the monocyte–macrophage system and by varied clinical expression. A girl aged 3 years and 7 months was hospitalized due to continuing high febricity, yellow skin colouring, hepatosplenomegaly and cytopenia in a complete blood count (CBC). Four weeks before hospitalization, she had a lacunar angina and lymphadenopathy. A low number of erythrocytes, leukocytes and thrombocytes were noted in CBC, with anaemia and the presence of virocytes in a peripheral blood smear. Biochemical blood analyses indicated hyperbilirubinaemia, increased values of transaminases, lactic dehydrogenase, ferritin, triglycerides, D-dimer, acceleration of the activated partial thromboplastin time and decreased values of fibrinogen, with increased values of C-reactive protein and procalcitonin. Using an ultrasound examination of the abdomen, hepatosplenomegaly was perceived; using echocardiographic examination, pericardium layering was noticed; and using a roentgen graphic picture of the lungs, the presence of pleural effusion was detected. In a bone marrow biopsy, the percentage of blasts did not exceed 25%, and rare chemophagocytes were noticed. Using serologic tests, positivity to Epstein-Barr virus in IgM class was demonstrated. According to the criteria by Histiocyte Society, there were sufficient criteria to establish a diagnosis of SHFLH. With the exception of symptomatic therapies, according to the protocol for SHFLH treatment, a double antibiotic therapy and IV immunoglobulins were given, to which the patient responded with a clinical and laboratory recovery. Therefore, there was no demand for a treatment protocol with cytostatics or bone marrow transplantation. To resolve a differential diagnosis dilemma in solving cases of uncertain febrile neutropenia
