Medical Image Compression using Lifting based New Wavelet Transforms

    Get PDF
In this paper, the construction of new lifting based wavelets by a new method of calculating lifting coefficients is presented. First of all, new basis functions are utilized to ease new orthogonal traditional wavelets. Then by using the decomposing poly-phase matrix the lifting steps are calculated using a simplified method. The interesting feature of lifting scheme is that the construction of wavelet is derived in spatial domain only; hence the difficulty in the design of traditional wavelets is avoided. Lifting scheme was used to generate second generation wavelets which are not necessarily translation and dilation of one particular function. Short and sharp basis functions are chosen so as to obtain the non-uniform nature of usual image classes. Implemented wavelets are applied on a number of medical images. It was found that the compression ratio (CR) and Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) are far ahead of that are obtained with the popular traditional wavelets as well as the successful 5/3 and 9/7 lifting based wavelets. Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Trees (SPIHT) is used to incorporate compression.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i5.596

Design an efficient method for the synthesis of 2-(1,3-diphenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazole

A simple, highly efficient and environmentally friendly method has been developed for the synthesis of 2-(1,3-diphenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazole by using  Gadolinium(III) trifluoromethanesulfonate catalyst and ethanol reflux reaction conditions  By using this method. 12 new 2-(1,3-diphenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazole derivatives were synthesized under optimized reactions conditions. All these new products structures are confirmed by spectral analysis. By this method, we achieved imidazole derivatives with more operational simplicity, short reaction time and good yields (up to 85%). &nbsp

Performance Comparison between Nonidentical Segmented Exponential Concave and Nonidentical Segmented Exponential Convex Serrated CATRs

This paper presented a theoretical and numerical assessment for nonidentical segmented exponential- (NISE-) convex and NISE-concave serrated plane CATRs by changing number of serrations. The investigation was based on diffraction theory and, more specifically, on the diffraction formulation of Fresnel. The compact antenna test range (CATR) provides uniform illumination within the Fresnel region to the test antenna. Application of serrated edges has been shown to be a good method to control diffraction at the edges of the reflectors. In this paper, the Fresnel fields of NISE-convex and NISE-concave serrated CATRs are analyzed using physical optics (PO) technique. The PO analysis is applied in this paper for plane reflector serrated CATR only. The same analysis is applied to any type of reflector. In this paper, lens-based reflector is not considered. It is observed that NISE-concave serrated CATR gives less ripple and enhanced quiet zone width than NISE-convex

Chemical composition of essential oils of garlic (Allium sativum L.)

Six varieties of garlic grown in different geographical locations in Gujarat, India were analysed for their proximate composition including volatile oil content. Twenty nine compounds were identified in the volatile oils by gas chromatography and gas chromatography - mass spectrometry, among which 15 were new compounds hitherto not reported to be components of garlic. The relative concentrations of 13 major components in the volatile oils of all six varieties are also presented. &nbsp

NEW BACTERIA FORAGING AND PARTICLE SWARM HYBRID ALGORITHM FOR MEDICAL IMAGE COMPRESSION

For perfect diagnosis of brain tumour, it is necessary to identify tumour affected regions in the brain in MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) images effectively and compression of these images for transmission over a communication channel at high speed with better visual quality to the experts. An attempt has been made in this paper for identifying tumour regions with optimal thresholds which are optimized with the proposed Hybrid Bacteria Foraging Optimization Algorithm (BFOA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) named (HBFOA-PSO) by maximizing the Renyi’s entropy and Kapur’s entropy. BFOA may be trapped into local optimal problem and delay in execution time (convergence time) because of random chemo taxis steps in the procedure of algorithm and to get global solution, a theory of swarming is commenced in the structure of HBFOA-PSO. Effectiveness of this HBFOA-PSO is evaluated on six different MRI images of brain with tumours and proved to be better in Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), Mean Square Error (MSE) and Fitness Function

Investigating the Performance of Routing Protocols Using Quantitative Metrics in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

    Get PDF
ABSTRACT: Mobile ad hoc network is a collection of wireless mobile nodes which are capable of exchanging information dynamically among themselves without the need of any fixed infrastructure. Inorder to transfer data among these mobile nodes, the process of routing is adopted, which makes use of a routing protocol inorder to select a path along the mobile nodes in the network, through which data packets are sent. Due to dynamic nature of mobile ad hoc networks, links setup between the mobile nodes break most frequently and hence a routing protocol must be efficient enough in handling such situations and should deliver better performance in every aspect. In this paper, the performance of three routing protocols AODV, DSDV and DSR has been analysed using Network Simulator-2. Their performance is evaluated using Quantitative metrics -packet delivery ratio, average end-to-end delay, normalized routing load and jitter by varying node density and node mobility. The simulation results the routing protocol which gives better performance in various scenarios

Esters of petroselinic acid containing Trachyspermum copticum seed oil: Potential industrial lubricant base stocks

    Get PDF
126-134Trachyspermum copticum seed oil contains volatile oil rich in thymol, which is distilled out and used for medicinal and aromatic formulations. The seed powder after removal of the volatiles loses its importance. However, the fixed oil being rich in unsaturation with petroselinic acid (18:1, Δ6; 68.3%) and linoleic acid (18:2; 25.3%) is used for preparing biolubricant base stocks. Methyl, isopropyl and 2-ethyl hexyl esters of the oil have been converted to epoxides, followed by in situ hydroxylation and acylation using hexanoic and butyric anhydrides. The acylated products have been evaluated for lubricant properties, and are found to exhibit density (0.91-0.97 g/cc); viscosity of 23.5-27.3 cSt at 40°C and 4.85-5.33 cSt at 100°C. The values are comparable to jatropha acylated products. The products exhibited good copper corrosion resistance value of ‘1a’ and high flash points of 230-242°C. The acylated esters with good weld load behavior, and lower wear and pour point values and viscosity indices, 128.84-138.94, can be potential base stocks belonging to group III category lubricants with ISO VG Grade about 22. These products can be further explored for the preparation of hydraulic, metal working and other industrial fluid formulations

With the increasing demand for fish as human food, aquaculture both in freshwater and salt water is rapidly developing over the world. In the developing countries, fishes are being raised as food. In many countries fish farming is a very important economic activity. The most recent branch, mariculture, has shown advances in raising fishes in brackish, estuarine and bay waters, in which marine, anadromous and catadromous fishes have successfully been grown and maintained
