    La création, Bois dormant, met en scène un charpentier-ébéniste qui consacre tous ses temps libres à la création de mobilier, dans un cycle de production inutile. Sa dilapidation insensée de bois incite la nature à se révolter contre lui et à propager une énergie qui donne vie à tous les objets de sa maison. Ce conte revisite plusieurs contes (La Barbe bleue, Les Aventures de Pinocchio, Otesánek, La Belle au bois dormant, Les Aventures d’Alice au pays des merveilles, Cendrillon) pour les transformer en cauchemar, en effriter les morales, en décupler les cruautés et en utiliser les motifs pour illustrer l’absurdité du monde moderne. Ce conte-Frankenstein, par son esthétique baroque où prime la parenthèse, fait de la surenchère un reflet de la surconsommation. L’essai, La réécriture féministe contemporaine de quatre contes dans Putain, de Nelly Arcan et Peau d’âne, de Christine Angot, explore comment, par les réécritures qu’ils inspirent, les contes de Perrault et des frères Grimm constituent un puissant matériau d’incarnation qui facilite la venue à l’écriture du traumatisme chez Christine Angot et Nelly Arcan, mais qui sert aussi d’outil de dénonciation féministe pour elles. Dans Putain, de Nelly Arcan, la narratrice met en lumière, par des réinterprétations des contes du Petit Chaperon rouge, de La Belle au bois dormant et de Blanche-Neige, différents aspects de sa détresse face à l’oppression du regard masculin. Quant à Christine Angot, dans Peau d’âne, elle propose, par une réécriture du conte de Peau d’âne en parallèle avec celui de La Belle au bois dormant, de révéler les répercussions perverses des dictats de la mode et de la loi du père sur l’identité de la femme. Toutes ces réécritures permettent de déjouer la logique valorisée par les contes et d’en démontrer l’absurdité et le caractère malsain d’un point de vue féministe.The tale entitled Bois dormant features a carpenter/cabinetmaker who spends all his free time building furniture in a cycle of useless production. This meaningless waste of wood causes nature to rise up against him, spreading an energy that brings life to all the objects in his house. This story revisits several fairytales (Blue Beard, The Adventures of Pinocchio, Otesánek, Sleeping Beauty, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Cinderella) and turns them into nightmares, grinding down their morals, heightening their cruelty and using their patterns to illustrate the absurdity of the modern world. This Frankenstein narrative, with its baroque-like aesthetics and abounding parentheses, uses overstatement as a reflection of over-consumerism. The essay entitled La réécriture féministe contemporaine de quatre contes dans Putain de Nelly Arcan et Peau d’âne de Christine Angot explores how, through the rewritings they inspire, Perrault’s and Grimm’s fairytales form a powerful medium for incarnation that gives rise to the writing of trauma for Christine Angot and Nelly Arcan, but also serves as a tool for their feminist criticism. In Putain, by Nelly Arcan, the narrator reinterprets the stories of The Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White to bring to light different aspects of her struggle against the male gaze oppression. As for Christine Angot, by rewriting Peau d’âne in parallel with Sleeping Beauty, she intends to reveal the adverse effects of fashion’s dictatorship and of the father’s law on the feminine identity. All these new versions help overthrow the logic put forward by these fairytales, exposing their absurdity and twisted nature from a feminist point of view

    Cyclotron Production and PET/MR Imaging of 52Mn

    Introduction The goal of this work is to advance the production and use of 52Mn (t½ = 5.6 d, β+: 242 keV, 29.6%) as a radioisotope for in vivo preclinical nuclear imaging. More specifically, the aims of this study were: (1) to measure the excitation function for the natCr(p,n)52Mn reaction at low energies to verify past results [1–4]; (2) to measure binding constants of Mn(II) to aid the design of a method for isolation of Mn from an irradiated Cr target via ion-exchange chromatography, building upon previously published methods [1,2,5–7]; and (3) to perform phantom imaging by positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance (PET/MR) imaging with 52Mn and non-radioactive Mn(II), since Mn has potential dual-modality benefits that are beginning to be investigated [8]. Material and Methods Thin foils of Cr metal are not available commercially, so we fabricated these in a manner similar to that reported by Tanaka and Furukawa [9]. natCr was electroplated onto Cu discs in an industrial-scale electroplating bath, and then the Cu backing was digested by nitric acid (HNO3). The remaining thin Cr discs (~1 cm diameter) were weighed to determine their thickness (~ 75–85 μm) and arranged into stacked foil targets, along with ~25 μm thick Cu monitor foils. These targets were bombarded with ~15 MeV protons for 1–2 min at ~1–2 μA from a CS-15 cyclotron (The Cyclotron Corporation, Berkeley, CA, USA). The beamline was perpendicular to the foils, which were held in a machined 6061-T6 aluminum alloy target holder. The target holder was mounted in a solid target station with front cooling by a jet of He gas and rear cooling by circulating chilled water (T ≈ 2–5 °C). Following bombardment, these targets were disassembled and the radioisotope products in each foil were counted using a high-purity Ge (HPGe) detector. Cross-sections were calculated for the natCr(p,n)52Mn reaction. Binding constants of Mn(II) were measured by incubating 54Mn(II) (t½ = 312 d) dichloride with anion- or cation-exchange resin (AG 1-X8 (Cl− form) or AG 50W-X8 (H+ form), respectively; both: 200–400 mesh; Bio-Rad, Hercules, CA) in hydrochloric acid (HCl) ranging from 10 mM-8 M (anion-exchange) and from 1 mM-1 M (cation-exchange) or in sulfuric acid (H2SO4) ranging from 10 mM-8 M on cation-exchange resin only. The amount of unbound 54Mn(II) was measured using a gamma counter, and binding constants (KD) were calculated for the various concentrations on both types of ion-exchange resin. We have used the unseparated product for preliminary PET and PET/MR imaging. natCr metal was bombarded and then digested in HCl, resulting in a solution of Cr(III)Cl3 and 52Mn(II)Cl2. This solution was diluted and imaged in a glass scintillation vial using a microPET (Siemens, Munich, Germany) small animal PET scanner. The signal was corrected for abundant cascade gamma-radiation from 52Mn that could cause random false coincidence events to be detected, and then the image was reconstructed by filtered back-projection. Additionally, we have used the digested target to spike non-radioactive Mn(II)Cl2 solutions for simultaneous PET/MR phantom imaging using a Biograph mMR (Siemens) clinical scanner. The phantom consisted of a 4×4 matrix of 15 mL conical tubes containing 10 mL each of 0, 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 mM concentrations of non-radioactive Mn(II)Cl2 with 0, 7, 14, and 27 μCi (at start of PET acquisition) of 52Mn(II)Cl2 from the digested target added. The concentrations were based on previous MR studies that measured spin-lattice relaxation time (T1) versus concentration of Mn(II), and the activities were based on calculations for predicted count rate in the scanner. The PET/MR imaging consisted of a series of two-dimensional inversion-recovery turbo spin echo (2D-IR-TSE) MR sequences (TE = 12 ms; TR = 3,000 ms) with a wide range of inversion times (TI) from 23–2,930 ms with real-component acquisition, as well as a 30 min. list-mode PET acquisition that was reconstructed as one static frame by 3-D ordered subset expectation maximization (3D-OSEM). Attenuation correction was performed based on a two-point Dixon (2PD) MR sequence. The DICOM image files were loaded, co-registered, and windowed using the Inveon Research Workplace software (Siemens)

    Impact of a catch-up strategy of DT-IPV vaccination during hospitalization on vaccination coverage among people over 65 years of age in france: The HOSPIVAC study (Vaccination during hospitalization)

    In France, diphtheria tetanus and inactivated polio vaccine (DT-IPV) coverage and immunization are insufficient in the elderly and decrease with age. The principal objective of this study was to assess the impact of a strategy of catch-up DT-IPV vaccination during hospitalization in people over the age of 65 years in central France (the Sarthe region). We performed a prospective, single-center, cluster-randomized study (four hospital wards). We included patients aged ≥65 years, without mental impairment, contraindication and who accepted to participate, hospitalized in the internal medicine wards in Le Mans Hospital from 28 May 2018 to 27 May 2019. The DT-IPV vaccination status of the patients was determined at inclusion and the wards were randomized (intervention and control). In the intervention group, vaccination was up-dated during hospitalization. In case of temporary contraindication, vaccination was prescribed at hospital discharge. Patients hospitalized in the control wards received oral information only. Final immunization status was determined by calling the patient’s general practitioner two months after hospital discharge. One hundred and fifty seven patients were included: 73 in the intervention and 84 in the control arm. Baseline immunization coverage was 46.5%. Vaccination coverage increased from 56.2% to 80.8% in the intervention group and from 38.1% to 40.5% in the control group (p < 0.001). Having received sufficient information from the general practitioner was the only factor associated with vaccination being up-to-date in uni- and multivariate analysis: OR = 5.07 [2.45–10.51]. In a setting of low vaccination coverage DT-IPV vaccination during hospitalization is an effective catch-up strategy

    Randomized benchmarking of single and multi-qubit control in liquid-state NMR quantum information processing

    Being able to quantify the level of coherent control in a proposed device implementing a quantum information processor (QIP) is an important task for both comparing different devices and assessing a device's prospects with regards to achieving fault-tolerant quantum control. We implement in a liquid-state nuclear magnetic resonance QIP the randomized benchmarking protocol presented by Knill et al (PRA 77: 012307 (2008)). We report an error per randomized π2\frac{\pi}{2} pulse of 1.3±0.1×10−41.3 \pm 0.1 \times 10^{-4} with a single qubit QIP and show an experimentally relevant error model where the randomized benchmarking gives a signature fidelity decay which is not possible to interpret as a single error per gate. We explore and experimentally investigate multi-qubit extensions of this protocol and report an average error rate for one and two qubit gates of 4.7±0.3×10−34.7 \pm 0.3 \times 10^{-3} for a three qubit QIP. We estimate that these error rates are still not decoherence limited and thus can be improved with modifications to the control hardware and software.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, submitted versio

    The resource theory of quantum reference frames: manipulations and monotones

    Every restriction on quantum operations defines a resource theory, determining how quantum states that cannot be prepared under the restriction may be manipulated and used to circumvent the restriction. A superselection rule is a restriction that arises through the lack of a classical reference frame and the states that circumvent it (the resource) are quantum reference frames. We consider the resource theories that arise from three types of superselection rule, associated respectively with lacking: (i) a phase reference, (ii) a frame for chirality, and (iii) a frame for spatial orientation. Focussing on pure unipartite quantum states (and in some cases restricting our attention even further to subsets of these), we explore single-copy and asymptotic manipulations. In particular, we identify the necessary and sufficient conditions for a deterministic transformation between two resource states to be possible and, when these conditions are not met, the maximum probability with which the transformation can be achieved. We also determine when a particular transformation can be achieved reversibly in the limit of arbitrarily many copies and find the maximum rate of conversion. A comparison of the three resource theories demonstrates that the extent to which resources can be interconverted decreases as the strength of the restriction increases. Along the way, we introduce several measures of frameness and prove that these are monotonically nonincreasing under various classes of operations that are permitted by the superselection rule.Comment: 37 pages, 4 figures, Published Versio

    Inhomogeneous isospin distribution in the reactions of 28Si + 112Sn and 124Sn at 30 and 50 MeV/nucleon

    We have created quasiprojectiles of varying isospin via peripheral reactions of 28Si + 112Sn and 124Sn at 30 and 50 MeV/nucleon. The quasiprojectiles have been reconstructed from completely isotopically identified fragments. The difference in N/Z of the reconstructed quasiprojectiles allows the investigation of the disassembly as a function of the isospin of the fragmenting system. The isobaric yield ratio 3H/3He depends strongly on N/Z ratio of quasiprojectiles. The dependences of mean fragment multiplicity and mean N/Z ratio of the fragments on N/Z ratio of the quasiprojectile are different for light charged particles and intermediate mass fragments. Observation of a different N/Z ratio of light charged particles and intermediate mass fragments is consistent with an inhomogeneous distribution of isospin in the fragmenting system.Comment: 5 pages, 4 Postscript figures, RevTe

    Thermal excitation of heavy nuclei with 5-15 GeV/c antiproton, proton and pion beams

    Excitation-energy distributions have been derived from measurements of 5.0-14.6 GeV/c antiproton, proton and pion reactions with 197^{197}Au target nuclei, using the ISiS 4π\pi detector array. The maximum probability for producing high excitation-energy events is found for the antiproton beam relative to other hadrons, 3^3He and pˉ\bar{p} beams from LEAR. For protons and pions, the excitation-energy distributions are nearly independent of hadron type and beam momentum above about 8 GeV/c. The excitation energy enhancement for pˉ\bar{p} beams and the saturation effect are qualitatively consistent with intranuclear cascade code predictions. For all systems studied, maximum cluster sizes are observed for residues with E*/A ∼\sim 6 MeV.Comment: 14 pages including 5 figures and 1 table.     Circulating steroid levels as correlates of adipose tissue phenotype in premenopausal women

    Background: Obesity-related alterations in the circulating steroid hormone profile remain equivocal in women. Our objective was to identify circulating steroid levels that relate to increased adiposity and altered adipose phenotype in premenopausal women. Materials and methods: In a sample of 42 premenopausal women (age 46±3 years; BMI 27.1±4.2 kg/m2 ), 19 plasma steroids were quantified by ESI-LC-MS/MS. Body composition and fat distribution were assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry and computed tomography, respectively. Markers of adipose tissue function including adipocyte size distributions, radiological attenuation, and macrophage infiltration were also analyzed in surgically obtained visceral and subcutaneous fat samples. Results: Many negative correlations were observed between adiposity measurements such as BMI, body fat percentage or total abdominal adipose tissue area and plasma levels of androstenedione (r=-0.33 to -0.39, p≤0.04), androsterone (r=-0.30 to -0.38, p≤0.05) and plasma levels of steroid precursor pregnenolone (r=-0.36 to -0.46, p≤0.02). Visceral adipocyte hypertrophy was observed in patients with low pregnenolone concentrations (p<0.05). Visceral adipose tissue radiologic attenuation, a potential marker of adipocyte size, was also positively correlated with pregnenolone levels (r=0.33, p<0.05). Low levels of pregnenolone were related to increased number of macrophages infiltrating visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue (p<0.05). Conclusion: Plasma levels of androgens and their precursors are lower in women with increased adiposity and visceral adipocyte hypertrophy. Low circulating pregnenolone concentration may represent a marker of adipose tissue dysfunction
