Communicating with Constituents in 140 Characters or Less:

This paper affords an opportunity to study the early adoption, implementation and performance of an emerging technology by analyzing which members of Congress have been early adopters and extensive users of Twitter, and which have attracted the most followers. Our research questions and measures draw from the diffusion of innovation literature and early studies of online politics. Three multivariate analyses reveal that two motivators of adoption, party (Republican) and campaign resources are also drivers leading to extensive usage, but the other two, an urban constituency and the member’s own age do not. Instead, a large vote share in the last election joins party and funding in explaining high usage. The latter two plus high influential power differentiate between members with large and small numbers of followers. Collectively, these findings suggest that at this early developmental stage, Twitter is not a game changer, but an additional communications medium. They also underscore the contribution of diffusion of innovation literature to understanding how these interrelationships change depending upon whether we are examining adoption, implementation or performance

Mining the Web Data for Classifying and Predicting Users’ Requests

Consumers are the most important asset of any organization. The commercial activity of an organization booms with the presence of a loyal customer who is visibly content with the product and services being offered. In a dynamic market, understanding variations in client’s behavior can help executives establish operative promotional campaigns. A good number of new consumers are frequently picked up by traders during promotions. Though, several of these engrossed consumers are one-time deal seekers, the promotions undeniably leave a positive impact on sales. It is crucial for traders to identify who can be converted to loyal consumer and then have them patronize products and services to reduce the promotion cost and increase the return on investments. This study integrates a classifier that allows prediction of the type of purchase that a customer would make, as well as the number of visits that he/she would make during a year. The proposed model also creates outlines of users and brands or items used by them. These outlines may not be useful only for this particular prediction task, but could also be used for other important tasks in e-commerce, such as client segmentation, product recommendation and client base growth for brands

Analysis of Different Routing Algorithm for 2D-Torus Topology NoC Architecture under Load Variation

The recital of Network-on-Chip (NoC) depends on the underlying routing techniques. There are a lot of requirements that has to be met. Such performance metrics are minimum latency, least power and maximum throughput. This paper deals with XY route, PROM routing, FTXY routing and DyAD routing on 5x5 2D torus topology. The simulation is performed on nirgam NoC simulator version 2.1 for constant bit rate traffic condition. The simulation results reveals the dominance of XY, PROM, FTXY and DyAD algorithms depicting the minimum values of overall average latency per channel (in clock cycles per flit) as 0.409836 overall average latency per channel (in clock cycles per packet) as 6.2535, average throughput as 16.68, and total network power as 35.6768 mw, achieved for FTXY routing algorithm

Elementary Concepts of Big Data and Hadoop

This paper is an effort to present the basic importance of Big Data and also its importance in an organization from its performance point of view. The term Big data, refers the data sets, whose volume, complexity and also rate of growth make them more difficult to capture, manage, process and also analyzed. For such type of data –intensive applications, the Apache Hadoop Framework has newly concerned a lot of attention. Hadoop is the core platform for structuring Big data, and solves the problem of making it helpful for analytics idea. Hadoop is an open source software project that enables the distributed processing of enormous data and framework for the analysis and transformation of very large data sets using the MapReduce paradigm. This paper deals with the architecture of Hadoop with its various components

A prospective study on geriatric abdominal surgical emergencies

Background: Geriatric population is a special subgroup of population undergoing emergency abdominal surgeries. Both higher age group and emergency surgical procedure are considered as high risk factors. In this study, we study the most common cause for geriatric population to undergo an emergency abdominal surgery and the therapeutic outcomes. Methods: All the patients aged more than 60 years coming to surgical department, BLDEU’s hospital with acute abdominal conditions. Study period was from Jan 2010 to Jan 2013. All patients aged more than 60 years old admitted with abdominal emergency conditions in department of surgery. Geriatric patients coming with blunt trauma of abdomen also included. Exclusion criteria were immunocompromised patients.Results:128 patients aged 60 years or more who presented with abdominal emergency surgical conditions were studied. Most common cause for emergency abdominal surgery was perforated peptic ulcer (38%) followed by intestinal obstruction (17%). The most common post-operative complication was surgical site infection (29%). Mortality rate was 17%. Most common cause of death was septic shock with multi organ dysfunction. Conclusion:Geriatric population is an important subgroup of population undergoing emergency abdominal surgeries. Most common cause is peptic ulcer perforation followed by intestinal obstruction due to adhesions. More than the age per say, the delay in presentation may be the cause for mortality in this age group. The therapeutic outcome in patients with co morbid factors like hypertension and diabetes mellitus in control, were similar to other patients.

Anterior inferior plating versus superior plating for middle 1/3rd clavicle fracture: a prospective comparative study

Background: Fractures of the clavicle are common injuries that may result from direct blow or transmitted forces. Deformities are shortening and depression of lateral fragments. Various techniques are performed out of which superior and anteroinferior plating are widely used with each having its own merits and drawbacks. Our study compares the outcome between above mentioned techniques. Methods: We conducted a prospective comparative study of 60 patients who has met inclusion criteria and out of which 30 patients were treated with anteroinferior technique and 30 patients were treated with superior plating technique. Outcome measure were assessed through constant and murley score. Results: The demographic analysis of our study showed that the incidence of fracture is predominant among males (63.3%) with RTA being the most common mode of injury. AO/OTA classification which was used in our study revealed A1 as the most frequently involved group. Each group had 2 patients with infection post operatively which was managed with appropriate antibiotics. Increased incidence of delayed union was found in anterioinferior group (13.3%) with decreased hardware prominence in comparison with superior plating. Conclusions: There were no significant differences in functional outcome between both the groups except the fact that superior plating had higher chances of plate prominence. So either of the surgical technique can be employed depending upon the feasibility of surgeon
