    Get PDF
Kauman Batik Village in Solo City, Central Java Province, Indonesia has been widely known as the center of Indonesian batik production and one of the leading tourist destinations in Indonesia. However, the lives of the people settling in the village still fall into poverty. Related to this fact, this research aimed to determine whether the existence of Kauman Batik Village has social and economic impacts on the community around the village. This research is a phenomenological research with a qualitative approach. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews with several informants considered being able to represent and understand the socio-economic situation of Kauman Batik Village. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using the principle of data triangulation. The results showed that there were social and economic imbalances in the community of Kauman Batik Village. The social imbalance occurred because of the erosion of religious values upheld firmly by the village predecessors. Besides, the younger generation’s interest in becoming batik craftsmen was increasingly low. Instead, they preferred migrating outside the village. On another side, the economic imbalance emerged due to the decreasing batik production of Kauman Batik Village. Most of the batiks sold were machine-produced batiks, not handwritten batiks that have higher quality and price. Keywords: Kauman Batik Village, socio-economic analysis, tourism

IMPLICATION TO PERFORMANCE AND INJURY RISKS: THE KINEMATICS AND KINETICS INVOLVED IN THE EXECUTION OF THE DRAG FLICK BETWEEN ELITE AND SUB-ELITE FIELD HOCKEY PLAYERS.

    Get PDF
The main objective in field hockey is to score in order to win and the most efficient technique utilised to score is the drag flick. This study aimed to analyse the drag flick motion to better understand the kinematics and kinetics involved in attributing to performance and injury risks. One world class elite athlete and three sub-elites athletes were recruited in which they performed a series of drag flick shots. A 12-camera VICON MX camera and one Kistler force plate were used to determine the variables of interest. There was a reduction in pelvis range of motion and angular velocity from proximal-to-distal segments, and an increased internal rotation moments for the sub-elites compared to the elites. This is indicative of a lack of technique proficiency and increased risk of injury at the hip which can be improved by targeted training and strength and conditioning

VISUAL-PERCEPTUAL-MOTOR SKILLS OF ELITE SILAT ATHLETES WHEN RESPONDING TO VARIOUS COMBAT SITUATIONS THROUGH AN INTEGRATED STEREOSCOPIC SYSTEM

    Get PDF
Understanding the visual-perceptual-motor skill of an athlete can help optimize the periodization of a training plan. This study was designed to explore the visual-perceptual-motor skill of ten male elite Silat athlete when tasked to react to a set of projected video stimuli comprised of specific combat attack situations; side kicks, roundhouse kicks and crocodiles. A customized stereoscopic video system projected the stimuli in two- and three-dimensions with the latter being added with the aim of improving combat realism. This system synchronously recorded the gaze and movement behaviours of the participants when they responded to the combat situations. No differences in visual search behaviour, quiet eye and reaction time were found when tasked to respond between two- and three-dimensional videos, which may be due to the complexity of the stimulus. There was a significantly higher quantity and longer duration of fixations spent on the trunk of the opponent as compared to other areas of the body. Reaction time was also significantly different in the side kicks (slower responses) as compared to other attacks. Results from this study can pave way for future studies that seek to investigate how visual-perceptual-motor skill differs between expertise levels in the sport of Silat and serve as a basis for targeted coaching to enhance combat Silat performance

DOES OCCLUSION ALTER THE VISUAL-PERCEPTUAL-MOTOR SKILLS OF ELITE SILAT ATHLETES WHEN RESPONDING TO VIDEO-BASED PROJECTED COMBAT SITUATIONS?

    Get PDF
This study investigated if occlusion of attacks affects the visual search behaviour (VSB), quiet eye, and reaction time (RT) of Silat athletes. Occlusion (OC) refers to the spatial occlusion of the trunk of a video-projected opponent. It was hypothesized that (i) there would be higher number of fixations in OC, (ii) despite OC, the trunk will remain the primary fixation point, and (iii) longer RT to respond to projected attacks with OC due to the reduction in visual information. Seven male elite Silat athletes performed an evasion followed by a counterattack in response to an opponent projected in two-dimensions for both non-occluded (NOC) and OC conditions. A Dikablis eye tracker and a 12-camera VICON MX system were used to determine the variables of interest. Results indicated fewer number of fixations in OC while the trunk remains the area of interest regardless of occlusion conditions. No differences in RT were observed. Occlusion may have decreased the need for visual scanning and reiterates the trunk as the primary area of focus. Occlusion may be used as a training tool for sub-elite athletes, cueing them to reduce cognitive load on less crucial information, mimicking the VSB of elite athletes thus potentially improving performance

The advancement of technology, make robots have more attention from researchers to make life of mankind comfortable. This paper deals with the design of an itemized control system prepared for window cleaning/maintenance of towers and multistory buildings which can be aided to simulating human activities. These activities (washing, coating, wiping, climbing, and maintenance events) normally achieved by specialized personal. The designed control system was prepared to guide the units of the required job to move freely along the outside surface of a window with a fairly enough area and mediate time for achieving the desired goal. The system design is implemented using Arduino kit, due to facilities in program and control of cleaning windows through infer the stepper motor movement and rotation. The controller has been achieved as real time system (30 msec.), it is done throw control of three stepper motor by taken in consideration the speed of the motors (Ï€/3000 rad/sec) and the time can be adjustable within the cleaning area that the device covering it
