Tolerância de três acessos de Brachiaria spp. ao alagamento do solo, em condições controladas.

O excesso de água no solo em pastagens tropicais é a principal condição para instalação da síndrome da morte do capim Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu. Assim, objetivou-se comparar a tolerância relativa de três genótipos de Brachiaria: B. humidicola cv. Comum, B. humidicola cv. LIanero e B. brizantha cv. Marandu, ao alagamento do solo. As plantas foram cultivadas em vasos, sob alagamento do solo, em casa de vegetação, na Embrapa Amazônia Oriental, Belém (PA). O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 3 x 2, com cinco repetições. As produções de folhas, colmos e de massa seca total não foram reduzidas pelo alagamento do solo na cultivar LIanero, sendo mais reduzidas na cultivar Marandu. Todos os genótipos testados tiveram a produção de massa seca de raízes diminuída pelo alagamento do solo, porém, com maior intensidade na cultivar Marandu. Conclui-se que B. brizantha cv. Marandu foi o acesso mais afetado pelas condições de alagamento, sendo a cultivar LIanero a mais tolerante

Modeling the distribution of invasive species in small islands under future climates

ABSTRACT: The project described in the article aims to develop a robust data preparation and modeling pipeline to predict the habitat suitability of invasive species in the Azores Archipelago under current and future climate scenarios. Initial findings suggest that ensemble modeling is a useful tool for reducing uncertainty, and also the prospect for a more automated predictor selection. Avaliacao de cultivares de mandioca em tres ecossistemas do Estado do Piaui.

Avaliando o potencial genetico de cultivares de mandioca no Piaui, foram conduzidos tres ensaios nos municipios de Eliseu Martins, Flores doPiaui e Regeneracao-PI, no ano agricola 1985/86. Foram quatro cultivares procedentes do Piaui (Vermelhinha, Joao Vaz Preto, Cruvela e EnganaLadrao) e em cada local foi adicionada um cultivar procedente do Centro Nacional de Pesquisa de Mandioca e Fruticultura-CNPMF, Cruz das Almas-BA (Aipim Bahia, Tola 6301 e Mamao). O delineamento estatistico utilizado foi o de blocos ao acaso com quatro repeticoes e cinco tratamentos constituidos pelas cultivares de mandioca. Competitiveness levels in cattle herd farms.

The aim of this experiment was to identify improvement demands for farms with different levels of competitiveness in the west of Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. A total of 63 owners of large farms were interviewed (farms with an area greater than 900ha) by applying a semi-structured questionnaire, guided by four drivers: technology (TEC), management (MAN), market relations (MR) and the institutional environment (IE).It was used the Statistical Analysis System 9.2 software to perform the cluster analysis and identify farmers' characteristics. Three random clusters with different levels of competitiveness were observed: low competitiveness level (LCL), middle competitiveness level (MCL) and high competitiveness level (HCL). The 29 variables (sub factors) were evaluated in the cluster analysis according to level of impact on competitiveness, being classified into variables of high, medium or low impact. Stratification was carried out, ranking demands for improvements from aspects attributed by experts in relation to sub factors. The farmers with low competitiveness level (LTL) had an unfavorable status for MAN, while the farmers belonging to clusters MCL and HCL have, respectively, favorable and neutral status for the same driver. Graphene as a quantum surface with curvature-strain preserving dynamics

We discuss how the curvature and the strain density of the atomic lattice generate the quantization of graphene sheets as well as the dynamics of geometric quasiparticles propagating along the constant curvature/strain levels.
