Contextual Influences: Online Service Failure and Recovery Strategies

    Get PDF
In recent years, service failure and recovery strategies have generated considerable interest among both researchers and marketers. The Internet environment has transformed the concepts of service failure and recovery strategies from a dyadic customer-provider focus into a multidimensional web quality scope. In traditional encounters, the research spectrum of service failure and recovery strategies is very much developed from a customer service approach and the responsibility of recovery has been traditionally assumed to be something that is assigned to the marketer. Studies pay little or no attention to the multidimensional nature of service failures contingent to recovery strategies in developing countries. To date, empirical studies have focused on service failures and recovery strategies in developed countries. This paper aims to provide some insights on the need for a context-specific development of recovery programmes and strategies suitable for developing countries

Individual tax fairness in developing country: perceptions among Malaysian tax professionals / Azwanis Azemi

    Get PDF
Tax fairness has been used as one of the important determinants for tax compliance. Good perception of tax fairness would encourage taxpayers to comply with tax law to avoid any unreported and unpaid revenue to the government. Individual taxpayers are required to pay income tax, and they may engage with tax agents for their tax computation. This situation motivates this study to look into further dimensions of tax fairness by looking at tax agents’ perception as they are the important person to consult and give advice on tax matters. The main objective of this study is to propose the dimensions of individual tax fairness based on tax agents’ perceptions in Malaysia, and secondly, is to study on the prior literature and classify the dimensions of individual tax fairness that used similar measurement of Gerbing’s study. Sets of survey questionnaires were distributed at two tax conferences held in Kuala Lumpur, and the final data of 196 responses were analysed by exploratory factor analysis (EFA). The results indicated that tax agents identified six dimensions of tax fairness, and regardless of developed or developing countries, the numbers of dimensions of tax fairness could be identified more, depending on the level of individuals’ tax practice and knowledge. These results are expected to provide the implications either in theory and practice of tax fairness’ dimensions in Malaysia

A Review on the Extraction and Optimization of Phytochemicals from Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb

The genus Curcuma pertains to the Zingiberaceae family and consists of 70-80 species of perennial rhizomatous herbs. This genus originates in the Indo-Malayan region and it is broadly spread all over the world across tropical and subtropical areas. Curcuma xanthorrhiza belongs to the Zingiberaceae family is a rich source of phenolics and terpenoids with various bioactivities.  This study aims to provide more information about botanical features, biological activities, essential oils, phytochemicals, ultrasound-assisted extraction, and optimization of C.xanthorrhiza by response surface methodology and HPLC for further advanced research. Because of its use in the medicinal and food industries, C.xanthorrhiza is an extremely important economic genus. C.xanthorrhiza rhizomes are the source of a yellow dye and have traditionally been utilized as spices and food preservers, as a garnishing agent, and also utilized for the handling of various illnesses because of the chemical substances found in them. Furthermore, Because of the discovery of new bioactive substances with a broad range of bioactivities, including antioxidants, antivirals, antimicrobials and anti-inflammatory activities, interest in their medicinal properties has increased. Lack of information concerning botanical features, biological activities, essential oils, phytochemicals, ultrasound-assisted extraction, and optimization of C.xanthorrhiza by response surface methodology and HPLC is the biggest problem that the researcher encountered. This review recommended that collecting information concerning the C.xanthorrhiza may be providing more opportunities for further advanced studies lead to avoid wasting time and use this information for further research on bioactive compounds which are beneficial in medicinal purposes

The determination of groundwater contamination by leachate at Pulau Burung sanitary landfill: a case study / Nadiah Azemi

Among the more significant large municipal facilities to impact the quality of shallow groundwater are landfills and cemetetries. However, for the research, the quality of groundwater of landfills selected to be determined. The pollution of shallow groundwater at Pulau Burung Sanitary Landfill is characterized and recommendations made for mitigating the facilities’ impact. At landfill site, five groundwater well has been selected and sampled. Then the selected samples are analized and tested chemically and physically. The investigation at the landfill revealed typically under low levels of contamination except for those new sampling point which cannot be labeled critically contaminated for concrete reasons. The investigation also particularly regards to metals. Grouting and the use of gum trees as a pressure barrier are recommended for the downflow margins of the landfill. Conditions at the landfill could also be treated with locally available iron and sulphate minerals and by revegetating the top of the dump. The problems experienced at the landfill site will be covered by environmental and geotechnical considerations are given priority in site selection such priorities

This document discusses the description on the Final Year Project titled Web Portal in case UTP Centre for Graduate Studies. The deliverable of the project is a web portal that acts as an online medium for Postgraduate students in UTP to get information about the course and the university as well as to update on certain information regarding the academic matters. The objectives of this project are to design and develop a web portal template to address the requirements and needs at the postgraduate level and to implement the proposed web portal template for the development of UTP Centre for Graduate Studies portal as a prove of concept. The problem statement of this project is within the context of tertiary education, existing web portal templates are mainly focused the criteria and needs of undergraduate students and there is an existing gap as postgraduate students have different set of criteria and needs

Steel Plate Girder Bridge Design Using Indian Standard Method And British Standard Method

This paper compares the Indian Standard Method and British Standard Method in designing a steel plate girder bridges. From the comparison, the author comes out with a design example for both design method. By using excel spreadsheet, the author compares the weight of the plate girder bridge designed using both codes as the span increases with a fixed yield strength used. The design codes used for this study is BS 5400, IS 800:1984, Railway Bridge Rules, and Steel Construction Institute (SCI) Publication
