This means that the Indonesian government is responsible for all of the actions that take place within the organisation. Method: The population of the study will primarily consist of patients who are treated at Hermina Daan Mogot, a private hospital, and Pasar Minggu Public Hospital. Path analysis is being used in this study, which is a quantitative descriptive research approach. The goal of the study is to meet the research objectives by evaluating a set of hypotheses. The data collection is carried out through the use of a hardcopy questionnaire, and the primary data is gathered from four hundred patients spread across Jakarta's two hospitals. Results and conclusion: The outcomes of the research show that there is a favourable association between the BPJS and the level of satisfaction experienced by patients. In addition, the level of contentment expressed by patients regarding the quality of the treatment. Implications of the research: The findings suggest that Cost does not influence Service Quality because it possessed a significant value of t-count greater than 0.05 for both Hermina Daan Mogot Private Hospital and Pasar MInggu Public Hospital. Originality/value: The government regulated and established the financing, facility procurement, the source of the workforce, and the quality standard of the service, so that almost all dimensions of service can meet the desire and satisfaction of patients

This paper aims to determine whether the social satisfiers such as entity and community satisfactions lead to sustainability of corporate social responsibility projects; especially within an environment where economic wounds are still being healed and new opportunities are evolving within a society that has endured civil unrest for over 30 years. Government and society at large in a developing country expect corporate businesses to engage in CSR initiatives and complete those projects successfully, in other wards projects to be sustainable. The study used primary collected data for analysis collected from a sample of 360 shareholders /directors /managers /employees of 40 companies and 360 direct/indirect beneficiaries of 40 initiated CSR projects in Sri Lanka; these projects had been completed within a period of 5 years following a long civil war. The researcher used frequency percentage to summarise, descriptive data analysis, structural equation methods to test hypotheses and in-depth interviews. Interestingly, it was found that implementing CSR initiatives focused on merely benefiting society does not guarantee (less significant) sustainability of those initiatives. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) being one of the fastest changing areas of management today has few facets among scholars in the world, one school of thoughts believe CSR should be used mainly as a social endeavor and the others think it should be linked to the corporate strategy for financial performance. In this context, this paper aims to observe how strategic approach of CSR initiatives leads to sustainability specially an environment where economic wounds are been settling and new opportunities are been evolving after a 30 year long civil unrest in a society. The strategic antecedents recognized in this model are resource mobilization, market development and customer orientation and the study attempts to identify the core strategic focus of those in building CSR initiatives for sustainability. Accordingly, total of 360 shareholders/investors and managers among 40 corporates who were involved in CSR activities during 05 years after a long civil war in Sri Lanka was sampled. It has found that implementing CSR initiatives strategically aiming both resource mobilization and market development tend to support sustainability of those initiatives but aiming customer orientation has less impact otherwise. In conclusion, it is advisable for corporates to approach CSR initiatives strategically gaining a return to both the society and for them and also it is important that governments too support those initiatives in rebuilding process. Among many scholars globally, there are two schools of thought; one group believes that CSR should be mainly used as a social endeavour and the other thinks it should be linked to the corporate financial performance strategy. This paper aims to analyse the theories behind the social endeavor approach or the corporate strategy approach of CSR initiatives leads to sustainability of projects. The most important factor of all is the continuous support that a government and society at large expects from its corporate businesses in the building of its economy; ensuring projects are correctly selected, being sustainable and offering opportunities to improve corporate performance and society in general. Therefore, this paper focuses on identifying the theories behind appropriate approaches one should take when selecting a CSR initiative i.e. deciding between social endeavor or the strategic perspective in order to deliver sustainability of these initiatives. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is not scientifically proven and standardised. Hence, the customer depends highly on the credibility of the provider. However, there is a lack of research in respect to consumer's purchase intention towards traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to model the relative effects of trust, knowledge, perceived price and attitude on the intention of consumers to purchase TCM in a market setting outside China. Data were collected over an eight-week period, using a close-ended questionnaire from 329 respondents in Malaysia. The proposed model of this study was tested using structural equation modelling (SEM). Findings showed that trust, attitude and knowledge were significant factors in determining consumer purchase intention towards TCM. This study suggests that marketers should focus more on trust building and on reducing consumer mistrust in order to establish long-term acceptance of and commitment to purchase TCM. Besides, marketers are encouraged to focus more on enhancing consumer knowledge about TCM treatment through education and confidence building experience. Entrepreneurs who want to penetrate into the healthcare industry with TCM treatment need to emphasise the influence of consumer trust and knowledge to foster and expand market share

Can parental involvement mitigate “swing away from science”? Sri Lankan perspectives

    No full text
“Swing away from science” is a dilemma that researchers are seeking solutions over 50 years. The dilemma is becoming more complicated due to the developmental decline in students’ motivation toward learning science around the world, particularly at the secondary level. While the parental involvement becomes more vital in the secondary school years, it also dramatically declines in this period. The study investigated the level of parental involvement in terms of parents’ socioeconomic factors and students’ demographic factors. The association between parental involvement measured in terms of four dimensions and Sri Lankan secondary public school students’ motivation toward learning science measured in terms of six dimensions was also studied. A random sample of 689 students and their parents participated in this quantitative survey. While the parental involvement showed significant differences in relation to the parents’ income level and the school category that the child attends, the same showed no significant difference in relation to parents’ ethnicity and child’s gender. Parental involvement showed a strong association with students’ intrinsically and extrinsically motivated science learning and self-efficacy. Home-based parental involvements had a stronger impact on students’ motivation compared to the school-based involvements. Measures that can be taken by the stakeholders to strengthen the parental involvement activities, which enhance students’ motivation to learn science and mitigate swing away from science were discussed

Online transaction for business and individual purchases is now becoming routine works for the users worldwide due to the inception, development and rapid expansion of World Wide Web in last three decades. The internet era in Malaysia started during the year 1995 and since then dramatic changes have taken place in terms of internet facilities and customers’ perceptions. The main objective of the current study is to explore the challenges the Malaysian consumers face in terms of e-commerce experiences with small businesses in general and, in particular, to identify the ranks of bad experiences they encounter within the framework of descriptive statistics and multiple regressions based on a questionnaire approach. In addition, the study also looks into the potential impacts of demographic profiles of respondents on the e-commerce experiences in general and bad experiences in particular using one way ANOVA. The results suggest that e-commerce users face highest challenges with after purchase services followed by overall quality, usage experience, value, and installation. Regarding bad experiences, slow internet appears on the top of the list followed by slow delivery of the products, unfriendly website, poor quality products, complicated payment system, and unsecured operations. Although many previous studies of the last decade identified that security concern is the top barrier of e-commerce adoption, this study reveals that security issue is no longer serious issue for Malaysian customers. The demographic characteristics such as gender, race and income have significant impacts on the level of satisfaction perceived in the e-commerce transaction while regarding bad experiences the demographic profiles have little or no impacts. The results of this study provide insights to the policymakers and business practitioners to address the issues of after purchase services and slow internet
