This study aimed at analyzing students` writings in terms of: (1) the types of cohesive devices used; (2) the types of topical progressions; and (3) the problems of coherence. The subjects investigated were 30 second grade students of SMAN 1 Labuapi. There were two kinds of data collected: written and verbal data. In collecting the data, the students were given a writing task and the students and the English teacher were interviewed. The data were analyzed qualitatively based on Halliday and Hasans` theory of cohesion (1976) and Topical Progression Analysis of Lautamatti (1978) in Hoenisch (2009) and Almaden (2006). The results of study were (1) the students used the five types of cohesive devices to serve the coherence of their writings of which reference 40.84% with personal reference as the dominant use. Lexical cohesion was used 37.99% dominated with repetition. Then, it was followed by conjunction 19.60 %, ellipsis 1.35%, and substitution 0.29%; (2) the topical progression used was parallel progression with the percentage 56.84%, sequential progression 24.19%, and extended parallel progression 18.25%; (3) some problems in coherence of students` writings were reference, conjunction, lexical cohesion, tenses, auxiliary `to be`, passive voice, infinitive, gerund, subject-verb agreement, noun, preposition, and text structure. The result of the study indicates that cohesion and coherence have to be the emphasis in teaching writing and the English teachers have to be competent in evaluating the coherence of students` writings by applying TSA

External lightning protection system for wind turbine blades - power performance

    Get PDF
Previous studies conducted by the authors on the aerodynamic performance of turbine blades have shown unfavourable effects of externally mounted lightning down conductors. Owing to this, one could ask whether or not externally mounted lightning down conductors could linearly affect the power performance of the whole wind turbine as well. Therefore, this paper presents a study of the power performance of one wind turbine with an externally mounted lightning down conductor. An untwisted blade profile of NACA 4418 with and without external conductor was used on the full wind turbine model. Numerical simulations were carried out on turbine power output derived from Blade Element Momentum (BEM) theory. The results are compared and discussed. The preliminary results indicate that degradation in power performance may not be significant

On the diversity of F420 -dependent oxidoreductases:A sequence- and structure-based classification

    Get PDF
The F(420) deazaflavin cofactor is an intriguing molecule as it structurally resembles the canonical flavin cofactor, although behaves as a nicotinamide cofactor due to its obligate hydride‐transfer reactivity and similar low redox potential. Since its discovery, numerous enzymes relying on it have been described. The known deazaflavoproteins are taxonomically restricted to Archaea and Bacteria. The biochemistry of the deazaflavoenzymes is diverse and they exhibit great structural variability. In this study a thorough sequence and structural homology evolutionary analysis was performed in order to generate an overarching classification of the F(420)‐dependent oxidoreductases. Five different deazaflavoenzyme Classes (I–V) are described according to their structural folds as follows: Class I encompassing the TIM‐barrel F(420)‐dependent enzymes; Class II including the Rossmann fold F(420)‐dependent enzymes; Class III comprising the β‐roll F(420)‐dependent enzymes; Class IV which exclusively gathers the SH3 barrel F(420)‐dependent enzymes and Class V including the three layer ββα sandwich F(420)‐dependent enzymes. This classification provides a framework for the identification and biochemical characterization of novel deazaflavoenzymes

This research used the qualitative approach by case study desain. Research location is Madrasah Aliyah Al-Mizan Balai Karangan Kecamatan Sekayam Kabupaten Sanggau West Borneo Province. Data Source in this research are foundation board, a principal, teachers and students of Madrasah Aliyah Al-Mizan Balai Karangan. Data obtained by interview, observation of non participle and documentation. Data was analysed by three activity, that are reducing, presentation, and verification. The results of the analysis of data obtained conclusions that leadership profile of Madrasah Aliyah Al-Mizan Center includes the transformation vision and mission and goals of the school, gave a briefing assignments, and motivate teachers and staff to carry out the duties and functions of each

THE CONSERVATION OF MARINE ECOSYSTEM FROM TRAWL USAGE BY THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BASED ON SUSTAINABLE MARINE PRESERVATION PRINCIPLE

Fisheries practice using trawl and seine nets in Indonesia are still numerous since fishermen round that it will yield much more. However, the practice also threatens the life of small and young fishes as well as destroys the coral reef. The government then issued the regulation namely the Regulation of Minister on Marine Affairs and Fishery Number 2/Permen-KP/2015 about the Prohibition of Trawl and Seine Nets Usage which apply to the whole area of fisheries in Indonesia. It was one of the efforts by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia in conserving its marine ecosystem. The aim of this study was to evaluate the application of regulation to prohibit the trawl and seine nets usage based on sustainable marine preservation principle. This study was a doctrinal research applying case approach and statute approach. The study was held on several regions in Indonesia where the regulation has been enforced. The findings then elaborated with legal sources, such as Act number 32 year 2009 about Environment Conservation and Management, Act number 31 year 2004 about Fisheries, and Regulation of Minister of Marine and Fishery Number 2/Permen-KP/2015 as primary legal sources. The secondary legal sources used were journals, articles, and other relevant sources. The result showed that there is a need to establish a model for ideal implementation of the regulation based on sustainable marine preservation principle in order to conserve the marine environment as well as to increase the welfare of traditional fishermen
