A Model of Exchange-Rate-Based Stabilization for Turkey
The literature on the exchange-rate-based stabilization has focused almost exclusively in Latin America. Many other countries however, such as Egypt, Lebanon and Turkey; have undertaken this sort of programs in the last 10-15 years. I depart from the existing literature by developing a model specifically for the 2000-2001 heterodox exchange-rate-based stabilization program in Turkey: When the government lowers the rate of crawl, the rate of domestic credit creation is set equal to the lower rate of crawl, bond sales finance the fiscal deficit, and money growth occurs only through capital inflows. Without appealing to high intertemporal elasticity of substitution, the model does very well at replicating the magnitude of the current account deficit (5.5% of GDP predicted vs. 5% of GNP actual), the peak in total consumption spending (10.08% predicted vs. 9.6% actual), average growth rate in total consumption spending (6.7% predicted vs. 6% actual), the peak in durables spending (37.06% predicted vs. 39.5% actual), and the average growth rate in durables spending (24% predicted vs. 27.4% actual) observed in Turkey following the inception of the program.inflation, exchange-rate-based stabilization, durables
Detector Based Calibration of a Portable Imaging Spectrometer for CLARREO Pathfinder Mission
The Climate Absolute Refractivity and Reflectance Observatory (CLARREO) Pathfinder (CPF) mission is being developed to demonstrate SI-traceable retrievals of reflectance at unprecedented accuracies for global satellite observations. An Independent Calibration of the CPF sensor using the Goddard Laser for Absolute Measurement of Radiance (GLAMR) is planned to allow validation of CPF accuracies. GLAMR is a detector-based calibration system relies on a set of NIST-calibrated transfer radiometers to assess the spectral radiance from the GLAMR sphere source to better than 0.3 % (k=2). The current work describes the calibration of the Solar, Lunar Absolute Reflectance Imaging Spectroradiometer (SOLARIS) that was originally developed as a calibration demonstration system for the CLARREO mission and is now being used to assess the independent calibration being developed for CPF. The methodology for the radiometric calibration of SOLARIS is presented as well as results from the GLAMR-based calibration of SOLARIS. The portability of SOLARIS makes it capable of collecting field measurements of earth scenes and direct solar and lunar irradiance similar to those expected during the on-orbit operation of the CPF sensor. Results of SOLARIS field measurements are presented. The use of SOLARIS in this effort also allows the testing protocols for GLAMR to be improved and the field measurements by SOLARIS build confidence in the error budget for GLAMR calibrations. Results are compared to accepted solar irradiance models to demonstrate accuracy values giving confidence in the error budget for the CLARREO reflectance retrieval
Mobility Study for Named Data Networking in Wireless Access Networks
Information centric networking (ICN) proposes to redesign the Internet by
replacing its host-centric design with information-centric design.
Communication among entities is established at the naming level, with the
receiver side (referred to as the Consumer) acting as the driving force behind
content delivery, by interacting with the network through Interest message
transmissions. One of the proposed advantages for ICN is its support for
mobility, by de-coupling applications from transport semantics. However, so
far, little research has been conducted to understand the interaction between
ICN and mobility of consuming and producing applications, in protocols purely
based on information-centric principles, particularly in the case of NDN. In
this paper, we present our findings on the mobility-based performance of Named
Data Networking (NDN) in wireless access networks. Through simulations, we show
that the current NDN architecture is not efficient in handling mobility and
architectural enhancements needs to be done to fully support mobility of

Surface morphological evolutions on single crystal films by strong anisotropic drift-diffusion under the capillary and electromigration forces
The morphological evolution of voids at the unpassivated surfaces and the
sidewalls of the single crystal metallic films are investigated via computer
simulations by using the novel mathematical model developed by Ogurtani relying
on the fundamental postulates of irreversible thermodynamics. The effects of
the drift-diffusion anisotropy on the development of the surface morphological
scenarios are fully explored under the action of the electromigration (EM) and
capillary forces (CF), utilizing numerous combination of the surface textures
and the directions of the applied electric field. The interconnect failure time
due to the EM induced wedge shape internal voids and the incubation time of the
oscillatory surface waves, under the severe instability regimes, are deduced by
the novel renormalization procedures applied on the outputs of the computer
