Head and neck squamous cell carcinomas rarely cause cranial metastases, but HPV related subgroup is known for unusual metastasis sites on the body. Despite the good overall treatment responses in this group, intracranial metastases are always accepted as a sign of rapid deterioration. We present a case of cranium metastasis of HPV related oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma, which had been very well responded to the treatment for years but deteriorates in a short period after the cranium metastasis

Adoption of Business Model Canvas in Exploring Digital Business Transformation

Digital Business Transformation (DBT) values and contributions are still unrecognized by many organizations. Managers face problems in initiating their digital transformation due to the challenges and complexities in the realization of these processes. Business Model Canvas (BMC) – known as a semantically enriched tool for business model analysis and design – is a rather novel approach proposed to solve this problem. It is used to highlight organizations’ capabilities and verify the role of IT systems in organizations. Further empirical investigations are required to identify BMCs role in DBT and specify the main changes caused by IT systems. For this purpose, a case study of “The Faculty of Scientific Research at Zarqa University” is used to demonstrate how BMC can be utilized as a part of the DBT process, where a new internal IT system for Scientific Research is introduced, and BMC is implemented through. The Scientific Research Information System (SRIS) has been used to manage the research in the faculty. The BMC design was implemented pre and post-using the SRIS. A proposed model was derived based on the difference between both implementations. A quantitative approach using an online questionnaire was accomplished to evaluate this model and measure its new elements post using SRIS. The research results show that Key Activities, Key Resources, Value Propositions, Customer Relationships, and Channels are the main zones related to DBT. In addition, the changes in the elements of Key Resources are the essential motive and the cornerstone of DBT

Invasive Treatment Modalities for Spasticity and Pain in Spinal Cord Injury

    No full text
Spasticity secondary to spinal cord injury may impair function or ease of care or may cause discomfort or poor body image. The treatment of spasticity and pain requires a multidisciplinary approach with treatment aimed at modulating the movement disorder through oral medication, injectable drugs, surgical intervention and physical therapy. Surgical treatment of the neurologic effects of the central movement disorders include selective dorsal rhizotomy, intrathecal baclofen pump placement, and potentially deep brain stimulation. Techniques may be combined for greater efficacy and better tailoring to the needs of the patient. This article provides an overview of each approach, with a review of significant research findings in support of each. Turk J Phys Med Rehab 2010; 56 Suppl 2:102-

Psychosurgery: Review of Latest Concepts and Applications

    No full text
Although the utilization of psychosurgery has commenced in early 19th century, when compared with other neurosurgical fields, it faced many obstacles resulting in the delay of advancement of this type of surgical methodology. This was due to the insufficient knowledge of both neural networks of the brain and the pathophysiology of psychiatric diseases. The aggressive surgical treatment modalities with high mortality and morbidity rates, the controversial ethical concerns, and the introduction of antipsychotic drugs were also among those obstacles. With the recent advancements in the field of neuroscience more accurate knowledge was gained in this field offering new ideas for the management of these diseases. Also, the recent technological developments aided the surgeons to define more sophisticated and minimally invasive techniques during the surgical procedures. Maybe the most important factor in the rerising of psychosurgery is the assemblage of the experts, clinicians, and researchers in various fields of neurosciences implementing a multidisciplinary approach. In this article, the authors aim to review the latest concepts of the pathophysiology and the recent advancements of the surgical treatment of psychiatric diseases from a neurosurgical point of view

WOS: 000403583500010Runaway pacemaker results from pacemaker malfunction and is characterized by sudden increases in the stimulus rate above the set upper rate limit of the pacemaker. Here we report the case of a patient with wide QRS complex tachycardia who was admitted to the emergency unit and diagnosed with runaway pacemaker

Cranioplasty: Review of materials and techniques

    No full text
Cranioplasty is the surgical intervention to repair cranial defects. The aim of cranioplasty is not only a cosmetic issue; also, the repair of cranial defects gives relief to psychological drawbacks and increases the social performances. Many different types of materials were used throughout the history of cranioplasty. With the evolving biomedical technology, new materials are available to be used by the surgeons. Although many different materials and techniques had been described, there is still no consensus about the best material, and ongoing researches on both biologic and nonbiologic substitutions continue aiming to develop the ideal reconstruction materials. In this article, the principle materials and techniques of cranioplasty are reviewed
