    Hypercyclic Abelian Semigroups of Matrices on Rn

    We give a complete characterization of existence of dense orbit for any abelian semigroup of matrices on R^{n}. For finitely generated semigroups, this characterization is explicit and it is used to determine the minimal number of matrices in normal form over R which form a hypercyclic abelian semigroup on R^{n}. In particular, we show that no abelian semigroup generated by [(n+1)/2] matrices on Rn can be hyper-cyclic. ([ ] denotes the integer part).Comment: 19 page

    Dynamics of abelian subgroups of GL(n, C): a structure's Theorem

    In this paper, we characterize the dynamic of every abelian subgroups G\mathcal{G} of GL(nn, K\mathbb{K}), K=R\mathbb{K} = \mathbb{R} or C\mathbb{C}. We show that there exists a G\mathcal{G}-invariant, dense open set UU in Kn\mathbb{K}^{n} saturated by minimal orbits with Kn−U\mathbb{K}^{n}- U a union of at most nn G\mathcal{G}-invariant vectorial subspaces of Kn\mathbb{K}^{n} of dimension n−1n-1 or n−2n-2 on K\mathbb{K}. As a consequence, G\mathcal{G} has height at most nn and in particular it admits a minimal set in Kn−{0}\mathbb{K}^{n}-\{0\}.Comment: 16 page

    Impacts of restoration of an uncontrolled phosphogypsum dumpsite on the seasonal distribution of abiotic variables, phytoplankton, copepods, and ciliates in a man-made solar saltern

    International audienceThe restoration of an uncontrolled phosphogypsum landfill was investigated for its effects on the seasonal distribution of phytoplankton, ciliates, and copepods. Sampling was carried out monthly from September 2007 to August 2008 at four ponds of increasing salinity (A1, 41 psu; A5, 46 psu; A16, 67 psu; and C31, 77 psu) in the Sfax solar saltern (southeastern Tunisia). Physicochemical and biological analyses were carried out using standard methods. Results showed drastic reduction of phosphate input and greater diversity of phytoplankton, ciliates, and copepods than before restoration. Pennate diatoms and new ciliates, considered bio-indicators of less-stressed marine ecosystems, proliferated in the A1 pond for the first time after restoration. Copepods appeared to feed on a wide range of prey. Economically, removal of the 1.7 million m3 of phosphate improved the quality of the site's salt production, enabling the salt company to receive the quality ISO 9001 accreditation

    Evaluation of the Water Quality and the Eutrophication Risk in Mediterranean Sea Area: A Case Study of the Gulf of Gabès

    The Gulf of Gabès, located in southern Tunisia, is a distinct and ecologically significant area in the Mediterranean Sea. Unfortunately, this dynamic marine ecosystem is experiencing cultural eutrophication, a process where water enrichment with nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen salts leads to excessive algae growth, disrupting the ecological equilibrium and degrading water quality. In the Gulf of Gabès, key sources of nutrient pollution include industrial discharges, urbanization and agriculture. Eutrophication’s effects here include harmful algal blooms, oxygen depletion, and declining water quality, upsetting the marine ecosystem’s balance and impacting both fish and aquatic life. Nutrient enrichment interacts with trace metal pollution, overfishing and climate change. Future research must acknowledge and consider the complex interactions among these variables. Efforts in the Gulf of Gabès to address eutrophication involve tighter industrial regulations, enhanced agriculture and improved wastewater management, all crucial for preserving the marine environment’s integrity and ensuring sustainability for the future

    Antioxidant Properties of Metabolites from New Extremophiles Microalgal Strain (Southern, Tunisia)

    With the demand for bioproducts that can provide benefits for biotechnology sectors like pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and cosmeceuticals, the exploration of microalgal products has turned toward extremophiles. This chapter is intended to provide an insight to most important molecules from halotolerant species, the cyanobacteria Phormidium versicolor NCC-466 and Dunaliella sp. CTM20028 isolated from Sfax Solar Saltern (Sfax) and Chott El-Djerid (Tozeur), Tunisia. These microalgae have been cultured in standard medium with a salinity of 80 PSU. The in vitro antioxidant activities demonstrated that extremolyte from Dunaliella and Phormidium as, phycocaynin, lipids, and polyphenol compound presents an important antioxidant potential

    Maternal and Child Health Services in the Context of the Ebola Virus Disease: Health Care Workers’ Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices in Rural Guinea

    The objective of this study was to document maternal and child health care workers‘ knowledge, attitudes and practices on service delivery before, during and after the 2014 EVD outbreak in rural Guinea. We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study in ten health districts between October and December 2015, using a standardized self-administered questionnaire. Overall 299 CHWs (94% response rate) participated in the study, including nurses/health technicians (49%), midwives (23%), managers (16%) and physicians (12%). Prior to the EVD outbreak, 87% of CHWs directly engaged in managing febrile cases within the facility, while the majority (89% and 63%) referred such cases to another facility and/or EVD treatment centre during and after the EVD outbreak, respectively. Compared to the period before the EVD outbreak when approximately half of CHWs (49%) reported systematically measuring body temperature prior to providing any care to patients, most CHWs reported doing so during (98%) and after the EVD outbreak (88%). The main challenges encountered were the lack of capacity to screen for EVD cases within the facility (39%) and the lack of relevant equipment (10%). The majority (91%) of HCWs reported a decrease in the use of services during the EVD outbreak while an increase was reported by 72% of respondents in the period following the EVD outbreak. Infection prevention and control measures established during the EVD outbreak have substantially improved self-reported provider practices for maternal and child health services in rural Guinea. However, more efforts are needed to maintain and sustain the gain achieved.Key words: Maternal and child health, practices, Ebola, Guine
