    An effective 6DoF motion model for 3D-6DoF Monte Carlo Localization

    This paper deals with the probabilistic 6DoF motion model of a wheeled road vehicle. It allows to correctly model the error introduced by dead reckoning. Furthermore, to stress the importance of an appropriate motion model, i.e., that different models are not equally good, we show that another model, which was previously developed, does not allow a correct representation of the uncertainty, therefore misguiding 3D-6DoF Monte Carlo Localization. We also present some field experiments to demonstrate that our model allow a consistent determination of the 6DoF vehicle pose

    Konsensusprotokoll zur Standardisierung von Entnahme und Biobanking des Liquor cerebrospinalis

    Die Erforschung von Biomarkern in Körperflüssigkeiten bei neurodegenerativen und neuroinflammatorischen Erkrankungen blickt auf eine langjährige Geschichte zurück. Dennoch werden nur wenige Liquor cerebrospinalis (Liquor)-Biomarker in der klinischen Praxis verwendet. Einer der problematischen Faktoren in der Liquorbiomarker-Forschung ist die eingeschränkte Aussagekraft von Studien aufgrund einer nicht ausreichend großer Anzahl von Proben, die in Studien von einzelnen Zentren akquiriert werden können. Deshalb ist die Kooperation zwischen mehreren Zentren erforderlich, um große Biobanken von definierten Proben zu etablieren. Standardisierte Protokolle für Biobanking sind unumgänglich, um die durch die größere Anzahl von Liquorproben gewonnene statistische Aussagekraft sicherzustellen und nicht durch mangelhafte Präanalytik einzuschränken. Hier wird ein Konsensusbericht über Leitlinien zu Liquorentnahme und Biobanking durch das BioMS-eu Netzwerk für Liquorbiomarker-Forschung in Multipler Sklerose präsentiert. Schwerpunkte des Berichts sind Liquorentnahme, präanalytische Faktoren und klinische sowie sonstige Informationen.     Consensus Guidelines for CSF and Blood Biobanking for CNS Biomarker Studies

    There is a long history of research into body fluid biomarkers in neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases. However, only a few biomarkers in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) are being used in clinical practice. Anti-aquaporin-4 antibodies in serum are currently useful for the diagnosis of neuromyelitis optica (NMO), but we could expect novel CSF biomarkers that help define prognosis and response to treatment for this disease. One of the most critical factors in biomarker research is the inadequate powering of studies performed by single centers. Collaboration between investigators is needed to establish large biobanks of well-defined samples. A key issue in collaboration is to establish standardized protocols for biobanking to ensure that the statistical power gained by increasing the numbers of CSF samples is not compromised by pre-analytical factors. Here, consensus guidelines for CSF collection and biobanking are presented, based on the guidelines that have been published by the BioMS-eu network for CSF biomarker research. We focussed on CSF collection procedures, pre-analytical factors and high quality clinical and paraclinical information. Importantly, the biobanking protocols are applicable for CSF biobanks for research targeting any neurological disease

    Metodología de muestreo expeditivo ambiental/productivo para la determinación de líneas de base prediales en planes MBGI

    En el Manejo de Bosque con Ganadería Integrada (MBGI); las propuestas técnicas se basan en el manejo adaptativo de los componentes forestales; ganaderos; forrajeros; y ambientales que se deben plasmar en la presentación de un Plan MBGI con propuestas factibles de implementar. Este tipo de manejo implica un proceso de monitoreo de la evolución de los distintos componentes en el que los aciertos y los errores de las prácticas de manejo son fuentes de conocimiento. Se trata de un proceso abierto que atiende la historia del sistema e incluye intereses y expectativas de usuarios presentes y futuros. Para llevar a cabo el ordenamiento predial bajo el concepto del manejo adaptativo; es imprescindible contar con un sistema de monitoreo que verifique que la planificación cumple con los objetivos en todas las dimensiones de la sustentabilidad: ambiental; social-económica y productiva. A través de la metodología actualmente propuesta para el monitoreo de planes prediales a campo para Patagonia (Peri et al.; 2021); se relevan datos para el cálculo o estimación de 12 indicadores ambientales; 2 socio económicos y 6 productivos. En este diseño se procura optimizar la obtención de datos de calidad; basados en la economía de los recursos del monitoreo y el tiempo.     Impact of COVID-19 on cardiovascular testing in the United States versus the rest of the world

    Objectives: This study sought to quantify and compare the decline in volumes of cardiovascular procedures between the United States and non-US institutions during the early phase of the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the care of many non-COVID-19 illnesses. Reductions in diagnostic cardiovascular testing around the world have led to concerns over the implications of reduced testing for cardiovascular disease (CVD) morbidity and mortality. Methods: Data were submitted to the INCAPS-COVID (International Atomic Energy Agency Non-Invasive Cardiology Protocols Study of COVID-19), a multinational registry comprising 909 institutions in 108 countries (including 155 facilities in 40 U.S. states), assessing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on volumes of diagnostic cardiovascular procedures. Data were obtained for April 2020 and compared with volumes of baseline procedures from March 2019. We compared laboratory characteristics, practices, and procedure volumes between U.S. and non-U.S. facilities and between U.S. geographic regions and identified factors associated with volume reduction in the United States. Results: Reductions in the volumes of procedures in the United States were similar to those in non-U.S. facilities (68% vs. 63%, respectively; p = 0.237), although U.S. facilities reported greater reductions in invasive coronary angiography (69% vs. 53%, respectively; p < 0.001). Significantly more U.S. facilities reported increased use of telehealth and patient screening measures than non-U.S. facilities, such as temperature checks, symptom screenings, and COVID-19 testing. Reductions in volumes of procedures differed between U.S. regions, with larger declines observed in the Northeast (76%) and Midwest (74%) than in the South (62%) and West (44%). Prevalence of COVID-19, staff redeployments, outpatient centers, and urban centers were associated with greater reductions in volume in U.S. facilities in a multivariable analysis. Conclusions: We observed marked reductions in U.S. cardiovascular testing in the early phase of the pandemic and significant variability between U.S. regions. The association between reductions of volumes and COVID-19 prevalence in the United States highlighted the need for proactive efforts to maintain access to cardiovascular testing in areas most affected by outbreaks of COVID-19 infection

    Antibacterial activity of prenylated benzopyrans from Peperomia obtusifolia (Piperaceae)

    Peperomia obtusifolia is a herbaceous perennial plant native to the Americas reported as a traditional medicine to treat snake bites and as a skin cleanser. The bioassay-guided fractionation of crude extracts from aerial parts of P. obtusifolia against a panel of clinically important fungi and bacteria, showed that hexane and dichloromethane extracts demonstrated selective bacterial inhibition, allowing the isolation of the known compounds peperobtusin A (1), and 3,4-dihydro-5-hydroxy-2,7-dimethyl-8-(3”-methyl-2”-butenyl)-2-(4’-methyl-1’,3’-pentadienyl)-2H-1-benzopyran-6-carboxylic acid (2) from dichloromethane extract. Compound 2 was active against Gram-positive bacteria including community acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) isolates and an Enterococcus faecalis vancomycin-resistant strain, with minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of 4 μg/mL (10.8 μM) and 8 μg/mL (21.6 μM) respectively. The interaction of compound 2 with the bacterial membrane was demonstrated by means of Zeta potential experiments on S. aureus, then confirming the membrane damage by fluorescent microscopy experiments.Fil: Ruiz Mostacero, Nathalie.
