    MATLAB-based Graphical User Interface (GUI) for Data Mining as a Tool for Environment Management

    Abstract—The application of data mining to environmental monitoring has become crucial for a number of tasks related to emergency management. Over recent years, many tools have been developed for decision support system (DSS) for emergency management. In this article a graphical user interface (GUI) for environmental monitoring system is presented. This interface allows accomplishing (i) data collection and observation and (ii) extraction for data mining. This tool may be the basis for future development along the line of the open source software paradigm

    Deaggregation of Probabilistic Ground Motions for Selected Jordanian Cities

    Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis (PSHA) approach was adopted to investigate seismic hazard distribution across Jordan. Potential sources of seismic activities in the region were identified, and their earthquake recurrence relationships were developed from instrumental and historical data. Maps of peak ground acceleration and spectral accelerations (T=0.2 and T=1.0 sec.) of 2% and 10% probability of exceedance in 50 years were developed. This study deaggregated the PSHA results of 2% and 10% probability of exceedance in 50 years results of twelve Jordanian cities to help understand the relative control of these sources in terms of distances and magnitudes. Results indicated that seismic hazard across these cities is mainly controlled by area sources located along the Dead Sea Transform (DST) fault system. Cities located at short distances from the DST tend to show close deaggregation behavior. Some discrepancies may exist due to the proximity or remoteness of these cities relative to the DST seismic sources and local seismicity. The modal or most probable distance distribution indicated that the distance to the earthquake which contributes most to the hazard at each city is mainly controlled by shaking along faults associated with near seismic area sources. The influence of adjacent seismic sources to the seismic hazard of each city is more evident for the long period spectral acceleration. Distant sources, such as the eastern Mediterranean, Cyprus, Suez and the southern region of the Gulf of Aqaba are relatively low, but can not be neglected due to the intrinsic uncertainties and incomplete seismic data

    Psychological distress among undergraduate dental students in Saudi Arabia and its coping strategies—a systematic review

    The objective of this paper was to evaluate the studies that have reported on psychological issues among dental students in Saudi Arabia and to develop coping strategies to overcome these mental health-related issues. The present systematic review is in accordance with the guidelines for Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). The search for the articles was carried out in the electronic databases by four independent researchers. The data search was performed in the electronic search engines like PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science, Scopus, Medline, Embase, Cochrane and Saudi Digital Library for scientific research articles published from January 2000 until December 2020. STROBE guidelines were adopted for qualitative analysis of six articles which met the eligibility criteria. The analysis of the literature revealed that most of the studies included were conducted in the past 8 years in different regions of Saudi Arabia. Findings of this systematic review clearly state that dental students in Saudi Arabia experience higher levels of depression, stress and anxiety and stress during their education period, with a higher stress for female students compared to male students. There is an urgent need to introduce interventional programs and preventive strategies to overcome the long-term effects

    Multidimensional Homeier's generalized class and its application to planar 1D Bratu problem

    [EN] In this paper, a parametric family of iterative methods for solving nonlinear systems, including Homeier’s scheme is presented, proving its third-order of convergence.     Histopathological effects of alternative feedstuffs (sesame hulls and Prosopis juliflora) on ruminal walls in black goat kids in Jordan

    This study evaluated the histopathological effects of alternative feedstuffs on ruminal walls and, subsequently, the impact on growth performance of black goat kids in Jordan. Male goat kids (n = 62, BW = 17.1 ± 2.0 kg, age = 120 ± 5 days) housed in individual pens were randomly assigned to one of seven diets for 84 days. Treatment diets were prepared by partially replacing barley in the control diet (CTL; n = 9) with different levels (10%, 15%, or 20%) of Prosopis juliflora pods (JP; n = 26) or partially replacing barley and soybean meal in the control diet with different levels of P. juliflora pods (10%, 15%, or 20%) plus sesame hulls (20%, 15%, or 10%; PJSH; n = 27). All kids were slaughtered and sections from ruminal walls were examined for vacuolar degeneration, dysplasia, hyperplasia, hyperkeratosis, stunting, submucosal inflammation, submucosal oedema, erosions, lymphangiectasia, and ulcers. Dietary treatments had no effects on all studied histopathological changes. The growth rate of kids was negatively correlated (P ≤ .05) with submucosal oedema and inflammation. However, the severity of submucosal oedema and inflammation was not affected by dietary treatments. Alternative feedstuffs had no detrimental histopathological effects on ruminal walls of goat kids
