The article analyzes the axiological dimension in the professional training of medical students at the University of Holguin (Medical Sciences Branch in Banes, Cuba), taking as a reference the education in values and its transversalization in the curriculum of the referred academic program. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with second-year medical students in order to identify the predominant values in their profile during the 2018-2019 academic year. The results allow the characterization of performance in relation to motivational processes to contribute to the formation of a citizen committed to his or her profession. Similarly, factors are shown from subjectivity, linked to the relevance of socialized knowledge and the teaching practice; on the one hand, honesty, responsibility, and commitment predominate, and on the other, greater attention to dignity, honesty, industriousness, and justice is required. The conclusion is that there is a need to strengthen an axiological dimension in the profile, from the mediation of self-evaluation and strategic direction processes that lead to precise and effective actions in the didactic and curricular fields.

Abstract Purpose To evaluate the presence of psychological distress (PD) and its association with the mental health and coping styles of pregnant women living with HIV (PWLWH). Method An observational, cross-sectional descriptive study was performed. Seventy-three PWLWH were included. Patients responded to a psychometric battery for PD, depression, anxiety, stress, and coping style evaluation. The scales used in the study were: Goldberg鈥檚 30-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-30), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Zung Depression Self-Measurement Scale (ZDS), Nowack Stress Profile, Lazarus and Folkman鈥檚 Coping Styles Questionnaire. Results PD was observed in 31.5% of the participants. PD-positive patients showed a higher probability of presenting traits of depression and anxiety and medium/high stress levels. Besides, they preferentially used emotion-focused coping styles. Conclusion PD is associated with a higher probability of presenting anxiety and depression in PWLWH. Emotion-focused coping style could be a factor in decision-making associated with risk behaviors in PWLWH

International audienceMany talks in this conference have shown the power of high resolution spectroscopy, coupled to high precision. A new spectrograph, fed by an Extremely Large Telescope, will have such a huge collecting power that it will allow for the first time some outstanding applications. We argue here that such a new instrument should therefore aim at the highest long term stability and precision. High resolution and high accuracy need photons; the ELTs will give us a tremendous opportunity, and we shall make use of it

Body appreciation around the world: Measurement invariance of the Body Appreciation Scale-2 (BAS-2) across 65 nations, 40 languages, gender identities, and age

The Body Appreciation Scale-2 (BAS-2) is a widely used measure of a core facet of the positive body image construct. However, extant research concerning measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across a large number of nations remains limited. Here, we utilised the Body Image in Nature (BINS) dataset - with data collected between 2020 and 2022 - to assess measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across 65 nations, 40 languages, gender identities, and age groups. Multi-group confirmatory factor analysis indicated that full scalar invariance was upheld across all nations, languages, gender identities, and age groups, suggesting that the unidimensional BAS-2 model has widespread applicability. There were large differences across nations and languages in latent body appreciation, while differences across gender identities and age groups were negligible-to-small. Additionally, greater body appreciation was significantly associated with higher life satisfaction, being single (versus being married or in a committed relationship), and greater rurality (versus urbanicity). Across a subset of nations where nation-level data were available, greater body appreciation was also significantly associated with greater cultural distance from the United States and greater relative income inequality. These findings suggest that the BAS-2 likely captures a near-universal conceptualisation of the body appreciation construct, which should facilitate further cross-cultural research
