Water separator
An apparatus for separating liquids from gases or gaseous fluids is described. Features of the apparatus include: (1) the collection and removal of the moisture in the fluid is not dependent upon, or affected by gravity; (2) all the collected water is cyclically drained from the apparatus irrespective of the attitude of the separator; and (3) a fluid actuator is utilized to remove the collected water from the separator
Semi-analytical dark matter halos and the Jeans equation
Although N-body studies of dark matter halos show that the density profiles,
rho(r), are not simple power-laws, the quantity rho/sigma^3, where sigma(r) is
the velocity dispersion, is in fact a featureless power-law over ~3 decades in
radius. In the first part of the paper we demonstrate, using the semi-analytic
Extended Secondary Infall Model (ESIM), that the nearly scale-free nature of
rho/sigma^3 is a robust feature of virialized halos in equilibrium. By
examining the processes in common between numerical N-body and semi-analytic
approaches, we argue that the scale-free nature of rho/sigma^3 cannot be the
result of hierarchical merging, rather it must be an outcome of violent
relaxation. The empirical results of the first part of the paper motivate the
analytical work of the second part of the paper, where we use rho/sigma^3
proportional to r^{-alpha} as an additional constraint in the isotropic Jeans
equation of hydrostatic equilibrium. Our analysis shows that the constrained
Jeans equation has different types of solutions, and in particular, it admits a
unique ``periodic'' solution with alpha=1.9444. We derive the analytic
expression for this density profile, which asymptotes to inner and outer

Biologically Based Restorative Management of Tooth Wear
The prevalence and severity of tooth wear is increasing in industrialised nations. Yet, there is no high-level evidence to support or refute any therapeutic intervention. In the absence of such evidence, many currently prevailing management strategies for tooth wear may be failing in their duty of care to first and foremost improve the oral health of patients with this disease. This paper promotes biologically sound approaches to the management of tooth wear on the basis of current best evidence of the aetiology and clinical features of this disease. The relative risks and benefits of the varying approaches to managing tooth wear are discussed with reference to long-term follow-up studies. Using reference to ethical standards such as âThe Daughter Testâ, this paper presents case reports of patients with moderate-to-severe levels of tooth wear managed in line with these biologically sound principles
"Give Us the Chance to Be Part of You, We Want Our Voices to Be Heard": Assistive Technology as a Mediator of Participation in (Formal and Informal) Citizenship Activities for Persons with Disabilities Who Are Slum Dwellers in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
The importance of assistive technology (AT) is gaining recognition, with the World Health Organisation (WHO) set to publish a Global Report in 2022. Yet little is understood about access for the poorest, or the potential of AT to enable this group to participate in the activities of citizenship; both formal and informal. The aim of this qualitative study was to explore AT as mediator of participation in citizenship for persons with disabilities who live in two informal settlements in Freetown, Sierra Leone (SL). The paper presents evidence from 16 participant and 5 stakeholder interviews; 5 focus groups and 4 events; combining this with the findings of a house-to-house AT survey; and two national studies-a country capacity assessment and an informal markets deep-dive. Despite citizenship activities being valued, a lack of AT was consistently reported and hindered participation. Stigma was also found to be a major barrier. AT access for the poorest must be addressed if citizenship participation for persons with disabilities is a genuine global intention and disability justice is to become a reality
Nudges and other moral technologies in the context of power: Assigning and accepting responsibility
Strawson argues that we should understand moral responsibility in terms of our practices of holding responsible and taking responsibility. The former covers what is commonly referred to as backward-looking responsibility , while the latter covers what is commonly referred to as forward-looking responsibility . We consider new technologies and interventions that facilitate assignment of responsibility. Assigning responsibility is best understood as the second- or third-personal analogue of taking responsibility. It establishes forward-looking responsibility. But unlike taking responsibility, it establishes forward-looking responsibility in someone else. When such assignments are accepted, they function in such a way that those to whom responsibility has been assigned face the same obligations and are susceptible to the same reactive attitudes as someone who takes responsibility. One family of interventions interests us in particular: nudges. We contend that many instances of nudging tacitly assign responsibility to nudgees for actions, values, and relationships that they might not otherwise have taken responsibility for. To the extent that nudgees tacitly accept such assignments, they become responsible for upholding norms that would otherwise have fallen under the purview of other actors. While this may be empowering in some cases, it can also function in such a way that it burdens people with more responsibility that they can (reasonably be expected to) manage
The interaction of fingermark deposits on metal surfaces and potential ways for visualisation
The interaction of fingermark deposits on metals has been examined by a variety of techniques. Visualisation by film growth has been the main area of investigation through: thermal oxidation, anodising, peroxide solution, and the interaction with vapour of iodine and ammonium sulphide. Corrosion of the underlying metal has also been examined as an alternative means of visualisation. Confocal microscopy was used to look at the film thickness and corrosion products around the prints. Scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersion of X-rays (SEM-EDX) examined a number of metal samples to investigate film growth and the elemental distribution. The observations suggest that differential oxidation was occurring as well as corrosion into the metal. Fingermark deposits on metals can corrode into the metal depending on the reactivity of the metal and leave a recoverable mark. However, fingermark deposits can also alter the rate of chemical reaction of the substrate metal by oxidation. In some cases organic matter can inhibit reaction, both when forming an oxide layer and when corroding the metal. However, signs of third level detail from pore contact may also be visible and the monovalent ions from salts could also influence film growth. Whilst further work would need to be carried out to decide whether any of these techniques may have application in fingermark recovery, this study does suggest that fingermarks on metals may be recoverable after incidents such as fires or immersion in water
The Role of the Radial Orbit Instability in Dark Matter Halo Formation and Structure
For a decade, N-body simulations have revealed a nearly universal dark matter
density profile, which appears to be robust to changes in the overall density
of the universe and the underlying power spectrum. Despite its universality,
the physical origin of this profile has not yet been well understood.
Semi--analytic models by Barnes et al. (2005) have suggested that the density
structure of dark matter halos is determined by the onset of the radial orbit
instability (ROI). We have tested this hypothesis using N-body simulations of
collapsing dark matter halos with a variety of initial conditions. For
dynamically cold initial conditions, the resulting halo structures are triaxial
in shape, due to the mild aspect of the instability. We examine how variations
in initial velocity dispersion affect the onset of the instability, and find
that an isotropic velocity dispersion can suppress the ROI entirely, while a
purely radial dispersion does not. The quantity sigma^2/vc^2 is a criterion for
instability, where regions with sigma^2/vc^2 <~1 become triaxial due to the ROI
or other perturbations. We also find that the radial orbit instability sets a
scale length at which the velocity dispersion changes rapidly from isotropic to
radially anisotropic. This scale length is proportional to the radius at which
the density profile changes shape, as is the case in the semi--analytic models;
however, the coefficient of proportionality is different by a factor of ~2.5.
We conclude that the radial orbit instability is likely to be a key physical
mechanism responsible for the nearly universal profiles of simulated dark

Hausdorff dimension of critical fluctuations in abelian gauge theories
The geometric properties of the critical fluctuations in abelian gauge
theories such as the Ginzburg-Landau model are analyzed in zero background
field. Using a dual description, we obtain scaling relations between exponents
of geometric and thermodynamic nature. In particular we connect the anomalous
scaling dimension of the dual matter field to the Hausdorff dimension
of the critical fluctuations, {\it which are fractal objects}. The
connection between the values of and , and the possibility of

The workings of the single member plurality electoral system in India and the need for reform
India uses single member plurality system (SMPS) to elect the members of the lower house of its national parliament and the state assemblies. Under SMPS, elections are conducted for separate geographical areas, known as constituencies or districts, and the electors cast one vote each for a candidate with the winner being the candidate who gets the plurality of votes. SMPS is traditionally defended primarily on the grounds of simplicity and its tendency to produce winning candidates, which promotes a link between constituents and their representatives. It tends to provide a clear-cut choice for voters between two main parties, and is expected to gives rise to single-party rather than coalition governments. It also has the benefit of excluding extremist parties from gaining representation, unless their support is geographically concentrated
