    Co-inoculation effects of Bradyrhizobium japonicum and Azospirillum sp. on competitive nodulation and rhizosphere eubacterial community structures of soybean under rhizobia-established soil conditions

    Bradyrhizobial inoculants used for soybean seed inoculation to maximize the benefit of N2-fixation should include bradyrhizobial strain with high N2-fixation rates and ability to compete with the indigenous rhizobial populations. In this study, co-inoculation of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) Azospirillum sp. with either of Bradyrhizobium japonicum CB 1809 or USDA 110 increased shoot and root dry weight of soybean over non-inoculated control under pot condition with no indigenous soybean nodulating bradyrhizobia. Moreover, competition for nodulation and the effects on rhizosphere soil eubacterial community structures by using single or co-inoculation of B. japonicum and Azospirillum sp. under rhizobia-established Myanmar and Thailand soils were investigated. By inoculation of gus-marked USDA 110 singly or its co-inoculation gave 93.21 to 94.75% and 74.21 to 100% in nodule occupancy, and 23.50 to 41.95% and 50.37 to 73.24% promotion in biomass dry weight over non-inoculated control in Myanmar and Thailand soil samples, respectively. Each of all the tested inoculum levels, that is 106, 107 and 108 cfu/ml of Azospirillum sp. enhanced nodulation in combination with USDA 110 with a corresponding increase in 73.8, 62.25 and 95.34%; and 51.52, 62.38 and 79.46% over non-inoculated control, respectively in Myanmar and Thailand soil, respectively. In addition, soybean rhizosphere soil eubacterial community structures were not shifted by bacterial inoculation.     Insights into the availability and distribution of oral artemisinin monotherapy in Myanmar: evidence from a nationally representative outlet survey

    Abstract Background The containment of artemisinin resistance in Myanmar, historically an important probable origin and route of anti-malarial resistance to the India sub-continent and beyond, is crucial to global malaria control and elimination. This paper describes what is currently known about the sale and distribution of oral artemisinin monotherapy (AMT) across Myanmar, where this medicine is commonly found. Methods A nationally representative 2015 outlet survey was conducted in the private sector, and among community health workers across four geographical domains. A national sample of outlets was screened for availability of malaria testing and treatment, and an audit was completed for all anti-malarials. Results A total of 3859 outlets across Myanmar had an anti-malarial in stock on the day of survey. Of the 3859 anti-malarial stocking outlets, 988 outlets stocked oral AMT. Availability of oral AMT was highest among outlets in the Western border (36.8%) versus other domains (Eastern, 15.0%; Central, 19.3% Coastal, 10.7%). Over 90% of the oral AMT service delivery points were private sector outlets: general retailers (49.4%), pharmacies (23.5%), and itinerant drug vendors (14.2%). Eleven unique oral AMT products were audited. The most common product audited was ArtesunateÂŪ, manufactured by Mediplantex in Vietnam, which accounted for 79.9% of the oral AMT market share. Other oral AMT products were manufactured in China and in Myanmar. Over 60% of oral AMT products had a shelf life at purchase of greater than 2 years and only 14.7% were expired. The median number of oral AMT tablets typically dispensed to treat malaria was two tablets, approximately one tenth of a full adult course. The median price of a 50 mg tablet was $0.16. Conclusions Given the high availability and distribution of oral AMT, it is possible that Myanmar has become the last remaining viable market for any oral AMT in the region for manufacturers. National and international organizations need to act quickly and effectively to stop the production and distribution to both improve malaria control within Myanmar and reduce risk of artemisinin resistance spreading to India and Africa

    Reducing Complexity of Java Source Codes in Structural Testing by Using Program Slicing

    Structural testing is one of the techniques of software testing. It tests only the structure of the source code while comparing expected results and actual results. Generally, structural testing takes a long time to perform its task and not possible. Sometimes, only a small portion of the program is relevant. This can be done by program slicing. Program Slicing is to decompose the program into smaller units that depends on different types of dependencies between the program statements. The different types of program slicing are forward slicing, backward slicing, complete slicing, dynamic and static slicing, etc. Moreover, there is Tree Slicing which is also a key technique to slice and merge different Symbolic Execution (SE) sub-trees under some specific conditions.  In this paper, we combine Tree Slicing technique and Indus Kaveri where Indus is a robust framework for analyzing and slicing concurrent Java programs, and Kaveri is a feature-rich Eclipse-based GUI front end for Indus slicing. Then we present the experimental results in order to reduce the complexity of the java source code

    Timing of antiretroviral therapy and TB treatment outcomes in patients with TB-HIV in Myanmar.

    SETTING: Integrated HIV Care programme, Mandalay, Myanmar. OBJECTIVES: To determine time to starting antiretroviral treatment (ART) in relation to anti-tuberculosis treatment (ATT) and its association with TB treatment outcomes in patients co-infected with tuberculosis (TB) and the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) enrolled from 2011 to 2014. DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. RESULTS: Of 1708 TB-HIV patients, 1565 (92%) started ATT first and 143 (8%) started ART first. Treatment outcomes were missing for 226 patients and were thus not included. In those starting ATT first, the median time to starting ART was 8.6 weeks. ART was initiated after 8 weeks in 830 (53%) patients. Unsuccessful outcome was found in 7%, with anaemia being an independent predictor. In patients starting ART first, the median time to starting ATT was 21.6 weeks. ATT was initiated within 3 months in 56 (39%) patients. Unsuccessful outcome was found in 12%, and in 20% of those starting ATT within 3 months. Patients with CD4 count <100/mm(3) had a four times higher risk of an unsuccessful outcome. CONCLUSIONS: Timing of ART in relation to ATT was not an independent risk factor for unsuccessful outcome. Extensive screening for TB with rapid and sensitive diagnostic tests in HIV-infected persons and close monitoring of anaemia and immunosuppression are recommended to further improve TB treatment outcomes among patients with TB-HIV

    GUESSING, MODEL CHECKING AND THEOREM PROVING OF STATE MACHINE PROPERTIES – A CASE STUDY ON QLOCK

    It is worth understanding state machines better because various kinds of systems can be formalized as state machines and therefore understanding state machines has something to do with comprehension of systems. Understanding state machines can be interpreted as knowing properties they enjoy and comprehension of systems is interpreted as knowing whether they satisfy requirements. We (mainly the second author) have developed a tool called SMGA that basically takes a finite sequence of states from a state machine and generates a graphical animation of the finite sequence or the state machine. Observing such a graphical animation helps us guess properties of the state machine. We should confirm whether the state machine enjoys the guessed properties because such guessed properties may not be true properties of the state machine. Model checking is one possible technique to do so. If the state machine has a fixed small number of reachable states, model checking is enough. Otherwise, however, it is not. If that is the case, we should use some other techniques to make sure that the system enjoys the guessed properties. Interactive theorem proving is one such technique. The paper reports on a case study in which a mutual exclusion protocol called Qlock is used as an example to exemplify the abovementioned idea or methodology

    Aging-Affected MSC Functions and Severity of Periodontal Tissue Destruction in a Ligature-Induced Mouse Periodontitis Model

    Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are known to play important roles in the repair of lost or damaged tissues and immunotolerance. On the other hand, aging is known to impair MSC function. However, little is currently known about how aged MSCs affect the host response to the local inflammatory condition and tissue deterioration in periodontitis, which is a progressive destructive disease of the periodontal tissue potentially leading to multiple tooth loss. In this study, we examined the relationship between aging-induced impairment of MSC function and the severity of periodontal tissue destruction associated with the decrease in host immunomodulatory response using a ligature-induced periodontitis model in young and aged mice. The results of micro computerized tomography (micro-CT) and histological analysis revealed a more severe bone loss associated with increased osteoclast activity in aged (50-week-old) mice compared to young (5-week-old) mice. Immunostaining analysis revealed that, in aged mice, the accumulation of inflammatory T and B cells was higher, whereas the percentage of platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha (PDGFR alpha)(+) MSCs, which are known to modulate the apoptosis of T cells, was significantly lower than in young mice. In vitro analysis of MSC function showed that the expression of surface antigen markers for MSCs (Sca-1, CD90, CD146), colony formation, migration, and osteogenic differentiation of aged MSCs were significantly declined compared to those of young MSCs. Moreover, a significantly higher proportion of aged MSCs were positive for the senescence-associated beta galactosidase activity. Importantly, aged MSCs presented a decreased expression of FAS-L, which was associated with a lower immunomodulatory property of aged MSCs to induce T cell apoptosis in co-cultures compared with young MSCs. In summary, this is the first study showing that aging-induced impairment of MSC function, including immunomodulatory response, is potentially correlated with progressive periodontal tissue deterioration

    The burden of dengue, source reduction measures, and serotype patterns in Myanmar, 2011 to 2015-R2.

    BACKGROUND: Myanmar is currently classified as a high burden dengue country in the Asian Pacific region. The Myanmar vector-borne diseases control (VBDC) program has collected data on dengue and source reduction measures since 1970, and there is a pressing need to collate, analyze, and interpret this information. The aim of this study was to describe the burden of hospital-based dengue disease, dengue control measures, and serotype patterns in Myanmar between 2011 and 2015. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study using annual records from the Dengue Fever/Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever Prevention and Control Project in Myanmar. RESULTS: Between 2011 and 2015, there were a total of 89,832 cases and 393 deaths in hospitals, with 97% of cases being in children. In 2013 and 2015, there was an increased number of cases, respectively at 21,942 and 42,913, while during the other 3 years, numbers ranged from 4738 to 13,806. The distribution of dengue deaths each year mirrored the distribution of cases. Most cases (84%) occurred in the wet season and 54% occurred in the delta/lowlands. Case fatality rate (CFR) was highest in 2014 at 7 per 1000 dengue cases, while in the other years, it ranged from 3 to 5 per 1000 cases. High CFR per 1000 were also observed in infants < 1 year (CFR = 8), adults â‰Ĩ 15 years (CFR = 7), those with disease severity grade IV (CFR = 17), and those residing in hilly regions (CFR = 9). Implementation and coverage of dengue source reduction measures, including larval control, space spraying, and health education, all increased between 2012 and 2015, although there was low coverage of these interventions in households and schools and for water containers. In the 2013 outbreak, dengue virus serotype 1 predominated, while in the 2015 outbreak, serotypes 1, 2, and 4 were those mainly in circulation. CONCLUSION: Dengue is a serious public health disease burden in Myanmar. More attention is needed to improve monitoring, recording, and reporting of cases, deaths, and vector control activities, and more investment is needed for programmatic research

    Domain-Specific Sentiment Lexicon for Classification

    Nowadays people express their opinions about products, government policies, schemes and programs over social media sites using web or mobile. At the present time, in our country, government changes policies in every sector and people follow with the eyes or the mind on these policies and express their opinion by writing comments on social media especially using Facebook news media pages. Therefore, our research group intends to do sentiment analysis on new articles. Domain-specific sentiment lexicon has played an important role in opinion mining system. Due to the ubiquitous domain diversity and absence of domain-specific prior knowledge, construction of domain-specific lexicon has become a challenging research topic in recent year. In this paper, lexicon construction for sentiment analysis is described. In this work, there are two main steps: (1) pre-processing on raw data comments that are extracted from Facebook news media pages and (2) constructing lexicon for coming classification work. The word correlation and chi-square statistic are applied to construct lexicon as desired. Experimental results on comments datasets demonstrate that proposed approach is suitable for construction the domain-specific lexicon
