    Water-Cooling-Based Approach for PV System Performance Enhancement towards UAE Future Energy Efficiency Policies

    United Arab Emirates (UAE) has implemented the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, targeting a 50% increase in renewable energy's contribution by 2050. Steps to achieve this strategy include accelerating efficient consumption of energy and focusing on research and development for sustainable energy solutions. This research aims to investigate the potential improvement in the performance of PV systems as a result of panel’s water-cooling under the UAE climatic conditions. In this work, a PV system consists of two identical 100-W PV panels and an automated water cooling arrangement was built. To assess the effectiveness of the cooling method used, one PV panel was subjected to water cooling, while the other remained uncooled in order to be taken as a benchmark. The experiments took place over a typical summer day during the period between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. The proposed cooling strategy was repeatedly applied every half an hour to investigate the temperature reduction behavior at different times of the day. The experimental results demonstrated that the adopted water approach was able to achieve a temperature drop of up to 14.6 K. The corresponding power output was improved by up to 12% as a result of the PV panel cooling

    Fatigue cycles and performance evaluation of accelerating aging heat treated aluminum semi solid materials designed for automotive dynamic components

    The A357-type (Al-Si-Mg) aluminum semi solid casting materials are known for their excellent strength and good ductility, which make them materials of choice, preferable in the manufacturing of automotive dynamic mechanical components. Semi-solid casting is considered as an effective technique for the manufacturing of automotive mechanical dynamic components of superior quality performance and efficiency. The lower control arm in an automotive suspension system is the significant mechanical dynamic component responsible for linking the wheels of the vehicle to the chassis. A new trend is to manufacture this part from A357 aluminum alloy due to its lightweight, high specific strength, and better corrosion resistance than steel. This study proposes different designs of a suspension control arm developed, concerning its strength to weight ratio. Furthermore, this study aims to investigate the effect of accelerating thermal aging treatments on the fatigue life of bending fatigue specimens manufactured from alloy A357 using the Rheocasting semi-solid technology. The results revealed that the multiple aging cycles, of WC3, indicated superior fatigue life compared to standard thermal aging cycles. On the other hand, the proposed designs of automotive suspension control components showed higher strength-to-weight ratios, better stress distribution, and lower Von-Mises stresses compared to conventional designs

    Novel, Functional Fermented Dairy Product: Preparation and Evaluation of Dried Kishk-like Products from Fenugreek Seeds with Cow’s Milk, Camel’s Milk, and Goat’s Milk

    The objective of this study was to evaluate the nutritional value of dried Kishk-like products using burghal of wheat, oat, and fenugreek with cow’s milk, camel’s milk, and goat’s milk. Kishk is an artisanal product that is popular in Egypt and the Middle East. This product is made primarily with wheat; however, to our knowledge, no research has used fenugreek seeds in making it. Changes in the physicochemical, microbial, and sensory properties of Kishk samples were followed over 90 days of storage at room temperature. The proximate analysis of fenugreek–Kishk samples (CF, AF, and GF) revealed the levels of moisture content (4.05–7.86%), protein (21.49–22.66%), fat (22.07–26.07%), fiber (13.59–14.19%), carbohydrate (22.16–28.37%), and ash (8.00–9.03%), and acidity ranged from 3.00% to 5.98%. Notably, the GF sample displayed the highest a*, b*, dC*, and ΔE values, along with the lowest L* value among all samples. Counts of coliform, yeasts and molds, Staphylococci, and spore-forming bacteria were not detected at detection limit < log CFU/g for any prepared Kishk-like samples. This was due to the combined levels of organic acids, high acidity, and low moisture content in Kishk samples that resulted in a safe food with a long shelf life. The Kishk-like samples thus could provide a complementary diet for infants up to six months, as well as a suitable option for children and elderly individuals requiring specialized care, offering an alternative to commercially available extracts

    Optimized Method for Generating and Acquiring GPS Gold Codes

    We propose a simpler and faster Gold codes generator, which can be efficiently initialized to any desired code, with a minimum delay. Its principle consists of generating only one sequence (code number 1) from which we can produce all the other different signal codes. This is realized by simply shifting this sequence by different delays that are judiciously determined by using the bicorrelation function characteristics. This is in contrast to the classical Linear Feedback Shift Register (LFSR) based Gold codes generator that requires, in addition to the shift process, a significant number of logic XOR gates and a phase selector to change the code. The presence of all these logic XOR gates in classical LFSR based Gold codes generator provokes the consumption of an additional time in the generation and acquisition processes. In addition to its simplicity and its rapidity, the proposed architecture, due to the total absence of XOR gates, has fewer resources than the conventional Gold generator and can thus be produced at lower cost. The Digital Signal Processing (DSP) implementations have shown that the proposed architecture presents a solution for acquiring Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites signals optimally and in a parallel way

    Background: In children, forearm fractures are among the most prevalent types of fractures Operative procedures such as, pinning with K-wires, plate osteosynthesis as well as elastic-stable intramedullary nailing (ESIN) are necessary for these fractures.Objective: This study aimed to assess treating and outcomes of pediatric forearm fractures with elastic stable intramedullary nailing (ESIN).Patients and methods: At Orthopedic Departments of Zagazig University Hospital and Tripoli University Hospital, 8 skeletally immature patients with diaphyseal forearm fractures were studied in prospective cohort research. The study was carried out from November 2020 to May 2021. Pre-operative X-ray and CT were done and the patient was prepared for surgery. Elastic-stable intramedullary nailing technique was done to all patients, all patients were regularly followed clinically and radiographically for 1 week and then 2, 4, 6, 12 week after end of surgery.Results: we found that all patients progressed to union without the need for any further surgical intervention with good functional outcome as regards forearm rotation. One case had residual radius angulation more than 20 degree, no case had residual ulna angulation, 2 cases had superficial infection, 1 case had superficial radial nerve palsy and 1 case had elbow joint stiffness.Conclusion: Intramedullary fixation by flexible intramedullary nails (ESIN) is successful treatment option and recommended for pediatric patients with 4-14 years of age or older because it is simple safe and minimally invasive procedure and effective method of treatment that provides many biological and mechanical advantages

    Brown Tumor of the Cervical Spines: A Case Report with Literature Review

    To report a rare case of axis brown tumor and to review literature of cervical spine brown tumor. Brown tumor is a rare bone lesion, incidence less than 5% in primary hyperparathyroidism. It is more common in secondary hyperparathyroidism with up to 13% of cases. Brown tumor reactive lesion forms as a result of disturbed bone remodeling due to long standing increase in parathyroid hormones. Cervical spine involvement is extremely rare, can be confused with serous spine lesions. To date, only four cases of cervical spine involvement have been reported. Three were due to secondary hyperparathyroidism. Only one was reported to involve the axis and was due to secondary hyperparathyroidism. This is the first reported case of axis brown tumor due to primary hyperparathyroidism. A case report of brown tumor is presented. A literature review was conducted by a Medline search of reported cases of brown tumor, key words: brown tumor, osteoclastoma and cervical lesions. The resulting papers were reviewed and cervical spine cases were listed then classified according to the level, cause, and management. Only four previous cases involved the cervical spine. Three were caused by secondary hyperparathyroidism and one was by primary hyperparathyroidism which involved the C6. Our case was the first case of C2 involvement of primary hyperparathyroidism and it was managed conservatively.     [Image: see text] Inhibition of the sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) by canagliflozin in type 2 diabetes mellitus results in large between-patient variability in clinical response. To better understand this variability, the positron emission tomography (PET) tracer [(18)F]canagliflozin was developed via a Cu-mediated (18)F-fluorination of its boronic ester precursor with a radiochemical yield of 2.0 ± 1.9% and a purity of >95%. The GMP automated synthesis originated [(18)F]canagliflozin with a yield of 0.5–3% (n = 4) and a purity of >95%. Autoradiography showed [(18)F]canagliflozin binding in human kidney sections containing SGLT2. Since [(18)F]canagliflozin is the isotopologue of the extensively characterized drug canagliflozin and thus shares its toxicological and pharmacological characteristics, it enables its immediate use in patients

    Pharmacokinetic Modeling of [11C]GSK-189254, PET Tracer Targeting H3 Receptors, in Rat Brain

    [Image: see text] The histamine H(3) receptor has been considered as a target for the treatment of various central nervous system diseases. Positron emission tomography (PET) studies with the radiolabeled potent and selective histamine H(3) receptor antagonist [(11)C]GSK-189254 in rodents could be used to examine the mechanisms of action of novel therapeutic drugs or to assess changes of regional H(3) receptor density in animal models of neurodegenerative disease. [(11)C]GSK-189254 was intravenously administered to healthy Wistar rats (n = 10), and a 60 min dynamic PET scan was carried out. Arterial blood samples were obtained during the scan to generate a metabolite-corrected plasma input function. PET data were analyzed using a one-tissue compartment model (1T2k), irreversible (2T3k) or reversible two-tissue compartment models (2T4k), graphical analysis (Logan and Patlak), reference tissue models (SRTM and SRTM2), and standard uptake values (SUVs). The Akaike information criterion and the standard error of the estimated parameters were used to select the most optimal quantification method. This study demonstrated that the 2T4k model with a fixed blood volume fraction and Logan graphical analysis can best describe the kinetics of [(11)C]GSK-189254 in the rat brain. SUV(40–60) and the reference tissue-based measurements DVR(2T4k), BP(ND)(SRTM), and SUV ratio could also be used as a simplified method to estimate H(3) receptor availability in case blood sampling is not feasible
