Nuclidic mass relationships and mass equations (II)

Several explicit numerical solutions of generalized nuclidic mass relationships (partial difference equations) have been derived. These solutions are mass equations with about 230 parameters which reproduce more than 1000 experimental masses with N, Z [greater, double equals] 20 with a standard deviation of about 300 keV. The internal consistency of the solutions and other aspects such as the ability to describe the experimental Coulomb displacement energies are explored. The solutions are compared to the transverse and longitudinal mass equations of Garvey and Kelson and the shell-model mass equations of Liran and Zeldes for their reliability to predict masses of very neutron-rich and proton-rich nuclei.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/22058/1/0000477.pd

    Spectroscopy of Divertor Plasmas

    No full text
The requirements for divertor spectroscopy are treated with respect to instrumentation and observations on present machines. Emphasis is placed on quantitative measurements.of impurity concentrations from the interpretation of spectral line intensities. The possible influence of non-Maxwellian electron distributions on spectral line excitation in the divertor is discussed. Finally the use of spectroscopy for determining plasma temperature, density, and flows is examined

    Electron impact ionisation of C/sup 4+/ and O/sup 6+/

    No full text
Absolute cross-sections for single ionisation of helium-like C/sup 4+/ and O/sup 6+/ by electron impact have been measured for incident electron energy ranging from below the expected metastable state ionisation threshold to 3 keV. A crossed electron-ion beam setup has been used in this experiment. From analysis of the ion time of flight, it is concluded that the signal observed below the ground state ionisation threshold can only be due to the triplet state 2 /sup 3/ /b S/. The importance of the various ionisation processes is discussed for this particular state. The authors present also a calculation of the branching ratio for autoionisation following the electron impact excitation from one of the two metastable states to the doubly excited states of the 2/b l/,2/b l/' configurations. The metastable population has been estimated at 16.3% for C/sup 4+/ and 3.9% for O/sup 6+/.Anglai
