    Moments of Wigner function and Renyi entropies at freeze-out

    Relation between Renyi entropies and moments of the Wigner function, representing the quantum mechanical description of the M-particle semi-inclusive distribution at freeze-out, is investigated. It is shown that in the limit of infinite volume of the system, the classical and quantum descriptions are equivalent. Finite volume corrections are derived and shown to be small for systems encountered in relativistic heavy ion collisions.Comment: 15 pages, one figur

    Observation of Resonant Diffusive Radiation in Random Multilayered Systems

    Diffusive Radiation is a new type of radiation predicted to occur in randomly inhomogeneous media due to the multiple scattering of pseudophotons. This theoretical effect is now observed experimentally. The radiation is generated by the passage of electrons of energy 200KeV-2.2MeV through a random stack of films in the visible light region. The radiation intensity increases resonantly provided the Cherenkov condition is satisfied for the average dielectric constant of the medium. The observed angular dependence and electron resonance energy are in agreement with the theoretical predictions. These observations open a road to application of diffusive radiation in particle detection, astrophysics, soft X-ray generation and etc.. `Comment: 4pages, 4figure

    A study of the nuclear medium influence on transverse momentum of hadrons produced in deep inelastic neutrino scattering

    The influence of nuclear effects on the transverse momentum (pT)(p_T) distributions of neutrinoproduced hadrons is investigated using the data obtained with SKAT propane-freon bubble chamber irradiated in the neutrino beam (with EνE_{\nu} = 3-30 GeV) at Serpukhov accelerator. Dependences of onthekinematicalvariablesofinclusivedeepinelasticscatteringandoftheproducedhadronsaremeasured.Ithasbeenobserved,thatthenucleareffectscauseanenhancementof on the kinematical variables of inclusive deep-inelastic scattering and of the produced hadrons are measured. It has been observed, that the nuclear effects cause an enhancement of of hadrons (more pronounced for the positively charged ones) produced in the target fragmentation region at low invariant mass of the hadronic system (2 <W<< W < 4 GeV) or at low energies transferred to the current quark (2 <ν<9< \nu < 9 GeV). At higher WW or ν\nu, no influence of nuclear effects on is observed. Measurement results are compared with predictions of a simple model, incorporating secondary intranuclear interactions of hadrons (with a formation length extracted from the Lund fragmentation model), which qualitatively reproduces the main features of the data.Comment: 23 pages, 7 figure

    J/psi azimuthal anisotropy relative to the reaction plane in Pb-Pb collisions at 158 GeV per nucleon

    The J/ψ\psi azimuthal distribution relative to the reaction plane has been measured by the NA50 experiment in Pb-Pb collisions at 158 GeV/nucleon. Various physical mechanisms related to charmonium dissociation in the medium created in the heavy ion collision are expected to introduce an anisotropy in the azimuthal distribution of the observed J/ψ\psi mesons at SPS energies. Hence, the measurement of J/ψ\psi elliptic anisotropy, quantified by the Fourier coefficient v2_2 of the J/ψ\psi azimuthal distribution relative to the reaction plane, is an important tool to constrain theoretical models aimed at explaining the anomalous J/ψ\psi suppression observed in Pb-Pb collisions. We present the measured J/ψ\psi yields in different bins of azimuthal angle relative to the reaction plane, as well as the resulting values of the Fourier coefficient v2_{2} as a function of the collision centrality and of the J/ψ\psi transverse momentum. The reaction plane has been estimated from the azimuthal distribution of the neutral transverse energy detected in an electromagnetic calorimeter. The analysis has been performed on a data sample of about 100 000 events, distributed in five centrality or pT_{\rm T} sub-samples. The extracted v2_{2} values are significantly larger than zero for non-central collisions and are seen to increase with pT_{\rm T}.Comment: proceedings of HP08 conference corrected a typo in one equatio

    A new measurement of J/psi suppression in Pb-Pb collisions at 158 GeV per nucleon

    We present a new measurement of J/psi production in Pb-Pb collisions at 158 GeV/nucleon, from the data sample collected in year 2000 by the NA50 Collaboration, under improved experimental conditions with respect to previous years. With the target system placed in vacuum, the setup was better adapted to study, in particular, the most peripheral nuclear collisions with unprecedented accuracy. The analysis of this data sample shows that the (J/psi)/Drell-Yan cross-sections ratio measured in the most peripheral Pb-Pb interactions is in good agreement with the nuclear absorption pattern extrapolated from the studies of proton-nucleus collisions. Furthermore, this new measurement confirms our previous observation that the (J/psi)/Drell-Yan cross-sections ratio departs from the normal nuclear absorption pattern for semi-central Pb-Pb collisions and that this ratio persistently decreases up to the most central collisions.Comment: 19 pages, 10 figures.     The total yields of K^+(892), Sigma^+(1385) and Sigma^0 in neutrino-induced reactions at <E_nu> = 10 GeV

    Using the data obtained with SKAT bubble chamber, the total yields of K+(892)K^+(892), Σ+(1385)\Sigma^+(1385) and Σ0\Sigma^0 are estimated for the first time in neutrino-induced reactions at moderate energies ( = 10.4 GeV). It is shown, that the recently observed \cite{ref1,ref2} enhancement of the K0K^0 and Λ\Lambda yields in νA\nu A interactions (as compared to νN\nu N interactions) is contributed only slightly by the K+(892)K^+(892) and Σ+(1385)\Sigma^+(1385) production, respectively. The decay contribution to the K0K^0 and Λ\Lambda yields is found to be in qualitative agreement with higher energy ( \geq 40 GeV) data. It is shown, that the energy dependence of the K+(892)K^+(892) mean multiplicity in νN\nu N interactions is approximately linear in the range of \approx 10-60 GeV, while that for Σ0\Sigma^0 in νA\nu A interactions (for AA = 20-21) is approximately logarithmic in the range of \approx 10-150 GeV.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure

    Charge Fluctuations in \pi^{+}\rp and \rK^{+}\rp Collisions at 250 GeV/cc

    We report on measurements of event-by-event charge fluctuations in \pi^{+}\rp and \rK^{+}\rp collisions at 250 GeV/cc. The dependence of these fluctuations on the size of the rapidity windows are presented for the first time in the full phase space domain. The corrections for the influence of global charge conservation and leading-particle stopping are tested by the data. The discrepancy due to incomplete correction given by STAR and PHENIX are estimated. The dependence of the fluctuations on the position of the rapidity bin and on the multiplicity at different rapidity windows are also presented.Comment: 4pages, 3figure
