Values for a Successful Career and Life
Successful career and life depends on how well an individual balance them to achieve
maximum satisfaction in life. The values which an individual associate to career/ life
based on their judgment help them to choose the appropriate careers or to involve in
hobbies or other activities. The value here means the things that you believe as
important in the way you live and work. We are often focused on one area of life at
the expense of another. We are more successful when we are in balance with every
area of lifelike career, family, friends, finance, leisure, health and spirituality. Work
life balance brings satisfaction and peace of mind to an individual.
Work-life balance is particularly important for women due to the multiple
responsibilities they need to handle in everyday life. Women are often blessed with
the inherent abilities to perform multiple tasks at a time when compared to men.
These qualities might have either achieved during the course of life due to necessity
or as an inherent ability. Maintaining work life balance is not an easy job. But heart
of balancing can be learned. Sometimes we may have work life conflicts. In extreme
cases it becomes necessary to sacrifice one for the other. In these cases choosing the
priorities through wise decisions becomes important

Economic performance of cage fish farming
Mariculture has the potential to augment production and incomes
through coastal as well as open sea farming. The global aquaculture
production increased by about 25 times in the last 30 years when
compared to only seven times increase in capture fisheries
production during the corresponding period. Mariculture systems
include in-shore and off-shore and maintain a constant high saline
water conditions. In-shore mariculture systems include clams,
oysters and other molluscs, which are wild-caught or hatcheryreared
seed grown on the sea floor or on suspended nets, ropes, or
other structures. Off-shore mariculture refers to large intensive
fisheries in off-shore fish pens
Economic Feasibility and Resource Use Efficiency of Coastal Cage Fish Farming in Kerala
Fish farming in open water cages is a recently introduced technology in India. The successful cage farming demonstrations in the open sea led to its popularisation in the coastal waters in the country. The economic viability of cage fish farming was analysed based on primary data collected from 60 farm units in Kerala state in the South west coast of India. Asian seabass, pearlspot, tilpaia, redsnappers and caranx were the major species cultured in the study area. The average size of a farm unit was 115 m3 with a stocking density of 32 fishes per m3. The gross revenue and average cost were ` 8584 and ` 4331 respectively per m3 of farm area. The BenefitтАУcost ratio and operating ratios were 2.02 and 0.42 respectively indicating cage farming as an economically viable farming technology. Resource use efficiency analysis indicated that stocking density and quantity of feed used had positive and significant influence on fish production and economic efficiency could be improved by increasing the use of these inputs
Socio-economic impact assessment of monsoon trawl ban on marine fisheries sector of Kerala, India
Considering monsoon trawl ban as one of the important regulatory measures
for resource conservation, in Kerala State an analysis was conducted to study
the socio-economic impact of trawl ban to marine fisheries sector. Growth and
instability in landings in the pre and post ban periods were analysed and the
results showed the marine fish landings at a stabilised state with a positive
growth rate of 0.108 % and a lower instability index of 11.4 in the post ban
period. Analysis of the characteristics of ring seine fishery during ban period
showed that nearly 10% of the trawl workers were employed in the ring seine
units. The overall employment loss to fishing, fishing related and non-fishing
activities during the ban period was assessed and policy suggestions given
for alternate employment options for mechanised fisherfolk
Inflation in Marine Fish Price in India: Analysis Using Ex- Vessel Price Indices
Inflation in general and food inflation in
particular greatly affects the poor as they spend a large share
of their income on food. Analysis of food inflation helps to
develop strategies for improving the supply- demand
situation. The inflation in marine fish prices were analyzed
by developing an aggregate marine fish price index based on
the ex-vessel prices of 22 marine fish groups for the period
1995-2014. The growth in landings and value of marine fish
in India for the period 1995 to 2014 was also analyzed using
compound annual growth rates. The aggregate price index
showed the highest increase during 2005-2014 period
(129.42%) when compared to 1995-2004 period (106.16%).
The compound annual growth rate of marine fish landings
was 0.68 % during 1995-2004 period and 5.43 % during
2005-2014 period. The gross value of marine fish deflated
based on wholesale price indices (WPI) showed that the
growth in real values of marine fish was higher during 2005-
2014 period when compared to 1995-2004 period
Adoption of Small Scale Coastal Cage Fish Farming in the Southwest Coast of India: Opportunities and Challenges
Cage fish farming is an emerging aquaculture technology in India. It is a
low impact farming practice with high economic returns. ICAR-CMFRI in
India had developed cost effective technologies for cage farming and
popularised the technology through front line demonstrations in the marine
and coastal waters in the country. We analysed the opportunities and
constraints of coastal cage fish farming in Kerala state, in the south west
coast of India. Economic indicators of selected farms revealed that cage
farming is an economic viable technology in the coastal waters earning an
average net profit of USD3,914 and internal rate of return (IRR) of 68%.
Coastal water pollution, inadequate financial capital, climate change
impacts, high feed cost and lack of insurance facilities were reported as the
major constraints in cage fish farming. The study indicated that cage fish
farming has great potential for augmenting fish production and coastal
livelihoods and emphasized the need for stringent regulations for mitigating
coastal water pollution, institutional linkages for financial inclusion and
insurance facilities for upscaling the technology
Techno-economic analysis of production and marketing of marine by-products in India
Marine by-products coming under the ancillary products group found
many applications in pharmaceutical and industrial sectors. Although many
of these products are fetching very high price at the export market, -adequate
statistics regarding their current production, marketing and utilisation is
lacking. The present analysis deals with the production potential, level of
exploitation, uses, export growth rate and potential for the future of some
of these marine by-products
