The EU’s strategy towards incorporating sustainability considerations into the financial regulatory framework: recent developments and future prospects

Η παρούσα μελέτη στοχεύει στην παροχή μιας συνοπτικής αλλά ολοκληρωμένης επισκόπησης των μέτρων που ελήφθησαν σε παγκόσμιο αλλά κυρίως σε ευρωπαϊκό επίπεδο, προκειμένου να ενσωματωθούν στοιχεία βιωσιμότητας στο ρυθμιστικό πλαίσιο του χρηματοπιστωτικού συστήματος. Διαρθρώνεται σε τρία κεφάλαια. Το Κεφάλαιο Α ασχολείται με τα θεωρητικά θεμέλια και τις ιστορικές ρίζες των εννοιών της βιωσιμότητας και της βιώσιμης ανάπτυξης, ενώ επιχειρεί επίσης να αναδείξει την οικονομική προσέγγιση της βιωσιμότητας και τον ρόλο του χρηματοπιστωτικού συστήματος στη διοχέτευση κεφαλαίων προς βιώσιμα έργα. Το πρώτο κεφάλαιο εστιάζει επίσης στις πρωτοβουλίες που ανέλαβε η διεθνής κοινότητα για την ευθυγράμμιση του χρηματοπιστωτικού τομέα με τη βιώσιμη ανάπτυξη. Το Κεφάλαιο Β εξετάζει λεπτομερώς την ευρωπαϊκή στρατηγική για τη βιώσιμη χρηματοδότηση, η οποία αποσκοπεί στην προώθηση της πράσινης χρηματοδότησης και της βιώσιμης ανάπτυξης στην ΕΕ. Τέλος, το Κεφάλαιο Γ παρουσιάζει συγκεκριμένες νομικές πράξεις που ψηφίστηκαν πρόσφατα από την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση για την εφαρμογή του Σχεδίου Δράσης της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής του 2018 για τη Xρηματοδότηση της Aειφόρου Aνάπτυξης και περιγράφει εν συντομία ορισμένα προτεινόμενα μέτρα που αναμένεται να υιοθετηθούν από την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση στο εγγύς μέλλον.The present study aims at providing a concise but comprehensive overview of the measures taken both at the global and European Union level in order to integrate sustainability considerations into the financial regulatory framework. It is structured into three Chapters. Chapter A deals with the theoretical foundations and the historical roots of the concepts of sustainability and sustainable development, while also attempting to shed some light on the economic approach to sustainability and on the role of the financial system in channeling funds towards sustainable projects. The first Chapter also presents the initiatives undertaken by the international community to align the financial sector with sustainable development. Chapter B discusses in detail the European strategy on sustainable finance, which aims to foster green finance and promote sustainable growth in the EU. Lastly, Chapter C presents specific legal acts adopted recently by the European Union to implement the European Commission’s 2018 Action Plan on Financing Sustainable Growth and briefly describes some proposed measures expected to be enacted by the European Union in the near future

Healthy Eating and Active Living in North Portland: Asset Mapping with G.I.S.

Making community development as democratic as possible has long been a challenge for urban planners and municipalities alike. A number of obstacles stand in the way of greater community participation in the planning process and consequently communities who are best served by their design. Visual Preference Surveys (VPS) are a tool planners can use to increase participation in the design process within the communities they serve. This can result in community plans that more accurately reflect the wants or needs of its members. Relying heavily on image driven content, VPS offers communities a straightforward methodology that asks participants to rate paired images of development options. This document is a review of some of the literature focused on the uses of VPS. Included is an explanation of VPS, the advantages and challenges it offers, general case studies, and the potential for using VPS to specifically address issues related to Healthy Eating/Active Living
