This study aims at evaluating curricula of private high schools in line with opinions of teachers working at the related high schools, and identifying any related problems. Screening model is used as a quantitative research method in the study. The "element-based curriculum evaluation model" is taken as basis for evaluation of the curricula. 163 teachers working at private high schools participated in the study. The data were obtained through the survey titled "evaluation of curricula in the context of curricular elements", which was developed by researcher. According to the findings obtained from the research, it was found out that the teachers who participated in the study took part in all curricular elements (achievements, content, conditions of learning and evaluation) at average level. The difference between average group scores of the participant teachers regarding achievement, content and conditions of learning by the variables of gender, years of service and learning area was found statistically insignificant. This study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the curricula that constitute the basis of education provision at high schools in Turkey from the perspective of the teachers involved. A descriptive survey model, a quantitative research method was employed in this study. An item-based curriculum evaluation model was employed as part of the evaluation process. The data for the study were obtained from the 199 participant teachers via an “evaluation questionnaire of the high school curriculum. This questionnaire was designed after careful consideration of the key elements of the curriculum. The evaluations submitted by teachers with regard to the items contained within the survey were carefully interpreted. This followed the clear identification of the percentages, frequencies and averages involved. According to the findings obtained from the study, the opinions of teachers concerning the components of the High School Teaching Program when taken as a whole were found to be at an average level. As concerns all elements of the program, teachers were found to most closely agree with those statements within the “(I) partly disagree”category. Results indicated a higher percentage of responses that corresponded with the “definitely disagree” or “disagree” categories than for the “definitely agree” or “agree” categories

Objective:This study was planned as a descriptive study with the aim of investigation of mobilization times of patients after surgery. Methods:Population of the study consisted of patients (n=131) who stay in the general surgery clinic, had an operation at one university hospital and volunteered to participate in the research. Data were collected between27 January-30 June 2014.The data were collected by face to face meetings using a questionnaire developed by researchers. The questionnaire was applied to the patients when they firstly walked after surgery and mobilization times were evaluated in the first 72 hours after surgery. Data analysis was performed using the statistics program SPSS 20 packaged software. Results: It was observed that the mean age of patients was 50.61 ± 17.12 and 61.8 % of them were female. It was found that 66.4%of the patients had day surgery. It was determined that 84.7 %of the patients firstly walked in the first 24 hours, 12.2 % of them walked in the range of 24-48 hours, 0.8 %of them walked in the range of 48-72 hours and 2.3% of them didn’t walk in the range of 0-72 hours after surgery. Conclusions: Importance of early mobilization has been emphasized in Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) and preventing circulatory problems for many years. It was concluded that the majority of patients walked in the first 24 hours, in the clinical practices with this research

Carcinoma of the Oral Tongue: A Case Series Analysis of Prognostic Factors and Surgical Outcomes

Purpose: To identify factors affecting the clinical course and survival of patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue. Materials and Methods: One hundred thirty-eight patients who were treated with surgical excision of primary tongue cancer and neck dissection were analyzed retrospectively. The study had a median follow-up period of 23 months. Univariate and multivariate statistical analyses for prognostic risk factors were performed using the Cox regression method. Survival curves were processed with the Kaplan-Meier method. Results: The 138 patients (73 male, 65 female) had a median age of 60 years. The 5-year overall, disease-specific, and relapse-free survival rates were 81%, 73%, and 71%, respectively. Tumor thickness greater than 8 mm was the only independent prognostic factor indicating a poor prognosis in overall survival (P = .049). Presence of involved lymph nodes indicated a tendency toward a poorer prognosis in disease-specific survival (P = .026) and relapse-free survival (P = .043). Conclusions: The present findings indicated that tumor thickness greater than 8 mm and lymph node metastasis were independent predictors of worse survival in patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue. Because similar regional recurrence rates were observed in selective and radical neck dissections, supraomohyoid neck dissection is supported as a primary treatment for patients with clinical N0 tumor
