Declive del Sindicalismo Británico: Un Enfoque Institucionalista

    Get PDF

Variability of the Motor Behavior during Continued Practice of the Same Motor Game: A Preliminary Study

Motor behavior assessment during games could help physical education teachers and team coaches to design effective and efficient motor interventions. This study aimed to assess the variability of the physical and behavioral responses during continued practice of the game tail tag with a ball. Sixteen Spanish youth soccer players from an under-14 team played tail tag, with a ball, during four sessions (5 repetitions of 1 min per session). Physical (i.e., Total Distance (TD) and PlayerLoad (PL)) and behavioral (i.e., Surface Area (SA) and change in the Geometrical Centre position (cGCp)) dimensions were assessed with a local positioning system. The mean of the five series of each session was considered for further statistical analysis. The main finding was that the external load decreased (d = small − large) and the use of space varied during the continued practice of tail tag. Initially, SA increased substantially (d = large) and cGCp decreased slightly (d = small), and then both variables tended to stabilize. This suggests that after several repetitions of the same motor game, physical education teachers and team sports coaches should use this again later, modifying this or proposing new motor games where players respond to these activities that consist in greater uncertainty than to well-known motor games. The authors gratefully acknowledge the support of a Spanish government subproject Integration ways between qualitative and quantitative data, multiple case development, and synthesis review as main axis for an innovative future in physical activity and sports research [PGC2018-098742-B-C31] (Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades, Programa Estatal de Generación de Conocimiento y Fortalecimiento Científico y Tecnológico del Sistema I + D + i), that is part of the coordinated project New approach of research in physical activity and sport from mixed methods perspective (NARPAS_MM) [SPGC201800X098742CV0]

Condition monitoring of wind turbine pitch controller: A maintenance approach

    Get PDF
With the increase of wind power capacity worldwide, researchers are focusing their attention on the operation and maintenance of wind turbines. A proper pitch controller must be designed to extend the life cycle of a wind turbine’s blades and tower. The pitch control system has two primaries, but conflicting, objectives: to maximize the wind energy captured and converted into electrical energy and to minimize fatigue and mechanical load. Four metrics have been proposed to balance these two objectives. Also, diverse pitch controller strategies are proposed in this paper to evaluate these objectives. This paper proposes a novel metrics approach to achieve the conflicting objectives with a maintenance focus. It uses a 100 kW wind turbine as a case study to simulate the proposed pitch control strategies and evaluate with the metrics proposed. The results are shown in two tables due to two different wind models are used

    Harold Pinter: the ultimate realist

    Get PDF
22 p. -- Bibliogr.: p. 21-22Harold Pinter’s 'The Birthday Party' and 'The Room' have very frequently been read as absurdist plays, being Martin Esslin’s 'The Theatre of the Absurd' the reference work for such interpretation. Nonetheless, the aforementioned plays have scarcely been analysed from the point of view of the realist literary current. Attempting to cover such gap, this article provides an interpretation of 'The Birthday Party' and 'The Room' as realist plays, revealing the early Pinter as the ultimate realist playwright. By drawing on evidence from the text and reliable literary criticism on the matter, the following lines offer an analysis of two crucial elements of Pinteresque early oeuvre that have been frequently tackled, namely the communication between characters and the lack of verification, showing that these are deeply committed to represent real life. Furthermore, the text explores how the political element is expressed in these two plays, inferring, by its non-didactic nature, that Pinter seeks to illustrate real life without interfering on it. As a result, the complete analysis leads to fulfil the premises of the thesis

Reviewing and Discussing Graph Reduction in Edge Computing Context

    Get PDF
Much effort has been devoted to transferring efficiently different machine-learning algorithms, and especially deep neural networks, to edge devices in order to fulfill, among others, real-time, storage and energy-consumption issues. The limited resources of edge devices and the necessity for energy saving to lengthen the durability of their batteries, has encouraged an interesting trend in reducing neural networks and graphs, while keeping their predictability almost untouched. In this work, an alternative to the latest techniques for finding these reductions in networks size is proposed, seeking to figure out a simplistic way to shrink networks while maintaining, as far as possible, their predictability testing on well-known datasets

Involvement of ERK1/2, p38 and PI3K in megakaryocytic differentiation of K562 cells

22 p.-7 fig.Megakaryocytic differentiation of myelogenous leukemia cell lines induced by a number of chemical compounds mimics, in part, the physiological process that takes place in the bone marrow in response to a variety of stimuli. We have investigated the involvement of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) [extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase (ERK1/2) and p38] and phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) signaling pathways in the differentiated phenotypes of K562 cells promoted by phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate, staurosporine (STA), and the p38 MAPK inhibitor SB202190. In our experimental conditions, only STA-treated cells showed the phenotype of mature megakaryocytes (MKs) including GPIbα expression, DNA endoreduplication, and formation of platelet-like structures. We provide evidence supporting that basal activity, but not sustained activation, of ERK1/2 is required for expression of MK surface markers. Moreover, ERK1/2 signaling is not involved in cell endomitosis. The PI3K pathway exerts dual regulatory effects on K562 cell differentiation: it is intimately connected with ERK1/2 cascade to stimulate expression of surface markers and it is also necessary, but not sufficient, for polyploidization. Finally, apoptosis and megakaryocytic differentiation exhibit different sensitivity to p38 down-regulation: it is required for expression of early specific markers but is not involved in cell apoptosis. The present work with K562 cells provides new insights into the molecular mechanisms regulating MK differentiation. The results indicate that a precise orchestration of signals, including ERK1/2 and p38 MAPKs as well as PI3K pathway, is necessary for acquisition of features of mature MKs.This work was supported by grants from the Dirección General de Investigación del Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia (BMC2003-01409 and BFU2006-00914).
