Determining Optimal Player Position, Distance, and Scale from a Point of Interest on a Terrain

In a three-dimensional virtual world that is presented as part of a virtual reality environment, a player is teleported from one location displaying a point of interest to a new location displaying a new point of interest. When positioning the player at the location within the three-dimensional virtual world displaying the new point of interest, a virtual reality application determines a player viewing position at the location in order for the player to view the point of interest in a consistent and optimized fashion. The determination made by the virtual reality application, comprehending factors of scale, altitude, and direction, provides the player with a view that is comfortable and makes the point of interest easily recognizable

Language of lies:Urgent issues and prospects in verbal lie detection research

Since its introduction into the field of deception detection, the verbal channel has become a rapidly growing area of research. The basic assumption is that liars differ from truth tellers in their verbal behaviour, making it possible to classify them by inspecting their verbal accounts. However, as noted in conferences and in private communication between researchers, the field of verbal lie detection faces several challenges that merit focused attention. The first author therefore proposed a workshop with the mission of promoting solutions for urgent issues in the field. Nine researchers and three practitioners with experience in credibility assessments gathered for 3 days of discussion at Bar‐Ilan University (Israel) in the first international verbal lie detection workshop. The primary session of the workshop took place the morning of the first day. In this session, each of the participants had up to 10 min to deliver a brief message, using just one slide. Researchers were asked to answer the question: ‘In your view, what is the most urgent, unsolved question/issue in verbal lie detection?’ Similarly, practitioners were asked: ‘As a practitioner, what question/issue do you wish verbal lie detection research would address?’ The issues raised served as the basis for the discussions that were held throughout the workshop. The current paper first presents the urgent, unsolved issues raised by the workshop group members in the main session, followed by a message to researchers in the field, designed to deliver the insights, decisions, and conclusions resulting from the discussions

Neisseria meningitidis and cytomegalovirus simultaneous detection in the filmarray meningitis/encephalitis panel and its clinical relevance

A BioFire FilmArray Meningitis/Encephalitis test was performed on a 7-month old child suspected for bacterial meningitis. Two pathogens were detected, Neisseria meningitidis and cytomegalovirus (CMV). We verified the filmarray meningitis/encephalitis test by pan-bacterial assay to test for Neisseria meningitidis and CMV viral load test for the CMV detection. Pan-bacterial confirmed presence of N. meningitidis, but CMV was not detected by the CMV viral load test. Together with the manifestations of high fever, vomiting, diffuse petechial rash, bulging fontanel, and leukocytosis, it is a clear case of meningococcal meningitis, while CMV detection had no clinical relevance

Sustainability is one of the paradigms that characterize the 21st century and, as such, it must be incorporated into the management of organizations. Peter Drucker argued that “the old forms of business management did not pay attention to people or values, on the contrary, they have underestimated and annulled them, thereby weakening the possibilities of development against their own economic objectives” (Cleri, 2007, p.187). This article aims to contribute to the revision of these old ways of management from the reflection on the following premise: a sustainable organization is a culturally responsible one. Nowadays, the necessary tools to take on the challenge of managing sustainable organizations are available and, in this sense, the Sustainable Management Model (Spanish acronym: MAS) and the Organizational Sustainability Assessment Model (Spanish acronym: MESO) are provided, proposing, in both cases, an explanatory reformulation of its original enunciations. Organizations must recognize their role as members of society, incorporating management modalities that enable an ethical and responsible behavior, with sustainable commitment.Facultad de Ciencias Económica
