Shorted Operators Relative to a Partial Order in a Regular Ring

In this paper, the explicit form of maximal elements, known as shorted operators, in a subring of a von Neumann regular ring has been obtained. As an application of the main theorem, the unique shorted operator (of electrical circuits) which was introduced by Anderson-Trapp has been derived.Comment: There was a small mistake in the published version which has been corrected her

Duality for a fractional variational formulation using η\eta -approximated method

Get PDF
summary:The present article explores the way η\eta-approximated method is applied to substantiate duality results for the fractional variational problems under invexity. η\eta-approximated dual pair is engineered and a careful study of the original dual pair has been done to establish the duality results for original problems. Moreover, an appropriate example is constructed based on which we can validate the established dual statements. The paper includes several recent results as special cases

Antinociceptive effects of purified Curcuma longa in mice

Background: Since ancient times Curcuma longa is said to have antinociceptive effects in literature. Methods: It was a quantitative experimental study done in the laboratory setting of the department of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, BP Koirala Institute of Medical Sciences, Dharan, Nepal (BPKIHS). Hot plate test, Tail flick test and Writhing test were used for evaluating the antinociceptive effects. Animals were divided into five groups of six each, group I as control, group II as standard control whereas groups III, IV and V as test groups (three doses). Control and the three test drug doses were given for 21 days. Data were presented as mean ±Standard Error of Mean. Statistical differences between the test drug and control groups as well as within the test drug groups were calculated using Mann-Whitney U test. A probability level less than 0.05 (p < 0.05) was considered significant. Results: Significant effects in comparison to vehicle were observed in all the three anti nociceptive test models at 200mg /kg test dose of aqueous extract of purified Curcuma longa (CL). No significant effect as compared to vehicle was observed at 50mg/kg and 100 mg/kg test doses of CL.Conclusions: This study showed that CL possesses antinociceptive effect. The mechanism(s) and active principle(s) behind the effects of CL could not be established

Corticomuscular co-activation based hybrid brain-computer interface for motor recovery monitoring

The effect of corticomuscular coactivation based hybrid brain-computer interface (h-BCI) on post-stroke neurorehabilitation has not been explored yet. A major challenge in this area is to find an appropriate corticomuscular feature which can not only drive an h-BCI but also serve as a biomarker for motor recovery monitoring. Our previous study established the feasibility of a new method of measuring corticomuscular co-activation called correlation of band-limited power time-courses (CBPT) of EEG and EMG signals, outperforming the traditional EEG-EMG coherence in terms of accurately controlling a robotic hand exoskeleton device by the stroke patients. In this paper, we have evaluated the neurophysiological significance of CBPT for motor recovery monitoring by conducting a 5-week long longitudinal pilot trial on 4 chronic hemiparetic stroke patients. Results show that the CBPT variations correlated significantly (p-value< 0.05) with the dynamic changes in motor outcome measures during the therapy for all the patients. As the bandpower based biomarkers are popular in literature, a comparison with such biomarkers has also been made to cross-verify whether the changes in CBPT are indeed neurophysiological. Thus the study concludes that CBPT can serve as a biomarker for motor recovery monitoring while serving as a corticomuscular co-activation feature for h-BCI based neurorehabilitation. Despite an observed significant positive change between pre- and post-intervention motor outcomes, the question of the clinical effectiveness of CBPT is subject to further controlled trial on a larger cohort

Ultra Wide Band Antenna with Defected Ground Plane and Microstrip Line Fed for Wi-Fi/Wi-Max/DCS/5G/Satellite Communications

In this chapter, ultra wide band angular ring antenna has been proposed for wireless applications. It has been observed that antenna resonate from 2.9 to 13.1 GHz which has 10.2 GHz bandwidth. Further, it is observed that antenna has nearly omni-directional radiation pattern for E and H-plane at 3.5, 5.8, and 8.5 GHz. The theoretical analysis of the proposed has been done using circuit theory analysis. It was also found using simulation that antenna has good input and output response of 0.2 ns. Proposed antenna measured, simulated, and theoretical results matches for antenna characteristics, i.e., reflection coefficient and radiation pattern. Bandwidth of antenna lies between 2.9 and 13.1 GHz, so this antenna is suitable for Wi-Fi, Wi-Max, digital communication system (DCS), satellite communication, and 5G applications

This study describes the length-weight relation (LWR) of small indigenous fish Pethia ticto from Gomti River, Aamghat, Haliyapur, Sultanpur district 260 29N and 810 44E, 751m (msl) Uttar Pradesh, India. A total of 306 specimens were caught by random sampling method using traditional fishing gear as gillnet, cast net and dragnet of various mesh sizes from June 2016 to May 2017, once in a month. Total Length (mm) was measured from anteriormost part of the snout to the posterior-most part of the caudal fin and body weight (g) were taken by digital electronic balance. The analysis of data shows that the allometric coefficient is close to isometric value (3.0). Allometric growth indicates a more rotund population of fish when the values of growth coefficient are higher than 3.0 (b>3). If the value of growth coefficient is less than 3.0, the population of fish is known to be less rotund. Isometric growth indicates that the shape of fish does not change as it grows (b=3). The coefficient of determination (R2 ) was also found significant (=0.97). Fulton’s condition factor further supports the results obtained ranged from 1.041 to 1.660 shows the degree of well being of a fish. This study is helpful in providing relevant information in the assessment of stock and estimation of the fish condition about its environmen
